20 years of European Bike Week at Lake Faaker See
The official part of Harley-Davidson European Bike Week kicked off on Tuesday at Lake Faaker See.
This year, Harley-Davidson is celebrating the 20th anniversary of European Bike Week. Looking back over the years, a lot has happened. Harleywood was created for the 95th anniversary when Harley-Davidson was looking for a place to celebrate in Europe. At that time, Peter Prägant (who passed away in 2015) worked with the director of the tourist office and others to bring the Harley meeting to Lake Faaker See. It wasn't easy, but they succeeded.
Since then, Bike Week has become an integral part of the Carinthia region. Fans of the Harley-Davidson brand travel from all over the world to Lake Faaker See to see this unique event.
Every year, around 100,000 bikers flock to the region, which no one would ever have expected when the event first started. The bikes now travel as far as Velden, but the heart of the event is still Harley Village in Faak am See.
We received some great souvenir photos from our Facebook Harley community. The highlight is probably the 1998 admission ticket that Jochen Ra sent us, which is signed by Nancy & Willie G. Davidson themselves.
Martin Schmieder also found some from 1998. Many thanks to Martin Schneider, Melanie Kors, Andrea Stevanella, Andreas Seyffart, Joe Black, Guenter Wendler, Gerd-Ursula Kniest, and others for sharing!
Further information about Peter Prägant can be found at here in our article.
