Pan America accessories!

Now comes the first information about the Pan America model year 2023!

Right at the market launch, Harley-Davidson its own Pan America accessories . The Pan America Adventure Bike from Harley-Davidson has been on the market since 2021. It's time to look around and see who among the manufacturers is interested in the well-off Harley-Davidson clientele and can shine with a good product range for the Pan America.

Before we refer to the providers of other accessories, a few general words about Pan America.

If you look back over the last 1 1/2 years, you can really say that Harley-Davidson has done a good job with the Pan America. I am still of the opinion that the target group lies less with the largest competitor, BMW.

I know a lot of Harley riders who have got the Pan America as an additional bike in their garage, and they are often older bikers, which is surprising at first. In the second moment you notice that some of them are very sporty guys who are just up for something like that.

Who are the customers for Pan America?

There are certainly some new customers from the Yamaha camp, because it doesn't look like Yamaha is placing a 1200 Supertenere in Germany at the moment and if you want displacement with plenty of power, the Pan America definitely on your shortlist.

In addition, many Harley-Davidson dealers, salespeople and employees are electrified and after Harley-Davidson delivered the Quickshifter (automatic shifter) for many other interested parties in the 2022 model year, it was initially hard to get. By September the situation will be back to normal and anyone who wants one now will almost certainly be able to get one from their authorized Harley dealer.

The Pan America was not spared from teething problems

When it comes to teething problems it was a bit strange, it's clear, there's always something and basically you'll find it with every manufacturer. The Pan America had software problems with some models, anyone who was affected really had a problem. If it had been a component, the matter is quickly clear, but with software it becomes complicated when it only affects individual models and they are all actually supplied with the same software.

One solution lies in the operation; when starting up the software or starting it from a cold start, you have to give it time until everything is loaded and only then start the engine. If you are too hectic, you may have to expect that the system will not be fully loaded and that a warning light will light up if it starts at all. I had this problem once when I was still in the learning phase, but it was quickly resolved with a restart. You have a 2-year manufacturer's warranty and a 2-year follow-up warranty.

Harley-Davidson Pan America 2023

According to current information, there will be no changes to the Pan America next year; according to Harleysite information, there is more likely to be a further price increase for the Pan America 2023.

In the spring I already reported on the leak about the Pan America 975 and 975S, which showed that these model names appeared in the online accessories catalog, where they have now disappeared again. In Germany, the 975 Revolution Max was already expected for the Pan America this year. According to current information heard on the radio, there will be no smaller engine variant on the German market in 2023 either.

This is particularly annoying for interested bikers with small driving licenses. They'll probably have to convert a Sportster Nightster into an Enduro.

The other Pan America accessories providers

It has to be said that some well-known companies have jumped on the Pan America bandwagon. Hepco & Becker has long been known for its luggage systems and also has some accessories for the Pan America in its range.

This includes a side stand plate made of aluminum, the enlarged standing area is particularly suitable for the terrain or soft ground. Also for tough use, there is a powder-coated handle guard made of solid tubular steel, which is mounted in front of the standard handle guard. A stainless steel heat shield and of course various pannier rack systems for the Pan America.

K&M Harleyworld has special holders for TomTom and Garmin

The Harley-Davidson authorized dealer Hämmerle in Allgäu , for example, is one of the Harley-Davidson authorized dealers who are fully involved in the Pan America matter. He had some parts developed for the models himself, including cases and special holders for TomTom Rider and the Garmin XT Zumo.

MRA Vario Touring Screen and Disc

MRA is particularly specialized in windows and spoilers . Upon request from MRA, development has already been completed and a production date is expected shortly - as of August 23, 2022. This is for the information of those who would like to use this manufacturer. Anyone who has already had good experiences with them when it comes to windows or spoilers will be happy to know that there is also something in the pipeline for the Pan America.

Lowering kit from MIZU

MIZU has a lowering for the Pan America with ABE in its program. This means you can lower the Pan America by 25mm to get a little closer to a secure position.

SW-MOTECH accessories for the Pan America

SW-MOTECH has listed an extensive range of accessories for the Pan America. The manufacturer of motorcycle accessories is a leader in the field of tank bags, bags, suitcases and other attachments that are intended to protect the Harley-Davidson adventure bike. SW-MOTECH is the official supplier for the large ALU cases with the Harley-Davidson brand, which can only be purchased through authorized Harley-Davidson dealers.

Jekill & Hyde Harley Davidson

However, you have to look for something in the online shop, they don't really have it. When I “Pan America” , I see 32 matching products, but that’s not really all of them. For example, you have a “ PRO Cross WP strap tank bag. 5.5 l, with strap holder and waterproof” in the program, it is not shown there. If I go directly to the item and do a bike check, the customer will see, as in the screenshot, that the item fits the Pan America.

So they have more on offer than you might think at first glance. You have to know what you want and then check the article to see whether it fits.

