Harley-Davidson CVO Street Glide, CVO Road Glide and CVO Road Glide ST – Touring vs Performance

Three power excavators in comparison

Harley-Davidson is bringing around 150 more CVO Road Glide ST models to the DACH region in the fourth quarter. Some have already been sold and delivered, as I have already seen with some HD dealers on Facebook.

One more reason to take a look at the current CVO Grand American Touring models!

With the new CVO Street Glide and CVO Road Glide models as well as the sporty CVO Road Glide ST, Harley-Davidson has launched three unique bikes that redefine the brand's touring segment. These machines combine impressive performance, advanced technology and iconic design - perfect for riders who value performance and comfort in equal measure. But each of these machines offers its own special advantages. While the CVO Street Glide and CVO Road Glide are designed for touring and comfort, the CVO Road Glide ST stands for sporty power and uncompromising performance.

CVO Road Glide ST 121
CVO Road Glide ST 121

CVO Road Glide ST 121 – The athlete among the CVO models

The CVO Road Glide ST 121 is the sportiest variant in the CVO lineup. Inspired by the Screamin' Eagle Factory Team racing machines that compete in the MotoAmerica King of the Baggers Championship, this machine is designed for adrenaline junkies who want to experience speed and agility at the highest level. With its Milwaukee-Eight 121 High Output (HO) engine, the CVO Road Glide ST brings a whopping 128 hp and a maximum torque of 193 Nm to the road.

CVO Road Glide ST Raven Metallic

ROKKERTECH STRAIGHT AAA

A special highlight of this engine is the ability to maintain the maximum speed of 5,900 rpm for 25 seconds, making the machine ideal for quarter-mile racing. In combination with the 30-tooth timing belt pulley and a shortened gear ratio, the engine ensures explosive acceleration and impressive pulling power in the medium speed range. This machine is aimed at riders who are looking for a kick from the basement on every tour.

What makes the CVO Road Glide ST special?

In addition to the powerful engine, the CVO Road Glide ST stands out with its sporty design. The lack of rear speakers and the uncompromising single-seater configuration make it a pure performance bike. With carbon applications, adjustable Showa chassis and Brembo wave brake discs, the machine offers excellent braking performance and control, even at high speeds. The wavy shape of the discs improves heat dissipation and reduces the risk of brake fade, while the lighter weight of the discs ensures more agile handling.

CVO Street Glide and CVO Road Glide

In comparison, the CVO Street Glide and CVO Road Glide offer a perfect blend of comfort and performance. Both models are also powered by the Milwaukee-Eight VVT 121 engine, which is designed for consistent power delivery and efficiency. With a torque of 183 Nm and variable valve timing (VVT), they offer smoother yet powerful acceleration and more comfort on long tours.

These machines are ideal for riders who want a relaxed, comfortable tour without sacrificing power and modern technology. The CVO Street Glide's Batwing fairing and CVO Road Glide's Sharknose fairing each offer different aerodynamic benefits, while the new Skyline OS infotainment system with a 12.3-inch TFT touchscreen provides comprehensive connectivity and information.

Conclusion: CVO Road Glide ST, CVO Street Glide and CVO Road Glide in comparison

Three dream bikes with different focuses

After 5,500 kilometers on the CVO Street Glide last year and 16,000 kilometers on the CVO Road Glide this year, I can say that Harley-Davidson has put some really great machines on the wheels here. I can absolutely recommend the touring capabilities of the two CVO models. In addition to the new Skyline OS cockpit, I am always fascinated by the rain mode, which Harley-Davidson has introduced on the large tourers since 2020 and which is now available in other models.
Regardless of whether you prefer the sporty performance of the CVO Road Glide ST or are looking for the comfort and relaxed cruising of the CVO Street Glide and CVO Road Glide - if the economic aspect is not a hurdle, there is a suitable model for every driving style.

Paintwork – price vs. individuality for the CVO models

It's not an easy decision, but ultimately it comes down to your driving priorities and how much money you want to spend on a CVO-worthy paint job. Palladium Silver and Copperhead are not particularly spectacular for CVO models, but ensure that the price starts at €46,595 ex works (as of 10/24).
If the paintwork can be more elaborate and eye-catching, it's worth taking a look at Whiskey Neat from 2023 or the 25th-Anniversary CVO Legendary Orange paintwork from 2024 - although you have to ignore the hefty surcharge of €7,140.

Things look a little different with the CVO Road Glide ST: For €46,995 ex works, you get the elegant Raven Metallic or the shimmering Golden White Pearl - both really beautiful CVO paint finishes.

