Another break year: IMOT – International Motorcycle Exhibition Munich canceled for 2022
Munich. The IMOT – International Motorcycle Exhibition planned for February 18th to 20th, 2022 at the exhibition center in Munich-Riem has been canceled. With this decision, IMOT GmbH is reacting to the continued high Covid-19 infection rates, the existing restrictions for major events and the resulting planning uncertainty for the organizers and exhibitors.
“It is very bitter, but ultimately we had no choice but to press the pause button for the 2022 edition of our trade fair,” explains Petra Zahradka, Managing Director of IMOT.
“Unfortunately, the Covid-19 infection situation in Bavaria and the surrounding regions remains at a consistently high level, and there is no trend reversal in sight for the coming weeks. Therefore, it will not be possible for us to organize a large public trade fair like the IMOT on the planned date with the necessary safety for the visitors, our exhibitors and, last but not least, for our team." After the IMOT - International Motorcycle Exhibition for over 27 years has long been a fixture in the German two-wheeler trade fair landscape, the organizers took a break for the first time in 2021 due to the pandemic situation. After the preparations for IMOT 2022 were again very successful and the industry showed great interest in the restart, the renewed cancellation is particularly painful. “In addition to our responsibility in matters of health, our decision to cancel is also based on the need to give exhibitors, their employees and service providers the necessary planning security,” Zahradka continues.
“Our goal is actually to completely reorganize IMOT. The key points in this new concept are the move to the exhibition center in Munich-Riem and the cooperation with the travel and leisure trade fair f.re.e, which is planned there at the same time. as well as the Munich Auto Days. We are now planning to realize this very attractive event combination for all trade fair visitors in 2023.”

IMOT is moving to the Munich exhibition center in 2022
Munich. Important news for motorcycle fans: In 2022, the IMOT – International Motorcycle Exhibition will be moving to the Munich exhibition center in Riem. The new location offers the organizer various options to expand the event spatially and make it even more attractive. IMOT will also run from February 18 to 20, 2022, parallel to the large travel and leisure trade fair f.re.e. With a shared ticket, visitors can not only find out about the latest trends and highlights from the motorcycle industry, they also have access to the travel area, caravanning & camping, outdoor & sport, the bike zone, the Munich Auto Days and the Munich Golf Days . A win-win model for organizers, fans and exhibitors that uses synergies and opens up the offers to an even larger target group.

Every February for 27 years, around 60,000 motorcycle fans came to the IMOT in Freimann at the MOC event center on three days of the trade fair to get in the mood for the upcoming biker season. From February 2022, IMOT visitors will be heading to the International Motorcycle Exhibition at the Munich exhibition center in Riem. IMOT managing director Petra Zahradka looks forward to the move with both a laughing and a crying eye: “The MOC was a piece of home for us for 27 years, so the decision was not easy for us. However, the new location offers IMOT completely new spatial possibilities and state-of-the-art conditions both outdoors and indoors.” In the future, IMOT will have more than 20,000 square meters of exhibition space in two large halls on the Munich Trade Fair grounds to present the innovations in these areas Motorcycles, scooters and quads as well as accessories and tuning available.
Another advantage of the new location: IMOT travel and leisure trade fair. In this way, the organizers take advantage of common interests. “Being able to start the motorcycle season in southern Germany as part of f.re.e is a really uniquely good situation,” explains Petra Zahradka. “In this way, we offer our regular audience access to an even wider range of offerings. Since many motorcycle enthusiasts are also outdoor, sports and travel fans – and vice versa – visitors can only benefit.” Dr. Reinhard Pfeiffer, deputy chairman of the management board of Messe München, welcomes IMOT's decision: “The International Motorcycle Exhibition is an ideal fit for f.re.e and complements the existing mobility axis with the f.re.e theme areas of caravanning & camping and bicycles as well “The Munich Auto Days were perfect.”
A shared ticket grants access to this comprehensive offer: From 2022, IMOT fans will have access to a total of four events and will therefore have the opportunity to move freely in all halls - which of course also applies to the classic f.re.e guests to which IMOT applies.
What was sad, unfortunately, was that the Custombike Show 2021 was canceled today by the organizer.
At first people were happy that it was taking place at all and now the new organizer is being thwarted straight away. It's clear, at some point you have to make a decision!
It may have been difficult for the organizer, but if they hadn't made the decision themselves, given the current developments, it would certainly have been ordered by the authorities. If we listen to the reports coming out of Berlin, the situation will probably not get better in the near future, regardless of whether we like it or not, in which case we, or even Parliament, will not be asked.
According to his own impression, the organizer tried everything to get something going this year, now it is clear that we will all come away empty-handed at the end of the year, no events, no show, nothing is going on in 2020. Looking back, that is really annoying, Hopefully things will get better again in 2021. Nobody wants to get the virus, but sometimes you wonder whether the proportions are generally right.

