WITH THE ELECTRA GLIDE HIGHWAY KING, HARLEY-DAVIDSON PRESENTS A NEW ICONS MODEL
The Icons Motorcycle Collection takes the viewer back to the Swingin' Sixties
FRANKFURT (May 2, 2023) - The Electra Glide Highway King , the third model in the Harley-Davidson Icons motorcycle collection, impresses with pure nostalgia. Wire-spoke wheels, whitewall tires, a two-tone windshield, suspended solo saddle and carefully selected paint colors are inspired by a classic Harley-Davidson: the 1968 FLH Electra Glide - a motorcycle that cruised the highways in the era of paper maps and 15-cent burgers conquered. The Electra Glide Highway King, manufactured in a strictly limited edition, combines the flair of the Swingin' Sixties with the comfort and technology of a modern Harley-Davidson Grand American Touring Bike.
As part of the Icons Motorcycle Collection, the Motor Company presents a strictly limited edition model once a year that pays homage to a classic Harley-Davidson. Each individual machine in the collection is numbered and is only manufactured in the year in which it was released. Only 1,750 copies of the new Electra Glide Highway King will be manufactured and will soon be available from HD dealers at a price of 38,495 euros (RRP Germany) or 47,595 euros (RRP Austria).
In 1968, the Electra Glide was Harley-Davidson's top model. Back then, anyone who wanted even more comfort and convenience on their tours could order their bike with King of the Highway accessories, which included suitcases, a windshield, a luggage rack and engine guards.
“In this era, the Electra Glide was a supremely luxurious motorcycle,” said Brad Richards, Harley-Davidson vice president of design and creative director. “The colors we chose for Highway King are reminiscent of the original paint options offered in 1968. We even carefully matched the color in the lower area of the windshield to the paint. In 1968, the optional fiberglass cases were only offered in white, so we kept them white in 2023. The result is a thoroughly modern motorcycle that looks like an authentic classic.”
The Highway King is offered in two color variants: Hi-Fi Orange (limited to 1,000 copies) and Hi-Fi Magenta (limited to 750 copies). The cases are finished in Birch White. The accent stripe, which sets off the black denim areas on the tank from the base color, also has the same color. Even the tank logo is based on that of the 1968 model. Harley-Davidson laser engraves the graphics of the Icons Motorcycle Collection and a serial number into an insert in the tank console.
The removable windshield is tinted in the lower area to match the paintwork. The sprung, black and white solo saddle with chrome railing is also reminiscent of the style of the FL models of the 1960s. The chrome-plated wire-spoke wheels and the wide whitewall tires contribute to the nostalgic look, as do the chrome-plated trim strips on the front fender and the cases, the metal applications on the front fender and the fan air filter cover. Both sides of the front mudguard are decorated with Electra Glide lettering.
The backbone of the Electra Glide Highway King is the rigid Harley-Davidson Touring frame and a chassis designed for long-distance use. The preload of the rear emulsion shock absorbers can be adjusted hydraulically using a rotary control to achieve optimal driving behavior depending on the load on the bike and the needs of the rider. The damping behavior of the 49 mm fork is optimized using dual bending valve technology, which ensures a safe driving experience, especially on uneven roads.
The Milwaukee-Eight 114 V-Twin, which is equipped with a Screamin' Eagle exhaust system, ensures powerful performance in every situation. Electronic cruise control comes as standard for even more comfort. Halogen headlights and auxiliary lights ensure excellent illumination of the road without compromising the nostalgic styling.
The Reflex braking system guarantees first-class deceleration and a package of assistance systems – the RDRS Safety Enhancements – supports the driver both when driving straight ahead and when cornering. It includes the cornering anti-lock braking system, cornering-optimized electronic brake force distribution, cornering traction control, traction control and vehicle hold assistant. Anyone who wants the Electra Glide Highway King should quickly visit their nearest authorized dealer, because the strictly limited edition will sell out quickly.