TOURATECH – professional for luggage systems

TOURATECH currently has around 27 parts for the Pan America in its accessories range if you use the direct search. Unfortunately, the Pan America has not yet made it onto the homepage at TOURATECH, so you have to make the selection in the box a little less conveniently and select the “RA 1250 Pan America” in order to get to the ones you want Parts to come. That's a big minus!

The professional for case systems and many other detailed solutions has been in the motorcycle accessories business since 1990 and has made a good name for himself. It's worth taking a look at products such as the folding mirrors with extensions; you can adjust their length, which can play a role when you have a large load, for example, in order to continue to have a good view to the rear.

TOURATECH has many protectors on offer, for the front suspension struts, or protection for the brake fluid reservoir, which is actually very inconveniently installed on the Pan America along with the lines. In addition to the stainless steel manifold protection, the GPS mounting adapter is a good idea for installing an additional GPS system or roadbook above the instrument unit. All in all a very extensive offer, unfortunately as a Harley fan you have to search a little longer to get to your destination.

Wunderlich Adventure – recommendation!

A great Pan America website welcomes the customer

When you Wunderlich Adventure website, your heart immediately opens. Here the visitor immediately gets the feeling that they really take Pan America customers seriously. An absolutely perfect website, here you are taken directly to the respective model, you first make the choice between the Standard and the Special.

I would now like to be able to switch to the block view instead of the list view in the desktop view, but that is complaining at a high level.

Wunderlich Adventure Pan America
Wunderlich Adventure Pan America

The beginnings at Wunderlich were at the end of the 80s. Before my Harley days, I bought the first parts for my XT 600 from Wunderlich. At that time, Yamaha was still popular at Wunderlich, before they specialized in the BMW product range .

The Wunderlich Parts for the Pan America

The offer for Pan America is really well rounded and superior. The first thing I notice is the stabilization for the raised window, that really makes sense. The original disc and this well-thought-out construction are too flimsy for me. I generally see great potential for further expansions, where the system could be expanded modularly with a construction made of aluminum or coated stainless steel.

The bench seats also look well thought out, the original ones are good, but you would like more comfort on long journeys. Depending on your height, the handlebar risers are a good investment. If your hands fall asleep, they change the pressure point on your hands. As long as the problem doesn't come from the seat, the higher risers will help.

Wunderlich has an extensive program of very good images and when you see the entire presentation of Pan America accessories , it is clear that there is more to come from Wunderlich.

For the Pan America fan, this site is one of the favorites.

If you have any further tips about other providers in the Pan America area, please feel free to leave the information in the comments.

Now that Harley-Davidson can deliver again, there is naturally more movement in things. It's good if accessory manufacturers don't just leave this market to the manufacturer and remain committed to developing great parts. Let's hope for many more innovative ideas that will round off the Pan America Adventure even more.

The differences between the Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 Standard and Special 2022

The appearance of the Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 was truly a success for Harley-Davidson in 2021. I was a guest at Harley-Davidson Bremen-Stuhr and spoke to Malte Kreke in great detail about the two Pan America models, Standard and Special. Where exactly are the differences between the versions and what you as a customer should pay attention to if you want to decide between the Standard and Special.

Important tips for the big tour!

There are a few tips on what you should pay attention to, for example when it comes to the power supply and how exactly it works with the Adaptive Ride Height (AHR) chassis. Who needs a lot of power for external devices and why with the AHR chassis you only need to worry little about the chassis settings.

I hope the effort was worth it and we were able to give you some helpful information.

Mallorca Bike Week 2022

Many thanks at this point to Malte Kreke and Steffen Börjes from Harley-Davidson Bremen-Stuhr for their support with the video.

Now the adventure begins with the Harley-Davidson Pan America Special

Yes, I know, the Harley-Davidson Pan America Special is coming at the end of the season, unfortunately there was no other way to do that this year. It is the highlight at Harley-Davidson this year and interest is generally very high. I received a lot of questions about the new adventure bike back in the spring. Luckily, I rode it off-road before the season and was able to get a first impression.

I'm traveling with the standard aluminum rims. The engine has variable valve timing, which is the key to agility, it revs enormously and can still be driven in the lower range without stuttering.
It is interesting to find out how performance affects consumption. Performance usually also costs fuel, so let's see how it performs in this area.

The unusual Pan America trip takes the car train from Hamburg to Lörrach

The first trip is a bit unusual for me, I usually do my tours on my own, but because it's just right and I've had several questions about the car train, especially during the European Bike Week, I'm taking the car train from Hamburg to Lörrach on Friday evening, to try this out.

Lörrach is located on the Rhine and near Basel, actually ideal for taking a detour into the mountains. The plan is to drive along the Rhine on the German side towards St. Anton am Arlberg. But that can still change, this whole campaign has been fired from the gun, the car train is about to go into winter break and so this is the last opportunity this year to try it out. Next year there will be a new sleeping car that I will be able to test on the return journey; it will only be attached once for the crossing this year.

Why ride your motorcycle on the car train?

