The Dyna Street Bob, one of the most popular Harley models, is 10 years old

(Neu-Isenburg, March 14, 2016) In 1971, the year 2 after “Easy Rider”, the world was bathed in orange, Ilja Richter turned off the lights and turned on the spotlight for the first time, kids dreamed of the Bonanza bike and adults walked miles for a Camel filter. This year, the ancestor of today's Harley-Davidson Dyna models came onto the market: the FX Super Glide. With this synthesis of the front end of the Sportster and the engine and frame of the Big Twins, the Motor Company laid the foundation for “Factory Customizing”, the custom bike ex works, 45 years ago. In the following decade, the FX series gave rise to the FXR family (“R” for “rubber mounted”) - the first types in which a new frame and a short time later also the new Evolution motor with vibration-isolated bearings were used. And 25 years ago, the “Sturgis” made its debut, the first model to have the letter suffix “D” in the model abbreviation instead of the “R”, which stands for “Dyna” or “Dynamic” and refers to a completely redesigned chassis. The Dyna model family has now been extensively revised and refined several times.
For many people, the quintessence of the series is the Street Bob, which has been driving asphalt around the world for a decade. Year after year, the attractively priced entry-level model in Harley's “Big Twin” world has been one of the bestsellers in the US manufacturer's model range since then - with a permanent subscription to one of the top five most sought-after Harleys in this country. In total, around 9,600 machines of this type roll on German roads.
No wonder, because according to the pure doctrine, the Street Bob dispenses with everything that is superfluous. Its low-positioned solo seat and the cool, half-height Ape Hanger handlebars position it as a puristic chopper. In its stable chassis, a Twin Cam engine with currently 1690 cubic centimeters provides 130 Newton meters of pressure from the lower speed range. The opposite pole is provided by powerful ABS brakes. In addition to the customers, the press was also always full of praise for the Street Bob. Their air-cooled V2 was described as a “guarantor for a good mood” and “Harley-like well-being”, “power and torque were pleasing” and the sound was described as “almost magical”: “Something like this conjures up a sunny face even in constant rain.” This was also confirmed by the chassis developers the professional testers “have a fine hand”: “Despite all prejudices, there can even be winding, narrow country roads.”
Just in time for the milestone birthday, an individualized version of the Street Bob complements the model range: the Street Bob Special, a factory custom bike that already comes with some of the original accessories most popular with Street Bob customers: forward footrests and a slim seat for two. There are also elegant cast-spoke wheels and flat, wide handlebars.
