The first and most important piece of information: this event is for early risers. Anyone who thinks they can turn up in the late afternoon will have missed the best bit and will only see the dust cloud left behind by departing Harleys. The whole thing is a bit like speed dating, but specifically for Harleys. Before 10:00 a.m., the grounds are still quiet, the exhibitors are ready, and tumbleweed blows through the alleys like in an old Western. At 10:00 a.m. sharp, everything changes.

A very unusual and enjoyable event

You really have to experience it for yourself: when the big iron gate opens right on time and it finally begins. The Harleys are lined up in front of the gate, waiting to be let in—basically an event in itself. Then they go in in groups so that everyone can park calmly and there's no chaos. If you want to get in faster, you should have your VIP Express Check-in ticket with you. Within the first few hours, the grounds are almost full, and there is even a temporary admission stop when it gets too crowded. So it pays to get up early!

What makes this event special!

Events with an admission fee often have a difficult time – but this one feels different. Five euros from each admission fee goes to the museum, and the location alone is something very special, which makes it worthwhile in itself. It's “only” a one-day event, but renowned exhibitors from all over the country are coming – I've never seen anything like it before. In addition to the three Harley-Davidson dealers Pfeiffer, MotoMaxx, and Thunderbike, there are some really big-name exhibitors in Hattingen.

At the Harley Meeting Ruhrpott, you will find over 50 exhibitors from the scene – everything your heart desires: from exhaust systems to jewelry, helmets, airbrushing, and chassis, everything is there.

Is it worth the long journey?

I would say that anyone who still has vacation days left and if the weather is at least halfway decent should not miss out on the atmosphere and this extraordinary event. The event runs at full throttle for about five hours—during this time, you have to check out all the Harleys that drive up there, and there are lots of really beautiful machines. Incidentally, the location is perfect for taking pictures of your own bike against the backdrop of the old industrial museum.