But what is already clear is that the new date for 2021 has already been set. The Custombike Show will hopefully start again as usual in Bad Salzuflen from December 3rd to 5th, 2021

In doing so, they are reacting to the renewed rise in Covid-19 infection numbers and to the uncertainty in the industry regarding major motorcycle events in the next few months.
THE IMOT CONTINUES FOR ONE YEAR 13
“After weighing up all the findings and also in view of the Corona situation in Germany, which is currently developing very negatively, we have decided with a heavy heart to cancel IMOT 2021,” explains Petra Zahradka, Managing Director of IMOT.
“No one can currently estimate what the situation will be next spring - and we can and want to organize an IMOT only as professionally as we have successfully done for more than 27 years. We are canceling our trade fair out of responsibility towards our exhibitors, our team and of course towards our visitors." In order to be able to better assess the situation and to get an idea of the mood in the industry, the management had invited the exhibitors of the 2020 trade fair in an online Survey asked for an assessment for the upcoming IMOT. “A large majority were interested in spring trade fairs in 2021, but the same majority expressed great skepticism about the feasibility of trade fairs,” said Petra Zahradka. “Commitments and bookings could only be made at a very late stage and short-term cancellations, including from exhibitors, should be possible.
We fully understand this uncertainty in the industry - but it was also another reason for us to cancel IMOT 2021 early. We would like to give everyone involved planning security. We are sure that we have made the right decision and rely on the understanding of our exhibitors and fans. We are now starting to plan IMOT 2022 in Munich.”
The Custombike Show 2019 has opened its doors and we can't wait to see how the custom bike market develops for 2020 and whether we can expect new impulses.
The Custombike Show is the last major motorcycle trade fair this year and a harbinger of what we will see in the way of conversions on the streets next year.

Harley-Davidson is strongly represented!
Over 300 exhibitors have come here this year and around 1,000 custom bikes can be seen in the halls. Harley-Davidson has a strong presence at the motorcycle trade fair with various Harley-Davidson authorized dealers. Great conversions like those from Thunderbike are always a particular magnet.

Harley-Davidson Bielefeld, Düsseldorf and Osnabrück appear as a group with a large stand and give a good insight into how you can modify your original Harley-Davidson.
At the Harley-Davidson Fabriky stand you can see some models in the FXGTS style, based on this year's Custom King winner from the USA, this type of fairing is a new trend, in the new P&A catalog you can find similar parts for the new Low Rider S.

The Fat Boy can often be seen as a conversion at the custom bike show , its popularity is unbroken, the new design and especially in the powerful 114 cui Milwaukee-Eight engine version are in great demand. Almost anything is possible with the Fat Boy; it is particularly ideal for conversions with mega-wide tires a la Rick's .

I would have thought that Harley-Davidson LiveWire , although it was visible, it was somehow lost. It was actually supposed to be delivered to the first customers before Christmas, but this was delayed slightly due to the production stop, so the first ones will probably not be delivered until the beginning of 2020.

There was no sign of the e-bike trend at the Custombike Show; Harley-Davidson entered the market here very early. The traditional manufacturer has been working on this technology for over 5 years and the LiveWire will not remain the only model in this class.
However, the customer is not yet ready for the market, but our politics will force us to do so at some point, so we can perhaps be happy that Harley-Davidson is working on the technology, even if you don't like it.
There should actually no longer be a route closure for the LIVEWIRE, where motorcycles were previously no longer allowed to travel long distances due to noise protection.
Companies like Cult-Werk from Austria, which are not an official dealer and are dedicated to Harley-Davidson bikes, have a very good appearance at the trade fair and have cool bikes at the start.

There is a good mix of official Harley dealers and independent customizers and companies that offer parts specifically for Harley-Davidson bikes.
LEDs are trendy
This particularly includes everyone who has to do with LED lamps; HIGHSIDER has a large presence in this area; they have been offering high-quality LED lamps and indicators for years. Kellermann is also represented with its popular LED indicators.

The bike show is spread throughout the halls, there are again a lot of stylish bikes, sometimes you really have to wonder how they keep coming up with new ideas.

And there are also the strange exhibitors who let their creativity flow completely freely. I particularly include the guys from Motorcycles Art, who built a music station out of an engine block and produce creative motorcycles for the wall, they look really cool !
They also build according to customer specifications, I would imagine that a music station made from a V-2 engine is probably not the problem.

