Dynamic electric drive meets state-of-the-art infotainment

MILWAUKEE (July 11, 2019) – The Harley-Davidson LiveWire is a brand new electric motorcycle. The exciting new model stimulates the imagination with a sporty driving experience, pioneering technology and the high-quality look and feel of a real Harley-Davidson.

A low center of gravity, a stiff light metal frame and high-quality, fully adjustable chassis components give the LiveWire driving dynamics that impress. With a range of up to 146 miles (234.9 kilometers), it is tailored to an urban environment.

Their presentation is a critical part of 's More Roads to Harley-Davidson to reach a new generation of motorcyclists around the world. The initiative is characterized by attractive, innovative products in new segments of the motorcycle market, broader access to the brand and a strengthening of the global dealer network.

The driving experience on the LiveWire

The new LiveWire offers a previously unknown motorcycle experience - it can be mastered quickly by beginners and at the same time impresses even experienced experts.

Many of the sensory impressions that have previously dominated the motorcycle experience change radically with this new motorcycle. The HD Revelation drive delivers its powerful performance with smooth revving, while its simple operation allows the rider to fully enjoy dynamic movement and impressive acceleration - the essence of motorcycling.

  • Impressive driving dynamics: The instant torque of the HD Revelation drive ensures acceleration from 0 to 60 mph (96.6 km/h) in 3 seconds and acceleration from 60 (96.6 km/h) to 80 mph (128. 8 km/h) in 1.9 seconds. Thanks to the high and immediate torque of the electric motor, the LiveWire is absolutely confident when overtaking with plenty of torque.
  • Twist-and-go: The electric drive requires neither clutch nor gearbox, which makes operation much easier for less experienced bikers. All drivers will appreciate the braking effect of the recuperation, which recharges the battery, especially in stop-and-go traffic in the city.
  • Distinctive sound and minimal vibrations: The HD Revelation electric drive ensures a minimum of vibrations, waste heat and noise, which benefits driving comfort. As soon as the drive is started, the electric motor delivers subtle torque pulses to let the driver know that it is ready for use. The pulsation stops when driving off and starts again when stationary. On the move, the LiveWire creates a new, signature Harley-Davidson sound that reflects the electric power of the machine.
  • Easy maintenance: The HD LiveWire is particularly undemanding because it does not require numerous components that require regular maintenance in a combustion engine. There are no spark plugs, an air filter or a primary drive and of course there is no need to change the engine oil. Problems caused by fuel containing ethanol during wintering are also a thing of the past. Of course, some components of the LiveWire also need a little attention at certain intervals. These include the tension of the drive belt, the transmission oil, the brake fluid, the brake pads and the tires. Harley-Davidson offers a five-year, unlimited mileage warranty on the drive battery.
  • )**. Measured in the World Motorcycle Test Cycle (WMTC)***, the range is 98 miles (157.7 kilometers). The DC Fast Charge (DCFC) rapid charging technology allows the battery to be charged from zero to 80 percent in just 40 minutes or from zero to 100 percent in 60 minutes.
  • Leading in electrification: Harley-Davidson wants to take on the pioneering role in the electric motorcycle segment. A critical part of this commitment is to build a comprehensive network of charging stations around the world. Harley-Davidson is working to provide riders with the ability to charge their motorcycles wherever they are – at home, at an authorized Harley-Davidson dealer and other convenient locations. Harley-Davidson dealers that offer the LiveWire will have a Fast Charge station.

  • Sporty, precise handling: The LiveWire's high-quality chassis guarantees agile driving characteristics in the city and on winding roads beyond the city.
  • The low center of gravity is an advantage for agility and is just as noticeable when braking as it is when cornering.
  • The torsion-resistant frame made of cast light metal contributes significantly to the precise, playful handling, which gives the LiveWire an exciting driving experience in every driving situation.
  • The high-quality Showa BFRC (Balanced Free Rear Cushion Lite) central spring strut on the rear wheel is fully adjustable and ensures the perfect synthesis of high driving comfort and maximum precision.
  • The Showa SFF-BP (Separate Function Front Fork-Big Piston) upside-down fork is in no way inferior to the Monoshock in terms of performance and adjustment options. In particular, it offers excellent damping properties at low speeds, which benefits vehicle control in typical urban driving situations.
  • For outstanding braking performance with a clear pressure point, the LiveWire is equipped with Brembo monoblock front brake calipers that act on two 300 millimeter brake discs.
  • The 180 millimeter (rear) and 120 millimeter (front) wide Harley-Davidson/Michelin Scorcher tires were designed to further optimize the LiveWire's driving characteristics in every respect.

The LiveWire technology

The comprehensive equipment of the new Harley-Davidson LiveWire with electronic assistance systems and interfaces offers the driver a safe, individual and fully connected driving experience. (Details can be found in a separate publication.)

  • The Reflex Defensive Rider Systems (RDRS) Suite includes cornering ABS (C-ABS), cornering traction control (C-TCS) and DSCS traction control for sporty and safe driving behavior even in adverse driving situations.

  • The brilliant 4.3-inch TFT color display with touchscreen function on the handlebars is perfectly legible and provides the driver with a wealth of information.
  • Seven selectable driving modes give the LiveWire optimal driving characteristics for a variety of different operating conditions and allow the intensity of electronic control interventions to be perfectly adjusted.
  • The Daymaker LED headlight ensures bright and precise illumination. All light sources use LED technology.
  • The HD Connect smartphone integration offers comprehensive cloud and connectivity functions via the LTE cellular network and the latest version of the Harley-Davidson app.

Styling and design of the LiveWire

With the new LiveWire, Harley-Davidson is creating a design foundation for future electric vehicles with authentic Harley-Davidson styling.

  • The design of the LiveWire follows the classic Harley-Davidson philosophy: the focus is on the engine. Just as the V-Twin is considered the most striking element of all previous Harley-Davidson motorcycles, the electric motor of the LiveWire attracts everyone's attention. Its bright housing and its powerful mechanical design visually convey the power bundled within.
  • The designers designed the light metal housing of the main battery with functional cooling fins that make a specific reference to air-cooled combustion engines.
  • When the suspension is compressed, the rear fender moves together with the rear wheel and hugs it so closely that it almost disappears from view. This trick makes the high “wasp waist” of the slim rear possible.
  • The paintwork also reflects the state-of-the-art technology of the new LiveWire. The special surface gives the paint the look of anodized metal. The two colors Yellow Fuse and Orange Fuse are available for this finish. The LiveWire is also available in Vivid Black.
  • Already at the presentation, Harley-Davidson is offering a selection of accessories and accessories tailored entirely to the new LiveWire. These include an alternative rear with a double seat, a narrowly cut “Speed Screen” windshield, decorative applications, handlebar grips, hand levers and footrests as well as a tarpaulin with a charging port. Many existing Harley-Davidson Motor Parts & Accessories including hand and foot controls, mirrors and decorative lights from the Spectra Glo range can also be used to customize the LiveWire.

  1. I became aware of the bike through Michel von Tell's world record. Interesting! Can I borrow a Harley like this from you for a few weeks? I would like to test how this works in everyday life.

    1. Hello Manu, depending on where you are, there are locations where this would be possible, for example in Frankfurt or Hanover. Many greetings, Volker
