The largest European Harley-Davidson event starts on September 4th at Lake Faak in Austria; over 100,000 visitors are expected from all over Europe and the world.
The weather forecast predicts that things will get better again from Wednesday, but until Tuesday we have to accept that there could be some rain.
The police show a strong presence
What will change this year is that the police will have an increased presence in the run-up to the event. This is due to the fact that in the past some Harleys were stolen at the beginning of the event, which we now want to put a stop to. However, we can assume that vehicle inspections will also be expanded a little more this year; new technology will be used to measure the volume and speed of the bikers. In addition, video surveillance is being expanded; the entire festival area is under video surveillance.
The police focus on the campsites and motorcycle parking spaces in order to prevent thefts. In the past, tent slashers have repeatedly occurred, especially on the campsites, even though someone was in the tent, theft was quickly carried out. The increased police presence serves for security, but also for control; some people will be allowed to pay again and that can be expensive in Austria.
Accommodations around Lake Faaker See
Accommodation is still available, especially in the surrounding area you can still find cheap accommodation, Carinthia generally has a large selection of small guesthouses, I have generally always had very good experiences here.
From Tuesday to Sunday, the road around Lake Faaker See is once again a one-way street and cars can only drive there with a special permit or as residents of the campsites.
Between 9 a.m. and 4 a.m. from Tuesday to Sunday morning there is a shuttle service around Lake Faaker See and sometimes the neighboring villages are also served, just pay attention to the bus display, otherwise you will quickly end up in Villach.
The Harley Davidson Parade
The parade through the Villach region starts on Saturday at noon (line-up from 10:00 a.m. on Rosental Straße from Ratnitz). The parade is not brand-specific and anyone can take part with their bike. Of course, you are required to wear a helmet and, if possible, do not change lanes or overtake.
The music program
European Bike Week this year despite the company's 115th anniversary , but the music program is still pretty good, if you want to party until the early hours There are plenty of opportunities throughout the area, and there has never been a lack of entertainment here.
Test drives and new models
The real stars of the event are the Harleys. Thousands of them come to the event in Austria. We will once again see many beautiful machines. If you are interested in a new Harley-Davidson, you can take part in the free test rides or just take a look the big EXPO exhibition next to the main stage in the Harley Village, whether there is anything you like from the new 2019 models. Test seats included, the driving simulator will also be on site again.
Take beautiful tours in the surrounding area
What's really special about Lake Faaker See is the beautiful surroundings, it's ideal for cruising. If you don't know your way around or would like to ride in a community, you can take part in one of the guided tours on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. The Alpe Adria Chapter has planned three beautiful day tours, which will be worth it. You can find the chapter stand in the large square in the village, where the indoor Harley parking lot is.
If you want to go on the tour alone, we recommend a trip to Slovenia or Italy, or take a look at the report of my tour to Slovenia.