I've never done it myself, some of my friends went on vacation like that years ago. The advantage is obvious: you can save yourself the journey from the north to the south via the motorway. Unfortunately, it's becoming less and less fun and a train ride with your friends can be quite fun, or you can just travel alone, in any case it's more relaxing.

Now the adventure begins with the Harley-Davidson Pan America Special 1250 13

The trip starts in Hamburg Altona in the evening and continues overnight to Lörrach. The next morning you can start your tour well rested, that would be the plan. And my plan now looks exactly like this. You can follow all further information here in the blog, in the Harleysite APP and on the Harleysite Facebook page . I heard that there would be a bunch of motorcyclists on my trip, all brands are represented, but there are no Harleys, I have to check that first to see what that could have something to do with :)

The Harley-Davidson Pan America Special 1250

I will be riding the Harley-Davidson Pan America Special 1250 in Gauntlet Gray Metallic (extra charge €270). The Special Version has a very extensive standard equipment, heated grips, a semi-active chassis that adapts to the total weight, which is particularly useful when carrying a load or when driving with a passenger. The highlight is the lowerable chassis, so you always have a secure footing when you stop. Now the task is to find out how all this works in everyday life.

Revolution Max 1250T engine, riding modes, infotainment display and cornering assistance system package from Harley-Davidson

NEW ISENBURG (July 13, 2021) - With the Sportster S, Harley-Davidson presents a brand new and powerful factory custom bike and at the same time ushers in the latest chapter in the Sportster history - with a dynamic experience on the country road and state-of-the-art technology a successful synthesis of safety and driving pleasure.

Harley-Davidson Sportster S Revolution Max
Harley-Davidson Sportster S Revolution Max

Revolution Max 1250T

The new Sportster S is powered by the Revolution Max 1250T engine, a liquid-cooled V2 that is completely tuned for power from the basement. The torque curve remains flat across the entire speed range - a beefy power delivery for dynamic acceleration from a standstill and powerful pulling power in the middle speed range.

  • Displacement: 1,252 cm³
  • Bore x Stroke: 105.0mm x 72.3mm
  • Power: 90 kW (122 HP)/7,500 rpm
  • Maximum torque: 125 Nm/6,000 rpm
  • Rotation speed: 9,500 rpm
  • Compression ratio: 12.0:1

The Revolution Max 1250T is derived from the Revolution Max 1250 engine of the Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 models, from which it differs primarily in the following features:

Harley-Davidson Sportster S Revolution Max Engine 16
Harley-Davidson Sportster S Revolution Max engine
  • Cylinder heads with smaller valves, narrower channels and a modified combustion chamber ensure increased flow speed and thus rapid gas exchange and optimal filling of the cylinder, which increases torque in the low and medium speed range between 3,000 and 6,000 rpm.
  • The new combustion chamber geometry also requires an adapted shape of the pistons.
  • Intake funnels that have been redesigned in terms of length and shape as well as the optimized volume of the airbox ensure the best possible performance across the entire usable speed range.
  • Optimized cam profiles and timing of the variable valve control also make a decisive contribution to the desired performance characteristics.

Revolution Max 1250T – Highlights

  • V2 architecture: A longitudinally installed V2 engine with a 60-degree cylinder angle is characterized by a narrow design that allows the masses to be grouped close to the center of gravity for active handling without affecting the space available for legs and feet. Two throttle bodies in a flow-efficient downdraft arrangement between the cylinders minimize turbulence and flow resistance in the intake tract.
  • Weight-optimized design: With its low weight, the engine also helps to keep the overall vehicle weight low. This benefits acceleration, agility and braking behavior as well as consumption.
  • The finite element method and modern optimization processes in engine development help to reduce the mass of cast and molded components.
  • The weight-saving design features also include one-piece light metal cylinders with galvanic nickel-silicon carbide coating.
  • The valve and primary drive covers are made of lightweight magnesium alloy.