Potential for improvement – Missing zoom function in navigation

HARLEY-DAVIDSON CVO GRAND AMERICAN TOURING 2024 7
Harley-Davidson CVO Skyline OS Navigation

However, there is one aspect that still has room for improvement: despite the advanced technology, a zoom function is still missing in the navigation. This function would be very helpful, especially on long tours or in confusing areas, in order to keep a better eye on the route. Hopefully Harley-Davidson will add this feature in future updates as it would significantly improve usability.
However, you have to decide for yourself if one of the bikes is available to you - but as I said: it won't be easy.

Harley Davidson Breakout 117

Traction control is standard on the Breakout 117 in the 2024 model year.

The new Breakout 117 has had traction control installed as standard this year.

Harley-Davidson is once again focusing on safety and driving stability, especially with powerful models like the Breakout. In addition to the anti-lock braking system, traction control is now one of the standard assistance systems that ensure an even safer driving experience. On a Harley, which already builds up a lot of pressure with 168 Nm at 3,500 rpm, traction control is a useful support, especially in wet road conditions.

Test drive with the Breakout 117! Traction control in practical testing

During my test drive I was able to take a closer look at the character of the Breakout - in particular when the traction control really intervenes and whether you have the feeling that the machine is perhaps being controlled too much. But don't worry: The Breakout remains untamed. Of course, you still have to be a little careful on wet asphalt when you go straight to full throttle.

But as soon as the traction control registers that the tire is spinning, it intervenes pretty perfectly without the driver noticing a noticeable loss of performance. She just keeps going like the road is dry.

In my YouTube video you can get an impression of how I turned the throttle properly :-). If you want to drive without traction control from time to time, you can deactivate it using the switch on the dashboard.”

The new traction control of the Breakout 117video

During my test ride last year, when I was riding the Atlas silver-colored Breakout, I was able to see how good the saddle on this machine is. I assume that you can easily cover longer distances with it. That's probably why Harley-Davidson thought: we'll also give the Breakout 117 cruise control.

Harley-Davidson Münsterland

Modern features and practical details for maximum performance and comfort

In addition, the Breakout 117 impresses with modern features such as a digital speedometer with LCD display in the handlebar clamp, LED headlights, electronic cruise control and a USB port. Practical details such as an immobilizer, keyless ignition and a remaining range display are also on board.

Visually, the model impresses with forward footrests and a removable pillion seat. The self-resetting indicators and the LED combination indicators at the rear complete the package. The integrated hazard warning lights ensure even more safety, while a connection for the battery charger increases convenience in everyday life.

New colors and standard cruise control for even more driving fun

The Breakout 117 is available in several attractive colors: Billiard Gray, Vivid Black, White Onyx Pearl, Alpine Green and Blue Burst. Each of these colors gives the motorcycle its own touch and makes it a real eye-catcher on the road.

The Breakout 117 also now has cruise control as standard, which makes longer journeys even more relaxing. This electronic cruise control system is ideal for tours where you want to keep the speed constant without having to constantly turn the throttle. Not only is it comfortable, but it's another example of how Harley-Davidson equips the Breakout 117 with modern technologies to optimize the riding experience.

NEW HARLEY-DAVIDSON ICONS AND ENTHUSIAST MODELS 2024

HARLEY-DAVIDSON PRESENTS THE ICONS AND
ENTHUSIAST MOTORCYCLE COLLECTIONS FOR 2024

The strictly limited Hydra-Glide Revival and the Tobacco Fade models celebrate their premiere at Daytona Bike Week

FRANKFURT (02/29/2024) - Curtain up: Harley-Davidson unveils the latest models in the Icons Motorcycle Collection and the Enthusiast Motorcycle Collection with elegant graphics and impressive special paintwork that are applied using sophisticated technology. Daytona Bike Week from March 2nd to 9th in the Harley-Davidson Event Display Area at Daytona International Speedway and can now be ordered from HD dealers. However, if you want to own one of the motorcycles in the future, you should hurry up, as both collections are strictly limited and the bikes will be correspondingly rare.

Inspiration for the Icons model was also provided by the look of the machines driven in the American feature film The Bikeriders. It takes place in the 1960s, tells the story of the rise of a motorcycle club in the American Midwest from the perspective of the members and is scheduled to come to our cinemas in July 2024.

2023 House Of Thunder Harley-Davidson Lübeck

The Hydra-Glide Revival from the Harley-Davidson Icons Motorcycle Collection

The Hydra-Glide Revival, the fourth model in the Harley-Davidson Icons Motorcycle Collection, will be released in 2024. Their look is a nod to the classic Hydra-Glide types – those models from the E and F series on which Harley-Davidson introduced the telescopic fork 75 years ago. Starting in 1949, they helped make exploring the United States on interstate highways even more convenient. The 2024 Hydra-Glide Revival also promises freedom and adventure of its own, which is visually influenced by this long-gone era and at the same time offers the technology, comfort and equipment of a modern Harley-Davidson.

