ABS now standard on all VRSC and Touring models

The road is wet. Suddenly an unexpected obstacle appears. The moment of shock combined with too hesitant braking can be just as noticeable as the implementation of the motto “full on the iron”: If you overbrake your front wheel, you inevitably risk falling. The anti-lock braking system can help by preventing the wheels from locking when braking hard or when braking on non-grip surfaces. “Full in the iron” loses its fear and the rider retains control of the bike.

Harley-Davidson is therefore offering numerous models that were previously optionally available with an anti-lock braking system with ABS as standard from the 2009 model year. The system works hand in hand with a high-performance braking system from Brembo. In the control range, this becomes noticeable through a slight pulsation on the brake lever - the driver becomes aware of the lack of traction. In contrast to various other anti-lock braking systems in the motorcycle sector, the Harley-Davidson ABS is not an integrated system, so the driver can still regulate the front wheel brake independently of the rear wheel brake.

Last but not least, great care was taken in the design of all ABS components so that the system could be installed discreetly and almost invisibly in the Harley-Davidson models. The speed sensor was integrated into the wheel bearings and the ABS module found a place hidden from the eye. On the VRSC models, for example, it is located above the radiator.

ABS will now be available ex works on all VRSC models – the V-Rod, Night Rod Special and the new V-Rod Muscle. In addition, all touring models – the Road King, Road King Classic, Street Glide, Electra Glide Standard and Ultra Classic Electra Glide – now have ABS brakes as standard.