2023 House Of Thunder Harley-Davidson Lübeck

  • Drive as a supporting chassis component: The Revolution Max 1250T is also integrated as a supporting part in the chassis of the new Sportster S.
  • The engine fulfills two functions: It serves as a drive and is also a structural element of the chassis.
  • By dispensing with a classic main frame, the chassis has a particularly low weight and extremely high torsional rigidity.
  • A front frame element, a middle segment and the rear frame are bolted directly to the engine.
  • The engine is designed to be particularly robust and rigid so that it can effectively fulfill its function as a chassis component.
  • The advantage for the driver is optimized driving characteristics thanks to significant weight savings, high torsional rigidity and masses centralized directly at the center of gravity.
  • Liquid cooling: Liquid cooling ensures a stable, controllable engine temperature for consistent performance under a wide range of environmental conditions and in all driving situations - whether in cold or warm weather, at high speed or in traffic jams, in relaxed or sporty driving. The engine oil temperature is also regulated via a cooling system, which ensures optimal lubrication and long oil change intervals even under the toughest operating conditions.
Harley-Davidson Sportster S Revolution Max engine cooling
Harley-Davidson Sportster S Revolution Max engine cooling
  • Four-valve cylinder heads: Cylinder heads with four valves each allow particularly large valve cross-sections. Harley-Davidson has optimized the gas flow through the combustion chamber to achieve the desired power delivery.
  • Dual Overhead Cams Per Cylinder (DOHC) and Variable Valve Timing (VVT): The Revolution Max 1250T features a separate intake and exhaust camshaft on each cylinder. This DOHC design allows independent, variable intake and exhaust valve timing (VVT), each optimized for the front and rear cylinders. VVT contributes to a wider usable speed range and, in addition to torque development, also improves fuel consumption. This enables powerful acceleration from low revs as well as exciting revving and high peak performance. The hydraulic valve clearance compensation contributes to the engine's low mechanical noise. At the same time, this eliminates the need for complex regular maintenance procedures, which in turn saves inspection costs.
  • Light metal forged pistons:
  • The piston crowns are milled to achieve a precise compression ratio of 12.0:1. The engine achieves its rated performance with fuel of at least 91 octane, but can also handle gasoline with a lower octane number if necessary, with the engine management using a knock sensor automatically preventing damage caused by knocking or ringing.
  • A coating on the piston skirt helps reduce frictional resistance.
  • For high performance, piston rings with low preload reduce friction.
  • The piston rings are coated for increased service life.
  • Two spray oil nozzles directed from below onto the piston crowns help dissipate the combustion heat.
  • Balancer shafts: Integrated balancer shafts help reduce engine vibrations for increased driving comfort and longevity. The balance shafts are tuned to allow just enough vibration so that the motorcycle feels alive.
  • Clutch and transmission: The engine and the six-speed transmission share a common housing in the new Revolution Max. The clutch is operated via a large cross-section Bowden cable for smooth operation with consistent separation and low friction. Their anti-hopping function prevents the engine from over-revving when downshifting and suppresses rear wheel stalling.

Sportster S: Cornering Rider Safety Enhancements

The new Sportster S is equipped with the Harley-Davidson Cornering Rider Safety Enhancements, a package of electronic assistance systems that prove helpful in difficult road conditions and dangerous situations. They are controlled electronically and are based on the latest chassis, braking and drive control technology.

The Sportster S has a sensor system (Inertial Measurement Unit, IMU), which is made up of several inertial sensors on six spatial axes and continuously measures the lean angle while driving. The curve-optimized electronic assistance systems take into account that there is less tire grip available for braking or accelerating in curves than when driving straight ahead, and adapt their control interventions accordingly.

  • Cornering Enhanced Antilock Braking System (C-ABS)

ABS prevents the wheels from locking when braking and helps the driver to maintain control during emergency braking while driving straight ahead. It controls the front and rear brakes independently of each other. The cornering anti-lock braking system (C-ABS) also includes the lean angle in this control. When cornering, not all of the traction is available to transmit the braking force. C-ABS automatically takes this into account. The integrated stoppie control (Rear-Wheel Lift Mitigation, RLM) counteracts the lifting of the rear wheel during heavy braking in order to optimally align the deceleration forces with the driver's braking commands.

ROKKERTECH STRAIGHT AAA

  • Cornering Enhanced Traction Control System (C-TCS)

The TCS traction control prevents excessive slip on the rear wheel when accelerating and thus supports the driver, especially when tire grip is limited, such as in precipitation, suddenly changing road surfaces or on unpaved roads. The C-TCS cornering traction control also takes the current lean angle into account. In the pre-programmed driving modes, the cornering traction control interventions vary in intensity. In the freely programmable driving modes, the driver can preselect the strength of the C-TCS interventions in three levels.

In addition, C-TCS can be deactivated in any driving mode when the vehicle is stationary and the engine is running. When switching to Rain mode, C-TCS is automatically reactivated, but can then be deactivated again. C-TCS can be switched off by pressing a button on the right side of the handlebar.

TCS also includes wheelie control (Front-Wheel Lift Mitigation, FLM), which limits the height and duration of a front wheel lifting when accelerating. The strength of this intervention also differs in the different driving modes, with Rain being the most restrictive mode and Sport/Off-Road having the weakest interventions. When traction control is deactivated, the FLM function is also deactivated.

  • Cornering Enhanced Drag-Torque Slip Control System (C-DSCS)

The C-DSCS cornering traction control system is used to reduce excessive slip on the rear wheel and to prevent the rear wheel from locking due to drive influences. This can otherwise occur when abruptly downshifting or closing the throttle grip on slippery roads.

If C-DSCS detects such a driving situation, it automatically adjusts the peripheral speed of the wheel to the driving speed by regulating the motor torque. The system also takes the lean angle into account.

  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

Correct tire pressure is just as important for the handling of the motorcycle as it is for the life of the tires. The tire air pressure monitoring system TPMS shows the tire pressures on the color display and warns the driver if the tire pressure is too low.

