HARLEY-DAVIDSON LOW RIDER S: THE NEW DIMENSION OF PERFORMANCE

HARLEY-DAVIDSON LOW RIDER S: THE NEW DIMENSION OF PERFORMANCE

The new, powerful chopper impresses with the power of its Screamin' Eagle® engine and its stripped-down style

MILWAUKEE (January 27, 2016) – The new Harley-Davidson® Low Rider® S brings Screamin' Eagle® performance and dark custom styling into a fascinating synthesis and opens up new perspectives in Harley-Davidson® factory customization.

Following the recently introduced Fat Boy® S and Softail Slim® S, the new Low Rider® S the third Harley-Davidson® model with an “S” in its name. This letter indicates that the machines are powered by 110 cubic inch (1801 cubic centimeters) air-cooled Harley-Davidson engines, which guarantee outstanding driving performance. A chassis equipped with high-quality components and a third disc brake complete the performance package. This is complemented by a style inspired by the international custom scene, which Harley-Davidson once again brings to the point with the new Low Rider® S.

“Customers have repeatedly asked us when Harley-Davidson will build another bike in the style of the legendary FXR® series,” explains Harley-Davidson Styling Director Brad Richards. “Here is our answer. The Low Rider S follows the current “tall bike” custom trend while maintaining our own heritage. It defines Harley-Davidson performance in the tradition of the classic FXR models for a new generation of riders and combines outstanding power and agile handling in a machine reduced to the essentials.”

At the heart of this machine is the Screamin' Eagle ® Twin Cam 110 , the largest displacement engine Harley-Davidson offers. Equipped with a Screamin' Eagle® Heavy Breather air filter kit and a 2-into-2 exhaust system similar to that of the Fat Bob, this V-twin develops 156 Nm of torque at 3500 rpm - 30 Newton meters more than that conventionally equipped low riders have to offer. A reinforced clutch transmits this power to the Cruise Drive® six-speed transmission. The entire drivetrain and exhaust system are finished in a combination of gloss black paint and Black Wrinkle powder coating. An electronic throttle grip and an electronic cruise control system are standard.

The chassis of the Low Rider S is in no way inferior to the engine in terms of performance. “Premium Ride” struts with gas pressure shock absorbers and a “Premium Ride” cartridge telescopic fork ensure first-class driving behavior and a high level of comfort. The telescopic fork and shock absorbers react sensitively and ensure that the tires never lose contact with the road. Three disc brakes - the two front ones with floating brake discs - and the Harley-Davidson anti-lock braking system ensure safe deceleration at all times. A new solo seat positioned 676 millimeters above the asphalt, a flat drag bar handlebar on 5.5-inch-high risers and centrally placed footrests offer the right seating position to fully enjoy the bike's dynamics. The new handlebar cover, which is one of the distinctive features of the new Low Rider S, serves both the look and the performance.

“Anyone who rides quickly in an upright sitting position is happy about subtle protection from the wind,” explains Harley-Davidson Senior Stylist Dais Nagao. “The design of the fairing and headlights also gives the Low Rider S an aggressive face that clearly indicates the character of this machine.” The solo seat and the short rear fender underline the clear and straightforward design. Harley-Davidson offers the Low Rider S exclusively in Vivid Black paint – another clear statement. Numerous components, from the fork to the tank console to the fender struts, are also finished in black. An exception are the new cast light alloy wheels in Magnum Gold. This fascinating tone is reminiscent of the gold-colored magnesium wheels that were used on many racing vehicles in the 1960s. A gold tank emblem pays tribute to the 1977 XLCR Cafe Racer.