As part of the Icons Motorcycle Collection, the Motor Company presents a strictly limited edition model once a year that pays homage to a classic Harley-Davidson. Each individual machine in the collection is numbered and is only manufactured in the year in which it was released. Only 1,750 units of the new Hydra-Glide Revival will be manufactured and will soon be available from HD dealers.

Exclusive styling

The Hydra-Glide Revival is painted in special Redline Red and the sides of its tank are painted Birch White - a look consistent with the 1956 models. The harmonious details include the Hydra-Glide lettering on the front fender as well as chrome-plated tank badges with the Harley-Davidson V lettering, the style of which is inspired by the tank badges from 1955 and 1956. In addition, the Hydra-Glide Revival Insert on the handlebar riser and the Icons Motorcycle Collection graphics on the rear fender make the strictly limited model unmistakable.

The Harley-Davidson speedometers from 1954 and 1955 served as a model for the speedometer dial and the lower part of the 53.3 cm high disc was colored in Redline Red. A round air filter and wire-spoke wheels underline the nostalgic look. They are also chrome-plated, as are the fender strips, the crash bars, the fork covers, the engine and the exhaust system.

The solo saddle is equipped with a leather valance decorated with fringes, chrome rivets, white piping with red contrasting stitching, chrome-plated conchos with a border and a center made of red acrylic and spanned by a chrome-plated railing. The leather tank strap is in the same style. Rivets, leather fringes, conchos and piping with contrast stitching also decorate the leather and vinyl saddlebags. Their surfaces are water-repellent and they have safety locks and sturdy case shells so that they retain their shape even after years of use.

Nostalgic look, modern performance

The Milwaukee-Eight 114, which the Motor Company equips with a Screamin' Eagle high-flow air filter for superior performance, guarantees befitting propulsion. Thanks to the Softail chassis, the shock absorber is not visible under the seat. This preserves the classic hardtail look while ensuring dynamic handling and a high level of comfort. If desired, an electronic cruise control keeps the speed constant, an LED headlight with additional lights illuminates the road in an exemplary manner and the anti-lock braking system guarantees added safety.

The Tobacco Fade Enthusiast Motorcycle Collection
The Tobacco Fade Enthusiast Motorcycle Collection

The Tobacco Fade Enthusiast Motorcycle Collection

The rhythm of the V-Twin hits real Harley fans right in the heart just as much as the beat of rock 'n' roll. It is this burst of collective energy during live acts in a club, at a motorcycle rally or at the Harley-Davidson Homecoming Festival that provided the inspiration for the Tobacco Fade Enthusiast Motorcycle Collection. With their classic sunburst finish, electric guitars and basses from the 1960s served as the model for the Tobacco Fade finish and graphics - a look that will delight music fans.

The machines in the Enthusiast Motorcycle Collection are strictly limited, a sign of appreciation for Harley-Davidson fans and inspired by the stories of the petrolheads. The current collection is available in just three models, of which no more than 2,000 units are produced each.

Tobacco Fade's color gradient is created in state-of-the-art precision painting systems. Rich, caramel-colored pinstripes accentuate the color of the shiny metallic gold areas beyond the sunburst fade areas. The tank emblem is reminiscent of the shape and grooves of a vinyl record, while the logo on the front fender is designed like a guitar pick. The logos of rock bands and instruments served as inspiration, which is also reflected in the lettering.

The Tobacco Fade Enthusiast Motorcycle Collection includes:

Low Rider ST

The Low Rider ST is powered by the particularly powerful Milwaukee-Eight 117 and has a clean West Coast style. Two suitcases hold the luggage and the frame-mounted panel protects against the wind.

Ultra Limited

With its classic batwing fairing, a powerful infotainment and audio system, two suitcases and a Tour-Pak with luggage rack, the Ultra Limited offers driver and passenger uncompromising comfort.

Tri Glide Ultra

The trike offers ideal conditions for long distances. The batwing fairing, the large trunk, a Tour-Pak and two extremely comfortable seats including back and armrests for the pillion passenger all contribute to this.

All technical features of the three models are identical to those of the 2024 models on which they are based.

