Heart for children
Harley-Davidson Hamburg-Nord donates 9,000 euros to charitable institutions
( Hamburg , March 6, 2018) It was the first motorcycle that Axel Kunth-Joost and Roger Gierz sold as Harley-Davidson dealers. That was 19 years ago now. And when this very Harley-Davidson Sportster was offered to them for purchase in 2017, the two managing directors jumped at the chance. “It was immediately clear to us that we wanted to have this machine back,” grins Gierz, “because when we moved into our new and much more spacious company building, we wanted to celebrate in a big way and raffle off our personal number one for a good cause.”
No sooner said than done - but before that, the machine, which was almost two decades old, was given an extensive makeover in the in-house workshop and was immediately transformed into a real custom bike.
Fans can tell at first glance that the style of the famous American stuntman and danger freak Evel Knievel served as a model for the conversions. The work was completed just in time for the move from Harley-Davidson Hamburg-Nord to the Farmsen district. All guests who attended the big opening weekend and purchased a ticket in the form of one of the 1,000 fan sets consisting of a T-shirt and pin had the chance to win the exclusive unique item.
A visitor from Berlin finally won the race: Kerstin C. could hardly believe her luck when she was able to receive the unique two-wheeled vehicle at the Hamburg Motorcycle Days. The motorcycle also brought good luck to charitable organizations, as Harley-Davidson Hamburg-Nord donated the proceeds from the raffle. The Heinz Hoenig Schmiede, which aims to give traumatized children orientation and courage, received 4,000 euros, and 5,000 euros went to the Erlenbusch residential group in Hamburg, a facility for children, young people and adults with physical and multiple disabilities. There the money will be used to purchase materials for urgently needed renovation work - the implementation of this work will once again be carried out free of charge by expert craftsmen who belong to the Metropolitan Chapter of the Harley Owners Group .
Last year, members of the chapter actively helped and designed a room for a disabled girl in the Erlenbusch residential group. “We are happy that with our motorcycle project and thanks to the active commitment of our chapter members we can help make the world a little sunnier for children in need,” says Axel Kunth-Joost. Anyone who wants to visit him and his team can find them at Ivo-Hauptmann-Ring 4 in Hamburg-Farmsen.