Sportster S: driving modes

The Sportster S offers five selectable driving modes that electronically regulate the driving dynamics of the machine and specify the intensity of the electronic interventions. Three of them are pre-programmed and two more can be individually adjusted. Each mode affects power delivery, engine braking, cornering ABS (C-ABS) and cornering traction control (C-TCS).

The driver can select the driving mode using the mode button on the right of the handlebar, with some exceptions both when stationary and while driving. The selected mode is indicated by a symbol on the color display.

With the exception of Road mode, the driver can deactivate the driving modes in the settings menu of the display. The freely configurable modes can only be selected during operation using the mode button once they have been activated in the Settings menu.

Harley-Davidson Sportster S Revolution Max
Harley-Davidson Sportster S Revolution Max
  • Road mode: The balanced Road mode is intended for everyday use and commuting. The engine offers a less sharp power delivery than in Sport mode, C-ABS and C-TCS intervene earlier. If a malfunction occurs, the driving mode system automatically switches to Road mode.
  • Sport mode: Sport mode offers the most unfiltered interaction between driver and machine. The rider experiences the full performance potential of the motorcycle directly and with the highest precision, with unlimited peak performance and all the revving pleasure. C-TCS works at the lowest level that is still sensible for road use and with increased engine braking effect when coasting.
  • Rain Mode: This mode is designed for rain or otherwise reduced traction. This makes it ideal for riders who are still getting familiar with the motorcycle. Revving speed and power are significantly reduced in favor of manageable acceleration, as is the engine braking effect, while C-ABS and C-TCS work at the highest level.
  • Custom mode: The Sportster S offers two freely programmable driving modes that allow the driver to configure characteristics specifically tailored to their personal preferences or situations. Within certain limits, the driver can set the engine characteristics, engine braking effect and revving as desired, as well as the intensity of the C-TCS and C-ABS interventions. For example, it is possible to combine the powerful power delivery of Sport mode with a reduced engine braking effect.

NEW ISENBURG (July 13, 2021) - With the Sportster S, Harley-Davidson presents a brand new factory custom bike with inspiring performance and at the same time ushers in the latest chapter in the Sportster history - with powerful performance on country roads and the latest technology for more safety and driving fun. The new Revolution Max 1250T V2 engine with 122 hp gives the Sportster S a particularly powerful acceleration from low revs. A firm, lightweight chassis and high-quality spring elements ensure high agility and intuitive driving behavior. From traffic light to traffic light and from one curve to the next, the new Sportster S offers the driver exactly the thrill that has always characterized the Sportster model family. At the same time, it sets new standards for this most traditional of all Harley-Davidson series.

The first examples of the Sportster S will arrive at Harley-Davidson dealers in autumn 2021 and will be offered at recommended retail prices starting at 15,495 euros in Germany and 18,595 euros in Austria.

Sportster S presentation from Harley-Davidson

“The Sportster S is the next completely new development, building on the Revolution Max platform and setting new performance standards for the Sportster series,” commented Jochen Zeitz, Chairman, President and CEO of Harley-Davidson. “This is a next-generation Sportster defined by power, performance, technology and style. And it is part of our commitment to building motorcycles that correspond to our strategy: They are intended to increase desirability and continue the tradition of Harley-Davidson.”

design

In profile, the new Sportster S appears flat and powerful. The tank and rear form a visual frame for the engine as the heart of the machine. The massive front tire evokes associations with the no-frills front ends of classic bobbers, while the rear, with a raised exhaust and a slim solo seat, is reminiscent of the legendary Harley-Davidson flat track racer XR750. A powerful upside-down fork at the front and the wide tires at the rear provide references to high-performance sports bikes.

“Every visual design element of the Sportster S is an expression of power,” said Brad Richards, Harley-Davidson vice president of styling and design. “This motorcycle is a wolf in wolf’s clothing.”

The drivetrain is trimmed with lightweight magnesium engine covers with a Chocolate Satin finish. Textures, colors, surfaces and details give the Sportster S the look of an individually built show bike.

engine

The heart of the new Sportster S is the Revolution Max 1250T engine with a displacement of 1,252 cubic centimeters. The latest version of the latest liquid-cooled Harley-Davidson V2 is tuned for high torque in the lower speed range and a flat torque curve across the entire usable speed range. The power development allows powerful acceleration and powerful pulling power. At the same time, Harley is once again relying on the engine as a load-bearing chassis component to save weight. In addition, lightweight materials contribute to the good power-to-weight ratio. When ready to drive, the Sportster S only weighs 228 kilograms. The raised 2-into-1-into-2 exhaust system ensures a pleasantly sonorous sound.