Special styling features for all models

– Premium paint finish in Tobacco Fade

– Vinyl inspired tank medallion

– Stylized guitar pick logo on the front fender

– Enthusiast Motorcycle Collection logo on the Tour-Pak luggage rack or rear fender

CVO ROAD GLIDE ST 121 HARLEY DAVIDSON 2024
CVO ROAD GLIDE ST 2024 | FIRST IMPRESSION

My first impression of the new CVO Road Glide ST 2024

I took a closer look at the thing and let me say one thing in advance: This thing is absolutely awesome. But – and here it comes – there is a big catch. For everyone who's freaking out and thinking this is the Holy Grail they've been waiting for forever: You'll hardly be able to find them in our corner.

CVO ROAD GLIDE ST 2024 | FIRST IMPRESSION 38
CVO ROAD GLIDE ST 2024 | FIRST IMPRESSION 104

I go to have a look at them

That was the reason why I made the long journey to have a look at this special Harley. Unfortunately it was still offline, meaning I couldn't launch it to listen to the sound, but at least I was able to watch it. In front of me is a CVO Road Glide ST, in Golden White Pearl. Even in the hall where I am, you can see the golden shimmer in the paint.

The paint job is truly a CVO worthy masterpiece to speak of. With the CVO in Palladium Silver, I personally found that the paintwork came across as comparatively sober for a CVO, even though I eventually got used to it. With the Golden White Pearl, they gave it their all.

My first impression of the CVO Road Glide ST on YouTube

Carbon has found its way into the CVO ST

The first impression of the new CVO is simply impressive - this model has been intensively worked with carbon and lightweight composite materials, which not only gives it an aesthetically pleasing appearance, but also takes the visual performance to a whole new level.

Innovation meets sound

Harley-Davidson has integrated a state-of-the-art infotainment system with an impressive 12.3-inch TFT monitor into the new CVO. The sound system has a whopping 500 watts, but unlike other newer CVO models, the two speakers are no longer in the cases.

Instead, the ST has two speakers installed that direct their powerful sound from the front panel towards the driver. The result? The CVO ST is now a few kilos lighter at the rear - no wonder, because the large magnets in the speakers are anything but lightweight. In addition, there is now 0.7 cubic centimeters more volume available in the case.

Harley-Davidson sets new standards with the CVO Road Glide ST

With the new CVO Road Glide ST, Harley-Davidson is bringing an engine onto the road that, with a displacement of 121 cubic centimeters and an impressive 128 hp, knows absolutely no compromises. This engine does not rely on the variable valve timing (VVT) used in other new CVO models, but stands out with a camshaft position sensor and a camshaft specifically designed for sport performance.

The ability to accelerate the engine to an impressive 5900 revolutions for around 25 seconds underlines the exceptional performance potential of the CVO ST. This bike is not only a visual eye-catcher, but also a powerful piece of sports equipment that is ready to shake up the excavator racing scene.

The CVO Road Glide ST is not just beautiful to look at!

The new CVO Road Glide ST is not just something to look at! The 121 cc engine with its 128 horses is not a tame kitten. No VVT? No problem! This beast has other tricks up its sleeve. With the camshaft position sensor and the ability to escalate up to 5900 rpm for a short time, the CVO ST shows that it will cut a fine figure not only on the road but also on the racetrack. It also has the specially configurable driving modes Track Mode and Track Plus Mode. Just think of the Bagger Race races – this bike is made for it.

Pure power with up to a maximum of 5900 rpm.
Pure power with up to a maximum of 5900 rpm.

Camshaft position sensor

The camshaft position sensor can also be found in other Harley-Davidson models, here is a short excursion into the technical world of the sensor.

  • Ignition control: The sensor allows the engine control unit (ECU) to determine the exact time at which ignition should occur. This is crucial for optimal engine performance and fuel efficiency. By precisely matching the ignition timing to the engine load and current speed, the engine can run more efficiently and smoothly.
  • Fuel injection control: In addition to ignition, the camshaft position sensor also influences the timing and duration of fuel injection. The ECU uses the data from the sensor to adjust the injection so that it occurs at the perfect moment and in the right amount, resulting in better combustion and therefore greater efficiency.
  • Improving engine performance: Precise control of ignition and fuel injection allows the engine to optimize its power and torque over a wider speed range. This results in better engine response, increased power and improved overall driving performance.

The CVO Road Glide ST is already a rarity!

You'll probably see her in our corner as rarely as a unicorn at the hairdresser. That's the big catch I was talking about. It's a shame, because it would be nice to see such a cool device on the streets more often.

The new Street Glide and Road Glide feature exceptional performance, impressive innovation and a refreshing new design.

In keeping with the 25th anniversary of Custom Vehicle Operations, HD presents the new CVO Road Glide ST with hot bag performance and the new, fully equipped CVO Pan America for adventure.

