Sissy, Sachertorte and Schönbrunn – if you only think of iconic clichés when you think of Vienna, you only know a small part of the truth.

Austria's capital is as edgy as it is creative, as stylish as it is self-confident - and Vienna has an event that is second to none: the Vienna Harley Days.

110 this year , there is definitely more than one reason for fans of motorcycles, music and good parties to pay a visit to the metropolis from July 19th to 21st, 2013.

It doesn't matter whether you come on a motorcycle or bicycle, by car or on foot, because everyone is welcome at this major event. In 2013 the event will take place again in the heart of the city on the Danube Island near the Reichsbrücke, and entry is free, as in previous years.

Harley riders from other (federal) countries have the opportunity to travel together as part of the big rally called “Capital Ride”.

Anyone who doesn't (yet) have a motorcycle license can try out the authentic Jump Start driving simulator - a fully functional Harley-Davidson - and won't be able to get rid of the big grin on their face when accelerating, braking and shifting gears.

Meanwhile, cool bands take the microphone to each other on the large open-air stage and underline the unique atmosphere that only exists at Harley-Davidson.

Anyone who doesn't follow along is deaf!

on Sunday , the bikers form up for a parade along the 5.3 kilometer long Vienna Ringstrasse, which is traditionally cheered by the Viennese and numerous onlookers, whose monumental architectural splendor from the State Opera to the Art History Museum represents the world of the Habsburgs, a world of seeing and being seen presented by a thriving art and culture scene - after all, a little cliché never hurt anyone... Vienna remains Vienna, and that's the beauty of it!

From May 10th to 13th, 2012, the Vienna Harley Days rocked Vienna's Danube Island

In 2012, the Austrian capital provided the magnificent backdrop for the Vienna Harley Days for the fourth time.

As usual, entry was free and as usual, not only Harley riders but all motorcycle fans and friends of cool music and a good atmosphere were invited.

What was new, however, was the location: this year the festival pitched its tents for the first time on Vienna's Danube Island.

Here, upstream of the Reichsbrücke, a huge Harley-Davidson-style party was celebrated over four days, which around 40,000 enthusiastic visitors did not miss.

Even Peter showed mercy and forewent rain.

Vienna_Harley_Days_2012_13On an area of around 20,000 m², the fans were offered everything their hearts desired in the specially built festival tent city “Harley Village”: the complete Harley-Davidson model range to admire and for a free test drive, lots of accessories and clothing and of course a comprehensive culinary menu Offer that was supplemented by the nearby restaurants in the “Sunken City” party mile.

The adrenaline-charged supporting program featured breathtaking bike stunts by Rainer Schwarz, and numerous live bands created a great atmosphere with blues, country and rock on the large open-air stage.
On the second day of the event, the event scored with an impressive highlight, the Capital Ride.

Under the motto “ride along instead of just drive there”, more than 1,000 Harley riders traveled to Vienna from all directions. On Saturday, May 11th, they conquered the capital in an impressive convoy, giving the festival a brilliant start.

Another highlight was the traditional Harley-Davidson parade around the magnificent Ringstrasse, which took place on Sunday, May 13th. Around 3,500 motorcyclists rolled through the middle of Vienna on their polished bikes and caused a stir and amazement among thousands of onlookers.

Of course the party will continue next year. If you want to keep up to date with the event, go to www.vienna-harley-days.at.

Austrian spirit

Right in the middle of May:
The Vienna Harley Days rocked Austria's capital

From May 13th to 15th, Harley-Davidson invited people to Vienna, and over 30,000 came. They came from all Austrian federal states and from Germany, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy and Switzerland. They came by Harley, by car or by tram. And they streamed into the Village directly in front of the huge Ernst Happel Stadium.

Although the weather could be described as mixed and the temperatures were mostly “shady”, the relaxed atmosphere at the stadium resembled that from the dreams of a real biker: Anyone who sat down relaxed on the grounds or chilled in the party bus enjoyed the thunder from 5,000 to 6,000 V-twins that roared through the picture either from left to right or the other way around.

No one was like the other... On Saturday, around 1,200 of them formed up for a huge parade that drove down the magnificent Ringstrasse to the cheers of the Viennese.

And everyone who was looking for action got more than enough of it: People were amazed at the daring motorcycle acrobatics of Rainer Schwarz, who let it rip several times a day, and took the latest Harley models for test rides. Particularly popular: the new Forty-Eight, which took hearts by storm with its classic bobber look.

Mallorca Bike Week 2022

18hd10_vienna_harley_days.jpgPeople bought clothing and accessories at countless stands, ate and drank in the festival tent, feasted at the numerous catering stands, and listened to lots of music. No fewer than eleven bands performed on the open-air stage. Blues, country, rock, rockabilly or pop – personal preference was irrelevant, as the ear canals were treated to all of them. The biggest cheer once again went to Supermax, and singer Kurt Hauenstein – himself a declared fan of the bikes from Milwaukee – enjoyed it as a top act, cool as ever despite the onset of rain.

Anyone who attended the event this year will come back to the beautiful city of the Habsburgs next year, and everyone else now knows what they missed. So make a note of the date for 2011: from May 12th to 14th, 2011 there will be a lot going on again in Vienna, and the highlight will be a motorcycle rally that will take participants from all directions to Vienna.

In the large festival tent city, motorcycle fans will find everything their hearts desire - including a main street where seeing and being seen is celebrated. Driver's license holders are allowed to hop on a Harley-Davidson or Buell to take a free and extensive test drive - although a certain risk of addiction cannot be ruled out.

On the large open air stage, hot rock, pop and blues bands give each other the microphone, and on the stunt mile, two-wheeler professional Rainer Schwarz shows motorcycle acrobatics that every normal biker should stay away from. The spectators will be left breathless by the stoppies, wheelies and burnouts!

During the highlight, the big motorcycle parade, all motorcyclists from near and far are invited to a tour along the famous Ringstrasse, which is celebrated by the Viennese, and which is closed for a short time especially for this purpose.

In short: you shouldn't miss the Vienna Harley Days. Simply mark May 13th and delete May 15th – and off you go to the Danube metropolis!