State-of-the-art technology for safety and driving pleasure

The new Sportster S brings the entire spectrum of modern technology to the table for a safe and intense driving experience that is state-of-the-art. Three pre-programmed driving modes (Sport, Road and Rain) electronically determine both the performance characteristics of the engine and the intensity of the driver assistance systems. With two freely programmable modes, the driver can tailor the driving experience even more specifically to his or her personal preferences or specific situations. The “Harley-Davidson Cornering Rider Safety Enhancements”, a package of electronic assistance systems to provide support in difficult road conditions and dangerous situations, adapts the power output and driving dynamics to the available grip when accelerating, coasting and braking - both when driving straight ahead in curves.

A round, four-inch TFT display as the main instrument is used to display all driving information as well as - in conjunction with a helmet headset - the infotainment from the driver's Bluetooth-compatible mobile device. With the free Harley-Davidson app, the driver always has music, navigation and hands-free functions under control. The vehicle lighting, which uses LED technology entirely, includes a Daymaker signature LED headlight for bright, homogeneous illumination of the road without annoying hotspots. In its striking oval capsule, the headlight also forms an unmistakable design element on the front of the vehicle, which allows other motorcyclists and road users to recognize the Sportster S at first glance.

Since the drivetrain of the new Sportster S is designed as a load-bearing element, it eliminates the need for a classic frame. This saves weight and at the same time results in a very torsion-resistant chassis - crucial for precise handling. The welded tubular steel swing arm with an upper and a lower pulley additionally stiffens the chassis and, with its unique look, forms another unmistakable design feature.

The front and rear wheels of the new Sportster S are guided by fully adjustable spring elements: at the front there is a Showa upside-down fork with a dip tube diameter of 43 millimeters, at the rear there is a Showa central spring strut with an integrated compensation reservoir. The spring preload can be conveniently adjusted hydraulically at the rear using a rotary control on the left side of the vehicle.

Cast alloy wheels in a five-twin-spoke design wear wide Dunlop/Harley-Davidson GT503 tires. The high-quality Brembo brake system is characterized by powerful and perfectly controllable deceleration. The front single disc with a diameter of 320 millimeters is acted upon by a radially screwed Brembo monoblock fixed caliper with four pistons. A two-piston brake caliper from Brembo is used on the rear wheel on a 260 millimeter brake disc.

A footrest system located at the front and a flat handlebar ensure a committed seating position on the Sportster S. With an unloaded seat height of 755 millimeters, almost every rider has secure contact with the ground when standing. Brake and clutch levers are adjustable. From the factory, the wiring harness of the Sportster S has connections for optional heated grips and separately available heated driving clothing as well as a USB-C charging port. An air temperature sensor issues a cold warning on the display if there is possible ice. A cruise control system and a security system with immobilizer are also standard. The steel tank has a volume of 11.8 liters.

Harley-Davidson Bareknuckle 2021 model line
The Harley-Davidson BareKnuckle project starts on July 13, 21

The Harley-Davidson BareKnuckle project starts on July 13, 21

Things are moving again at Harley-Davidson; on Monday the company announced that it would be presenting a new Harley-Davidson model in an online presentation on July 13th. It starts at 5:00 p.m., you can register in advance for the launch event link

The name “BareKnuckle” is unofficially on everyone’s lips

But what’s coming from Harley on July 13th? It can only be speculated, otherwise we could hold the launch event in advance on the Harley site, but of course there are a few clues. It will be the power cruiser that belongs to the new Bareknuckle project series, based on the new Revolution Max engine. The 1250 engine variant with the new powerful Revolution Max engine will be presented on July 13th. However, the power delivery will be different than that of the Pan America, which also runs the 1250 engine. The power cruiser is designed more for torque, which of course makes sense for a cruiser and goes best with a Harley-Davidson.

So we can assume that on paper it will have less power. To be honest, I can hardly imagine what kind of cruiser it will be, it must be one hot witch. Above all, the device will take off like tinder, I drove the Pan America with its 152 hp in race mode, you have to hold on to the catapult, otherwise it will take off without you. We can assume that the Revolution Max engine will change a lot.

Shows a Harley-Davidson new product for 2020
Harley-Davidson TBD 2021* 5 models 500-1250cc 2021-2022*

The new power cruiser was originally supposed to be available at dealers in August, but Harley-Davidson has postponed this date to autumn because, unfortunately, there are still delivery bottlenecks and who would have thought, the traffic jam in the Panama Canal is not entirely innocent of this either. They are probably trying to find various solutions to get them to the Harley-Davidson dealers as quickly as possible.

Two engine versions are being discussed

Two versions are being discussed, it is not entirely clear whether the 975 engine variant will be presented directly. Originally there was talk of a 500 and 700 engine variant, but we haven't heard anything about that yet. The small versions would open the way down to the younger target group, that would indeed be a big step.

The BareKnuckle project will certainly be well received, especially among the younger generation. If the Pan America display also finds its way into the power cruiser, the door will be open for individualized driving modes and connectivity to the cell phone, which is somehow something that young people have today in addition.

You hear something about our own customizing program, which should make tuning possible for the customer in a simple way, so not only make it chic, but simple performance optimization will be possible.