FRANKFURT (01/24/2024) - For 2024, the Motor Company is introducing four new models that mark the beginning of a new era in terms of touring performance, technology and design. The new Street Glide and Road Glide with the optimized Milwaukee-Eight 117 are more powerful, more comfortable and lighter than their predecessors.

They feature the most advanced technology, including a new infotainment system, as well as an impressive new design. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of Custom Vehicle Operations, the new CVO Road Glide ST hot rod bagger performance to a new level. It is equipped with a racing-inspired high-performance chassis and a matching braking system and is powered by the powerful new Milwaukee-Eight 121 High Output.

This drives the rear wheel via a short secondary gear ratio and ensures impressive acceleration and energetic pressure in the medium speed range, which puts a grin on the face of ambitious drivers. CVO Pan America debuts . It is the first CVO in the adventure touring segment to come onto the market in an exclusive special paint finish and with extensive equipment that leaves nothing to be desired.

The new machines will soon be available from HD dealers.

“These impressive models represent a new era for Harley-Davidson. Their performance and technology, their comfort and style are at a new level in every respect,” explains Jochen Zeitz, Chairman, President and CEO of Harley-Davidson. “Without a doubt, these are the most enticing machines Harley-Davidson has ever offered.”

STREET GLIDE AND ROAD GLIDE

The new Street Glide and Road Glide models

The 2024 Street Glide and Road Glide are stronger, lighter and more dynamic than their predecessors. From the front fender to the cases, they are characterized by a new look with particularly energetic lines. Both feature completely redesigned fairings that, on the one hand, look refreshingly modern and, on the other hand, correspond to the familiar design DNA of Harley-Davidson.

The other features:

  • The optimized Milwaukee-Eight 117 V-Twin features a new cooling system that increases thermal comfort for the driver, as well as improved flow conditions in the intake and exhaust areas, which benefits performance.
  • The selectable driving modes Road, Sport, Rain and Custom electronically control the performance characteristics of the engine and the intensity with which the assistance systems intervene.
  • Skyline OS forms the basis of the infotainment technology and a 12.3-inch TFT color touchscreen replaces all analog instruments and most switches. The two speaker systems mounted in the fairing are powered by a new audio amplifier that produces 200 W.
  • The improved aerodynamics increase comfort for the rider and reduce turbulence in the helmet area at higher speeds. The chassis components with 76 mm of suspension travel at the rear, a redesigned, one-piece seat shape and new upholstery materials lead to a significant improvement in long-distance comfort in most cases.

CVO ROAD GLIDE ST

The new CVO Road Glide ST is the spearhead of the 2024 CVO models

The CVO Road Glide ST is the most dynamic and sophisticated performance bagger Harley-Davidson has ever made. It has numerous features that arouse enthusiasm among performance-oriented drivers. The deep solo seat and 6" high riser combined with the moto handlebars ensure an engaging seating position in West Coast Custom style. The other features:

  • The customer has the choice between two premium paint finishes: Golden White Pearl and Raven Metallic. The Screamin' Eagle graphics on the fairing sides and fuel tank are inspired by the SE Harley-Davidson Factory Race Bikes that compete in the MotoAmerica King of the Baggers racing series. 25 years of Custom Vehicle Operations (CVO) at Harley-Davidson are also honored with 25th Anniversary Graphics.
  • The Milwaukee-Eight 121 High Output V-Twin was developed exclusively for the CVO Road Glide ST, produces 128 hp (94 kW) and produces 193 Nm - the highest power and torque ever from a factory-offered engine achieved with a street-legal Harley-Davidson. A short secondary gear ratio makes the acceleration in each gear even more emphatic.
  • The use of lightweight materials reduces the dry weight to 363 kg. A Screamin' Eagle titanium exhaust system with carbon fiber end caps contributes to this, as do the front fender, the seat hump and the tank console made of carbon fiber material as well as the oil pan made of lightweight composite material. In addition, the design of the wheels and the front brake discs in wave style minimize the unsprung masses.
  • The front wheel is guided by a 47 mm upside-down fork, while at the rear there are two emulsion shock absorbers with external expansion tanks. The suspension components are from Showa and are fully adjustable.
  • High-quality brake components from Brembo are responsible for the powerful and perfectly controlled deceleration.
  • The selectable driving modes – Road, Sport, Rain, Track as well as Track Plus and other custom modes – electronically determine the ratio of power delivery and engine braking torque as well as the intensity of the assistance system interventions.
  • Skyline OS is the basis of infotainment technology. A color touchscreen eliminates the need for all analog instruments and most switches. The premium audio system includes a 500W amplifier that powers two 6.5-inch HD Audio powered by Rockford Fosgate Stage II speaker systems in the fairing.
