BATTLE OF THE KINGS - COMPETITION

THE HARLEY-DAVIDSON® DEALERSHIPS ARE GETTING READY FOR THE SECOND ROUND OF THE

„BATTLE OF THE KINGS“ COMPETITION 2016

OXFORD (20.01.2016) - The Motor Company has launched the second „Battle of the Kings“ customizing contest has been launched. Once again, Harley-Davidson dealers from Europe, the Middle East and Africa will compete against each other for the title of top customizer.

The new „Battle of the Kings“ contest, The competition, which calls for originality and creativity, ends in June 2016. Custom King in each individual market and in phase 2, the grand final, the national champions will compete for the coveted trophy. This final will once again take place at „Wheels and Waves“, probably the most influential custom lifestyle event on our continent, which will be held in Biarritz, France, in June 2016.

„We were delighted with the success of the first „Battle of the Kings“-contest last year,“ explains Mike Johnstone, Director Marketing Operations, Harley-Davidson Europe, Middle East and Africa. „More than 150 dealers presented their customization projects and over 30,000 participants voted online. With our entire dealer network behind this competition, we hope to top the 2016 results and have even more custom bikes in the competition. Customizing has always been a big topic at Harley-Davidson, and the numerous custom parts that we offer in our original accessories program make the many experts in our dealerships ideal for participating in this contest.“

The basis for the custom projects this time is the Iron 883™, which, like countless of its classic ancestors, is reduced to the essentials. It belongs to the Sportster® model family, whose ancestor Harley-Davidson offered in 1957 and which is currently enjoying great popularity among young customizers. The bike has undergone extensive technical and visual updates for the 2016 model year. The latest generation is powered by the air-cooled Evolution Sportster V2 engine with a displacement of 883 cubic centimetres. Its current look is inspired by the rugged style of the bobbers that were built in backyards and private garages decades ago.

Harley-Davidson counts the Iron 883 among its „Dark Custom“-line, i.e. those machines that have been stripped of all superfluous parts in a matt or glossy black vintage look and convey a contemporary underground feeling. The Dark Custom bikes also score points with attractive prices that make it easy for fans to enter the world of Harley-Davidson. To underline the fact that you don't need a big wallet to further customize a Dark Custom Bike, the budget for the conversion measures in the Battle of the Kings Custom Contest is also strictly limited.

In March and April 2016, Harley-Davidson will present the custom projects of participating dealers to fans in all participating countries on the website. An online vote and a jury will decide on the national winners. These will be presented at the „Wheels & Waves“ festival in Biarritz in June, where a jury will select the 2016 Custom King of the Year.