CONCLUSION OF THE CUSTOM BIKE SHOW
There was really a lot to see, it's certainly just a personal opinion, but for me the Custombike Show is one of the best motorcycle shows internationally. In 2019 it looks very tidy and presents itself to the audience with very good exhibitors, no junk, which was often seen in the past, that is a thing of the past.
You can also deal with the prices from the catering industry if you use the mixed calculation and get supplies from the exhibitors who offer coffee etc., then it's fine.
Of course, some people may have found something they don't like. Nevertheless, we can be happy to be able to visit such a high-quality trade fair in winter.
Anyone who has observed the motor market in general and seen how things are going downhill at the IAA will understand that it is no longer a given that it can be a given today to put on a good trade fair.
CUSTOMBIKE SHOW 2019 – The world’s largest trade fair for converted motorcycles
The first weekend in December marks the 15th anniversary of the CUSTOMBIKE SHOW.

Customizers and motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the world will meet again from December 6th to 8th, 2019 in Bad Salzuflen, East Westphalia. Over 1,000 refined machines will be on display in four exhibition halls and more than 300 companies will be presenting everything related to customizing motorcycles on 28,000 square meters of exhibition space.
The finale of the International German Championship in Custom Bike Building will be spectacular, with around 300 participants competing with their unique bikes for titles and trophies in 18 categories.
The special exhibition “Halbstark”, which has its own exhibition hall dedicated to it, will also cause a stir. Kreidler, Hercules, Puch and Zündapp were the names of the lettering that adorned countless children's rooms.

Since 2007, two teams have competed against each other, each with a show bike. The Biker Build-Off system is well known: The two teams have three days to complete a custom bike live in front of the trade fair visitors.
The winner in this exciting duel will be awarded on Sunday afternoon. At this year's CUSTOMBIKE SHOW, the Swiss Sandra and Markus Fröhlich (McSands Motor Shop) and their German opponents Stephan and Max A. Schneiderbanger (SSCycle/ Fred Flitzefuß bodywork) are fighting for victory in the European Biker Build-Off 2019.
Both teams are very well-coordinated and have already won various prizes for their conversions at renowned motorcycle and custom bike trade fairs. They belong to the “old school” in terms of craftsmanship and share their passion for old Harleys. Man and woman vs. father and son – who builds the better custom bike?
It will not only be exciting for the motorcycle builders, but also for the visitors. Exclusive prizes with a total value of over 35,000 euros will be raffled off on the three days of the trade fair.
The prizes include a Honda Monkey, a Triumph Speed and a Harley-Davidson Sportster Iron.

Because it looks like the two models presented will probably only be available at the end of the 2020 season and are already listed as the 2021 model year. This will cause some dissatisfaction among Harley dealers, because the Pan America is supposed to generate new sales.

The custom bikes mostly come from southern Europe and so there are many there that we don't see here.
In addition, Verona has a beautiful old town, so it's worth spending a long weekend here with a few friends.
CUSTOMBIKE SUMMER DAYS 2019 – Mannheim meets motorcycle
More than 15,000 visitors flocked to the CUSTOMBIKE SUMMER DAYS on the Maimarkt grounds in Mannheim in mid-July. Bikers from all over Europe celebrated a unique motorcycle festival until late at night
The second edition of the CUSTOMBIKE SUMMER DAYS, which took place from July 19th to 21st at Mannheim's Maimarkt grounds, offered an even broader indoor and outdoor program than the premiere event last year. From ride-in bike shows to test rides of current series machines to stunt shows, steep wall acrobatics and open-air concerts, there was something for everyone.

Hundreds of series machines and custom bikes of all categories were exhibited on more than 25,000 square meters in the Maimarkthalle and on the outdoor area. More than 150 dealers offered everything related to motorcycles and customizing. The motorcycle parking space directly on the site and the free campground were well received and underlined the festival feeling of this unique mix of motorcycle fair, custom bike show and music event.
A spectacular stunt show
After the start of the trade fair on Friday was naturally slow, from Saturday morning the hut was full: visitors flocked to the site and thousands of bikes rode right into the middle of the hustle and bustle.
What particularly impressed people there was the spectacular stunt show by Kawasaki pilot Chris Rid and the daring devil rides on the steep wall, during which Jagath Perera and his team raced along the historic wooden planks with their old Indian motorcycles.
The Slow Race was slower, but no less exciting. Creep down the 50-meter track at idle, don't put your foot on the ground, of course be slower than your opponent on the side track and, above all, don't fall over:
This is less simple than one might think. The undisputed champion was a lady on a converted Yamaha SR 500, who crushed her male competition.

We celebrated, danced and laughed until late into the night. For the participants in the custom bike show, it was all about fame and honor in five categories.
