Harley-Davidson prices remain stable for the time being!

According to the latest information from the FAZ, Harley-Davidson does not want to pass on the punitive tariffs imposed by the EU on US motorcycles to its customers. Christian Arnezeder is the Harley-Davidson Managing Director for Central Europe and has reported in the FAZ Saturday edition that no new price list for end customers will appear on July 1, 2018, as long as they can deliver.

Harley-Davidson wants to remain attractively priced for its end customers, not forgetting the strong dealer network with 112 Harley dealers in Europe, which might otherwise be jeopardized. It remains to be seen what the situation will be for the 2019 models that will be presented in mid-August. In the last few weeks, many people have been quick to order their new Harley-Davidson, which can quickly lead to a supply bottleneck for some models, so those who bought in good time were well advised. Unfortunately, Harley-Davidson is doubly affected because the raw materials imported into the USA are subject to punitive tariffs on the US side, which is also an additional cost factor.

Unfortunately, this is not a good development, and whether this is the right way forward is also debatable. Trump has threatened to impose 20% tariffs on all imported passenger cars in the USA, many manufacturers already produce in the USA, especially in this industry unequal tariffs are levied, so US vehicles are taxed higher when imported into the EU than when European vehicles are imported into the USA. They will have to come to an agreement somewhere and at some point!
