Attentive witness prevents Harley theft
Cologne (ots) – Late on Friday evening (August 25), an alert witness (23) in Ehrenfeld allegedly prevented the theft of a Harley-Davidson.
She noticed three unfamiliar men (19, 20, 20) in an underground parking garage and called the police via „110.“ Plainclothes officers apprehended the trio, who were „armed“ with burglary tools, in the courtyard of the residential building.
At around 11 p.m., the Dutchmen emerged from the garage exit on Simrockstraße. One of the three was holding a screwdriver. The officers found two open-end wrenches and a special tool for picking locks on the other two.
The men's VW Golf, registered in the Netherlands, contained two motorcycle helmets and a motorcycle suit. A roller door leading to the underground garage had obviously been forced open; the black motorcycle was standing behind it in „starting position.“.
Investigators believe that the alert resident's quick action probably prevented the theft of the Harley. One of the 20-year-olds had already been investigated in Düren in 2015 for a similar case. (cs)
