Now the adventure begins with the Harley-Davidson Pan America Special
Yes, I know, the Harley-Davidson Pan America Special is coming at the end of the season, unfortunately there was no other way to do that this year. It is the highlight at Harley-Davidson this year and interest is generally very high. I received a lot of questions about the new adventure bike back in the spring. Luckily, I rode it off-road before the season and was able to get a first impression.

I'm traveling with the standard aluminum rims. The engine has variable valve timing, which is the key to agility, it revs enormously and can still be driven in the lower range without stuttering.
It is interesting to find out how performance affects consumption. Performance usually also costs fuel, so let's see how it performs in this area.
The unusual Pan America trip takes the car train from Hamburg to Lörrach
The first trip is a bit unusual for me, I usually do my tours on my own, but because it's just right and I've had several questions about the car train Hamburg on Friday evening , to try this out.
Lörrach is located on the Rhine and near Basel, actually ideal for taking a detour into the mountains. The plan is to drive along the Rhine on the German side towards St. Anton am Arlberg. But that can still change, this whole campaign has been fired from the gun, the car train is about to go into winter break and so this is the last opportunity this year to try it out. Next year there will be a new sleeping car that I will be able to test on the return journey; it will only be attached once for the crossing this year.
Why ride your motorcycle on the car train?
I've never done it myself, some of my friends went on vacation like that years ago. The advantage is obvious: you can save yourself the journey from the north to the south via the motorway. Unfortunately, it's becoming less and less fun and a train ride with your friends can be quite fun, or you can just travel alone, in any case it's more relaxing.

Cornering lights, LEDs and a 6.8-inch TFT display and adjustable driving modes are standard in the Special Version.
The high touring screen can be adjusted in inclination with one hand. The navigation works in combination with a cell phone and the Harley-Davidson APP
The trip starts in Hamburg Altona in the evening and continues overnight to Lörrach. The next morning you can start your tour well rested, that would be the plan. And my plan now looks exactly like this. You can follow all further information here in the blog, in the Harleysite APP and on the Harleysite Facebook page . I heard that there would be a bunch of motorcyclists on my trip, all brands are represented, but there are no Harleys, I have to check that first to see what that could have something to do with :)
The Harley-Davidson Pan America Special 1250
I will be riding the Harley-Davidson Pan America Special 1250 in Gauntlet Gray Metallic (extra charge €270). The Special Version has a very extensive standard equipment, heated grips, a semi-active chassis that adapts to the total weight, which is particularly useful when carrying a load or when driving with a passenger. The highlight is the lowerable chassis, so you always have a secure footing when you stop. Now the task is to find out how all this works in everyday life.