You can actually already see a lot of the prototype in the photo, so I would imagine that the cruiser will have a few cool features that you can't see directly. Technically it will be equipped similarly to the Pan America, various safety features and driving modes are expected, because it is really interesting how cool you can configure your own mode, which will particularly appeal to technology-savvy people.

Is there a BareKnuckle MotorClothes collection coming?

After the Rewire program, Harley-Davidson now has the Hardwire program running; the traditional company wants to completely reposition itself. Harley-Davidson is not just a motorcycle manufacturer, but also represents a lifestyle factor, so it would not be surprising if a matching MotorClothes collection was offered for the new Harley-Davidson BareKnuckle project. Jochen Zeitz has already recognized this aspect and will push these options accordingly.

BareKnuckle is a new model series

BareKnuckle is the term for a new model series from Harley-Davidson, which includes the announced power cruiser. The price range is assumed to be somewhere under 15,000, which would be a competitive price for Harley-Davidson. The Pan America has already shown us where the journey is headed, no one would have thought in advance that the standard version would start at €15,995, it was assumed that it would start at around €20,000.

And if you are really serious about “Evolution to Revolution”, it will cost as much as the last Sportster and it will even be somewhere around €14,000! Then you should be quick if you want to ride one again this year, we just saw at the Electra Glide Revival how crazy things can sometimes go, briefly introduced it and it was gone.

Whether the BareKnuckle project is supposed to replace the Sportster only tells us the correct model name of the new power cruiser that Harley-Davidson wants to introduce to us on July 13th.

“From Evolution to Revolution” tells us a lot, but you can never really be sure when it comes to Harley-Davidson.

“LiveWire One”

What has become known in passing is that Harley-Davidson, or rather “LiveWire”, also wants to introduce a new electric motorcycle in July. It will be called LiveWire One and will be equipped with a 75kw electric motor. It has 4 kW less than the actual LiveWire electric motor, which could help with the range. This is the biggest challenge that we continue to work on intensively.

The idea could be in the USA as early as July 8th, to be presented a day later at the International Motorcycle Show in the Irvine Amphitheater, California. There is no word yet about the price, but it is assumed that the price will be significantly lower than that of the LiveWire.

Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Revival
Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Revival – structure and sound

Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Revival – structure and sound

I was really worried whether I would ever get to see the first Harley-Davidson from the new Icons collection live. Harley-Davidson has limited the Electra Glide Revival to 1,500 models worldwide, 67 of which were distributed in Germany and shortly after the first pictures were published, the phones of Harley-Davidson dealers were burning hot.

We see a similar scenario here as with the Pan America. The new Harley-Davidson models are bought before the customer has even seen them in real life. CEO Jochen Zeitz's strategy of arousing desire seems to have worked completely.

Harley-Davidson Lübeck gave me the opportunity to be there when the new Electra Glide Revival was built for the customer. It is quite interesting to find out what is basically meant by the installation fee that is charged to the buyer of a new vehicle.

The topics in the video for the HD Electra Glide Revival

We talk about the sudden appearance of the Electra Glide Revival on the European market, give an insight into the construction of a new vehicle and start the engine for the first time.

The first impression counts! The Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Revival radiates beauty

It's standing in front of me in the workshop and the Hi-FI Blue is beaming at me, the color is amazing, it dominates everything! The Birch White is a very soft white that, in combination with the Hi-Fi Blue and the Black Denim, still leaves an impressive impression today. I haven't had this WOW feeling in a long time, which makes me want more from the Icons series.

What could have been done better

There's something about the combination of old school and modern technology, in the end I found two things that didn't convince me or that I would lend a hand to. The frame cover under the saddle could have been made better, as could the saddle, which looks good, but I would have liked thicker leather, it needs to be a little more sofa. I would have the saddle rebuilt professionally by a good saddler, not change it, just make it better.

What the new owner gets

Harley-Davidson charges 29,995 euros plus the installation fee of €560 for the Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Revival . It is a fully-fledged tourer, the frame is appropriate and it has all new technical features installed. Boom!Box GTS is installed in the batwing fairing . It is strictly limited to 1,500 models and comes with a certificate of authenticity . Anyone who can call an Electra Glide Revival theirs is already a rarity. I'm curious to see how often we'll see it on the road, or whether it'll disappear into private collections.

I hope you can see it often on our streets, especially on sunny days. A beautiful cruiser with which the trip to Key West, along the blue ocean, should be a dream. There I see her driving in my visions, you are welcome to leave your impression a little further down in the comment function.

WITH THE HARLEY-DAVIDSON ICONS COLLECTION, THE US MANUFACTURER CELEBRATES AMERICAN MOTORCYCLE DESIGN

The first model in the Icons Collection is the new Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Revival

NEW ISENBURG (04/26/2021) - With the Electra Glide Revival, Harley-Davidson today presents the new Icons Collection, an edition that will be expanded year after year in the future. It includes motorcycles that are produced in strictly limited quantities and that draw on traditional shapes and American style by taking up classic Harley-Davidson designs or ideas about the future of motorcycle design.

