A day for children in South Sudan
Harley-Davidson charity event in aid of Sam Childers' children's aid project on April 25th in Hamburg
(Hamburg, April 18, 2019) In April, Hamburg welcomes a very special guest: Sam Childers. The charismatic American is a former MC member, a convinced Christian and is committed to orphans in South Sudan. There he and his wife founded the Angels of East Africa children's village, which currently looks after more than 300 kids from the country's crisis areas. Since Childers has always been a motorcycle fan and rider, the Hamburg Harley-Davidson representatives invited him to go on a ride together and to an evening charity event.
On April 25th, Childers will get on his motorcycle at 4 p.m. at Harley-Davidson Hamburg-Süd, An der Reitbahn 1d in 21218 Seevetal/Hittfeld, to take a leisurely and extensive ride through the Hanseatic city together with Harley-Davidson employees and customers . Every motorcycle fan – no matter which brand they prefer – is warmly invited to take part. The destination of the trip is Harley-Davidson Hamburg-Nord at Ivo-Hauptmann-Ring 4 in 22159 Hamburg, where the entourage will arrive around 6 p.m. At 7 p.m., visitors can watch the film “Machine Gun Preacher,” a biopic about Childers released in 2011, as well as a lecture by the guest of honor. Of course, questions can be asked so that there can be a lively exchange of ideas. Of course, Harley-Davidson Hamburg-Nord will provide food and drink - including dishes freshly prepared on site. The “Soup Chickens” offer a hearty, good, filling soup for €6.40, just like you can get in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The evening's musical entertainment will be provided by singer and guitarist Tobias Tadday, who has already been on stage with Pohlmann, the H-Blockx and Johannes Oerding.

The star of the evening is of course Sam Childers. The son of a US steelworker joined an MC at a young age, became a drug addict and a criminal before turning to Christianity in 1992 and becoming self-employed in the construction trade. Six years later he visited Sudan for the first time. Numerous trips followed and strengthened his conviction that he had to do something for the children who had been caught up in the brutal civil war raging there. With his children's village Angels of East Africa, he has so far managed to rescue around 1,000 kids from war and conflict zones and give them a new, better life.
“We are pleased to have Sam Childers with us on April 25th and to be able to support him in his impressive commitment to the children in South Sudan,” says Axel Kunth-Joost, Managing Director of Harley-Davidson Hamburg-Nord, explaining his commitment. “The country is still plagued by violence, poverty and hunger and the situation for the children remains catastrophic.”
