H.O.G. Rally 2026 in Cascais Portugal

June 18 - June 21

The coast is calling - Harley-Davidson H.O.G. Rally 2026 in Cascais Portugal

The Harley-Davidson H.O.G. Rally 2026 takes place from June 18 to 21 in Cascais instead. The place is not new to me. I was there once before in 2018, also as part of an H.O.G. Rally. Even then, it was clear that the region is a great destination, but it is simply far away from our latitudes. If you want to travel there from Germany, you have a lot of driving to do.

A long way to the sea

To make it tangible, the distance from Frankfurt to Cascais is around 2,300 kilometers. The pure driving time is around 22 hours and that is again only the theoretical value from the navigation system. In reality, you often stop on the way, get stuck in traffic or simply need a break because otherwise it's no fun.

More Information

If you take a relaxed approach, it takes around three days to get down to the Atlantic coast and then another three days to get back. So you can easily spend six days just getting there and back before you're actually there.

This is also the reason why many are considering an alternative for 2026. If you don't want to make a complete motorcycle trip across Europe or simply don't have the time, you can combine the rally with a flight and have the bike transported. This saves kilometers, nerves and vacation days. And you still have your own motorcycle on site, which makes the trip authentic again.

Despite the distance, Cascais is worth it. The Atlantic coast, the winding sections through the Serra de Sintra and the mixture of coastal light, small villages and quiet country lanes have something that you don't often find in Europe. The route along the sea, the wind and the alternation between the mountains and the sea is something that stays with you for a long time.

📍 Tip: If you want to combine the rally with a real road trip, you should take care of your accommodation and route in good time - because the rally will once again attract thousands of bikers in 2026.

Cascais as a relaxed coastal town

Cascais itself is relaxed, compact and right on the water. Small alleyways, the harbor, the view of the Atlantic after a long day of driving - it's just perfect. What you shouldn't underestimate: Accommodation is limited. This was already the case in 2018 and will be no different in 2026. Those who only want to book shortly before the rally often only find high prices or hotels outside. Many book their room early via Booking.com, simply to have peace and quiet and not end up somewhere inland.

Travel options

  • Classic via France and Spain: Beautiful routes, but a lot of distance.
  • Flight + bike transportation: for many the most sensible option, especially if you don't want to spend a whole week just in the saddle.
  • Combined with two weeks of touring: If you have time, plan the rally as the centerpiece of a larger trip and drive up or down Portugal before or after the event.

West coast heading north - Tour recommendation

If you are already there, you should take your time on the return journey and drive up the Portuguese west coast. The route is not a sprint, but a section that gets better the more you let yourself drift.

From Cascais, we first head to Ericeira. The wind, the cliffs and the special light make this section so strong that you actually only want to stop briefly and then stay much longer than planned. We continue to Nazaré. The huge winter waves may not show up in summer, but the atmosphere here remains powerful and rough, just as you would expect from this coast.

It gets quieter between Nazaré and Coimbra. Small towns, easy country lanes and a coastline that is covered in mist in the morning and only opens up later. If you like photography or simply enjoy a quiet ride, you'll find exactly the right mix here if you want to get out and about.

Continue towards Porto and Galicia

Porto is a good stopover. If you want to go further after that, there is no way around Galicia. The coast becomes more angular, the towns smaller and the landscape more open. Less touristy, more real Spain. Here you can simply cycle for two days without thinking too much. If you have time, ride up to A Coruña or even to the Costa da Morte.

Harleysite comment

The H.O.G. Rally in Cascais is a strong destination, but you shouldn't fool yourself into thinking it's a short detour. The distance is long, the effort is real. In return, you get a rally in a region that has a lot to offer in terms of scenery and driving, and a road trip that is worthwhile. Whether you drive, fly or combine the two ultimately depends on how much time you have. But no matter how: Cascais remains a destination to remember.
