HARLEY-DAVIDSON ICON MODEL 2023 - ELECTRA GLIDE HIGHWAY KING
WITH THE ELECTRA GLIDE HIGHWAY KING, HARLEY-DAVIDSON PRESENTS A NEW ICONS MODEL
The Icons Motorcycle Collection takes the viewer back to the Swingin’ Sixties
FRANKFURT (02.05.2023) - The Electra Glide Highway King, the third model of the Harley-Davidson Icon's motorcycle collection, captivates with pure nostalgia. Wire wheels, whitewall tires, a two-tone windshield, the sprung solo saddle and the carefully selected paint colors are inspired by a classic Harley-Davidson: the 1968 FLH Electra Glide - a motorcycle that conquered the highways in the era of paper maps and 15-cent burgers. The strictly limited edition Electra Glide Highway King combines the flair of the swingin’ sixties with the comfort and technology of a modern Harley-Davidson Grand American Touring Bikes.
As part of the Icons Motorcycle Collection, the Motor Company presents a strictly limited edition model once a year that pays homage to a classic Harley-Davidson. Each individual machine in the collection is numbered and is only produced in the year of its release. From the new Electra Glide Highway King, only 1,750 units will be produced, which will soon be available at a price of 38,495 euros (RRP in Germany) or 47,595 euros (RRP in Germany). Austria) are available from H-D dealers.
In 1968, the Electra Glide was Harley-Davidson's top model. Those who wanted even more comfort and convenience on their tours back then could order their bike with King of the Highway accessories, which included panniers, a windshield, a luggage rack and engine guards.
„In this era, the Electra Glide was an extremely luxurious motorcycle,“ explains Brad Richards, Harley-Davidson Vice President of Design and Creative Director. „The colors we chose for the Highway King are reminiscent of the original paint schemes offered in 1968. We even carefully matched the color of the lower windshield to the paint. In 1968, the optional fiberglass cases were only offered in white, so we kept them white in 2023 as well. The result is a thoroughly modern motorcycle that looks like an authentic classic.“
The Highway King is available in two color variants: Hi-Fi Orange (limited to 1,000 units) and Hi-Fi Magenta (limited to 750 units). The cases are finished in Birch White. The same color is also used for the accent strip, which contrasts the black denim areas on the tank with the base color. Even the tank logo is based on that of the 1968 model. Harley-Davidson laser engraves the graphics of the Icons Motorcycle Collection and a serial number in an insert in the tank console.
The lower section of the removable windscreen is tinted to match the paintwork. The sprung, black and white solo saddle with chrome railing is also reminiscent of the style of the FL models of the 1960s. The chrome-plated wire-spoke wheels and the wide whitewall tires contribute to the nostalgic look, as do the chrome-plated trim strips on the front fender and the panniers, the metal applications on the front fender and the fan air filter cover. Both sides of the front mudguard are adorned with Electra Glide lettering.
The backbone of the Electra Glide Highway King is the rigid Harley-Davidson Touring frame and a chassis designed for long-distance use. The preload of the rear emulsion suspension struts can be adjusted hydraulically using a rotary control to achieve optimum handling depending on the load on the bike and the rider's requirements. Dual Bending Valve technology optimizes the damping behaviour of the 49 mm fork, which ensures a safe riding experience, especially on uneven roads.
The Milwaukee-Eight 114 V-Twin, which is equipped with a Screamin’ Eagle exhaust system, ensures powerful performance in every situation. Electronic cruise control comes as standard for even more comfort. Halogen headlights and auxiliary headlights ensure excellent illumination of the road without detracting from the nostalgic styling.
The Reflex braking system guarantees first-class deceleration and a package of assistance systems - the RDRS Safety Enhancements - supports the rider both when riding straight ahead and when cornering. It includes the cornering anti-lock braking system, cornering-optimized electronic brake force distribution, cornering traction control, traction control and vehicle hold assist.Anyone who wants an Electra Glide Highway King should visit their nearest dealer quickly, because this strictly limited edition will sell out fast.