As part of the Icons Collection, Harley-Davidson will in future introduce one or two models every year that will be produced exclusively in that year. Production of such a model will neither be continued nor resumed at a later date.

Each motorcycle in the Icons Collection is provided with a serial number and the buyer receives a certificate of authenticity.

'The Hardwire' strategic plan , we are committed to bringing motorcycles to market that both increase desirability and continue our long tradition,” explains Jochen Zeitz , Chairman, President and CEO of Harley-Davidson . “That’s why I’m proud to present our new, strictly limited Icons Collection today, extraordinary adaptations of production bikes that form a successful synthesis of our great past and our promising future.”

The first model in a new collection

The Harley-Davidson Icons Collection makes its debut with the introduction of the Electra Glide Revival , a retro classic for old-school fans looking for a motorcycle with a style that is as distinctive as it is timeless. Global production of the Electra Glide Revival is limited to 1,500 units, which are expected to be available at authorized Harley-Davidson dealers in late April. The recommended retail price in Germany is 29,995 euros.

The look of the Electra Glide Revival is inspired by the Electra Glide of 1969, the first Harley-Davidson that could be optionally equipped with a batwing fairing. With its distinctive shape, this fairing became an iconic and often copied styling feature that helped to instantly identify a Harley-Davidson among a variety of motorcycles.

Even on current Harley-Davidson models, the basic shape of the original design is immediately recognizable. In 1969, the fairing and panniers were only offered as white fiberglass parts, so the Electra Glide Revival replicates this look by painting the corresponding components in Birch White.

The tank medallion inspired by the late sixties and the Electra Glide lettering on the front fender contribute to the classic style. The Electra Glide Revival is offered in a single livery, also inspired by the original 1969 color scheme: the tank is a two-tone Hi-Fi Blue and Black Denim, separated by a Birch White stripe. The fenders and side covers also have Hi-Fi Blue.

“In our fast-paced world, we are all constantly changing,” says Brad Richards, Harley-Davidson vice president of styling and design.

“The Electra Glide Revival is like a calm oasis in this hectic era. It brings to life the original Harley-Davidson DNA that laid the foundation for Grand American Touring.”

The design highlights of the Electra Glide Revival also include a solo saddle with black and white cover and chrome-plated railing. It is mounted on a shock absorber with an adjustable coil spring - another homage to the Harley-Davidson FL models of the 1960s and a functional feature that increases comfort.

Chrome-plated cross-spoke wheels and wide whitewall tires contribute to the nostalgic look, as does the shiny chrome layer on the front fender and case trim strips, the "ventilator" air filter cover, the fork tube covers and the additional headlights - a design that captivates the eye.

Milwaukee Eight 114

The Electra Glide Revival is powered by the Milwaukee Eight 114 V-Twin, which combines powerful performance with classic Harley-Davidson look, sound and feel.

  • Displacement: 1,868 cm3 ( 114 cui)
  • Maximum torque: 158 Nm at 3,250 rpm
  • Power: 69 kW (94 hp) at 5,250 rpm
  • Four-valve cylinder heads for optimal gas exchange and high performance
  • Double ignition for even, complete and energy efficient combustion
  • Six-speed Cruise Drive transmission for low engine speeds on the highway, low fuel consumption and high comfort

Additional features of the Harley-Davidson touring models

The Electra Glide Revival scores with classic style, but its technology is completely up to date. Your payload capacity and performance benefit from the rigid Harley-Davidson Touring frame, a double-loop steel tube construction with a backbone top cable. In conjunction with the chassis components, it is perfect for long journeys.

In order to ensure optimal driving behavior depending on the load, the preload of the spring struts, which are designed using emulsion technology, can be adjusted hydraulically by hand using a rotary control. The front wheel is guided by a 49 millimeter fork, which ensures linear damping characteristics with its dual bending valve technology.

The classic Batwing fairing features a high, clear windshield and the Splitstream Vent, a cleverly placed air intake that reduces turbulence in the rider's head area. An electronic cruise control system ensures increased driving comfort on long journeys, while a bright halogen headlight and two additional headlights ensure excellent illumination of the road and at the same time underline the nostalgic styling of the Electra Glide Revival.

The Boom! Box GTS infotainment system with color touchscreen supplies two speakers mounted in the fairing and offers, among other things, a modern navigation function. It can be used with control buttons or – when paired with a compatible headset – via voice control and is prepared for the use of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Also on board as standard are the Harley-Davidson RDRS Safety Enhancements, a package of driving safety systems that adapt the engine performance to the available traction when accelerating, decelerating and braking:

  • Cornering anti-lock braking system (C-ABS)
  • Corner-optimized electronic brake force distribution (C-ELB)
  • Cornering Traction Control (C-TCS)
  • Traction Slip Control (DSCS)
  • Vehicle Hold Assist (HHC)
