Kris Barra's band. Some quiet rock, good riffs and a good start. YouTube
A good live band that you could already see at Wacken Open Air in 2015. So it's clear that they celebrate rock a lot harder on stage. There's a good beat and the band will be pouring the first beers. YouTube
Airborne is an Australian hard rock band and is my favorite at the event. Really good rock music. YouTube
That certainly depends on where you start from, whether you want to drive yourself and how much time you have. There are many roads that lead to Budapest. If you don't have much time and would like to be there with your Harley, you can book transport with SKS Reisen and fly to Budapest, which is certainly the most convenient way to be there.
If you want to take it easy, you can spend the night in one of the two beautiful cities. Personally, I think Dresden is very nice; here you can find very good restaurants and pubs in the evening where you can end your first evening well. I would always prefer a hotel with its own garage, in a big city like this you never know. If you stay overnight in Dresden, you should go to bed early, because from here it's about 700 kilometers to Budapest if you want to go all out.
A tip would be to stop in Dresden, there is the beer garden “ Schillergarten ” , where many Harley bikers will meet, you just shouldn't overdo it if you want to continue driving towards Budapest the next day 🙂 .
Check out my tips for the Budapest tour and remember to check with your insurance company whether you have an Eastern Europe clause in your contract!
Accommodation in Dresden
Prague is just as beautiful a city, it is only 160 kilometers from Dresden to the capital of the Czech Republic. Last year I went to the Prague Harley Days there. I took the photo with the Street Glide ST 117 in front of the National Museum in Prague. Both are magnificent, as is the museum and the Street Glide ST.
The city is beautiful, you can stay longer than just one night. The prices are actually the same as ours, if you want it cheap you have to stay further away. But now it's still over 500 kilometers to Budapest. It's all possible, but it all depends on what you want and what you're traveling with. There's something good about it, the time of year is optimal and if it's not raining, you should have the perfect weather for motorcyclists.
The next big capital could be Vienna on the tour to Budapest. Why not, it's a bit of a hassle, but you could sweeten it with a nice piece of Sachertorte in Vienna. It's about 330 kilometers from Prague to Vienna, which sounds very relaxed.
An alternative to Vienna would be Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia has a rustic old town from the 18th century and is only about 200 kilometers from Budapest. However, you should be able to walk easily if you want to get to the beautiful cafes and bars in the old town, as it is only accessible to pedestrians. Basically it's a sin to visit all these capitals for just one night, they all have something to offer. You could of course stop here on the way back, but this is often difficult if you don't plan for it, otherwise you'll want to go home.
From Vienna it is only 250 kilometers to Budapest. That would mean that you started comfortably after breakfast in Vienna and reached the capital of Hungary after 3-4 hours and could check in again and get ready for the party. I have found that it is always better to arrive at your destination a little earlier in order to clarify the situation, what is where and how things generally work in the city. The capital on the Danube has the potential for its own adventure program; everything should be brought together under one roof. Because one thing is clear, Harley-Davidson will have a lot of fun in Budapest. We will certainly find out more about this on January 18th.
Why not, if you are already traveling in the East, a visit to Silesia can also be attractive. Katowice used to be known for its coal mines, I have never been here myself, but the entry on the holiday guru made me suspicious, where Katowice is considered an insider tip. Beautiful old buildings, some of which certainly have old German features. Katowice also has an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer if anyone collects chips or t-shirts.
The city belonged to Prussia from 1742 and was part of the German Empire from 1871 until it passed to Poland in 1921. That's enough story for now, I think there are enough options to make the tour to Budapest a short and nice trip. I've done trips like this several times, it's always nice to explore other cities and countries. Of course, the best way to do this is to discover the world with the appropriate Harley-Davidson tourer and like-minded friends or partners.
