Customs break for Harley-Davidson-EU shifts decision by 14 days
Good news for Harley-Davidson and everyone who flirts with a US bike. As originally announced, the planned EU reference tariffs on US goods do not come into force in early April. Instead, the EU postponed the decision by two weeks. For Harley, this means a short breathing space - but it remains to be seen whether this is more than just a postponement.
What is the tariffs about?
The trade conflict between the EU and the USA has been going on for years. Donald Trump had imposed punitive tariffs on steel and aluminum imports during his term. The EU reacted with counter-tariffs to US products such as whiskey, jeans and motorcycles-including Harley-Davidson.
The problem: Massive the tariffs in Europe. Harley-Davidson faced the choice of passing on the higher costs to customers or looking for alternatives. One solution was the shift of a part of production abroad to avoid the EU tariffs.
The measures were temporarily suspended with Joe Biden as US President, but now the tariffs are threatening to come back. The EU originally planned to reintroduce it in early April. Now the deadline has been postponed by two weeks at short notice.
No official confirmation yet, but first reports
So far, unfortunately, there is no official report on the part of the EU Commission to postpone tariffs. Neither the press office nor official communications have so far confirmed the decision. Nevertheless, well -known news agencies such as dpa and Reuters that the EU has postponed the introduction of the measures.
According to these reports, the decision is primarily intended to give space to further negotiations with the USA. It remains to be seen whether the EU Commission will submit an official statement in the coming days or whether the shift will take place without greater communication.
Why this delay?
Intensive negotiations run behind the scenes. An important reason for the shift are new threats from the United States. Donald Trump has announced that it can prove European products such as champagne with 200 percent punitive tariffs. This increases the pressure on the EU to avoid an escalation of the trade dispute.
The shift could mean two things:
1. The EU wants to win time to find a diplomatic solution with the USA and prevent a new trade conflict.
2. It is further discussed internally whether the tariffs in this form should really be enforced - after all, they would also harm European dealers and consumers.
What does that mean for Harley-Davidson?
For Harley-Davidson, the delay is positive. The brand is initially spared from new EU tariffs, which means that US models do not become more expensive immediately. This affects both dealers and buyers who have a new Harley on the wish list.
If the tariffs come in mid -April, the situation could change quickly. Then retailers would either have to adjust the prices or find other ways to compensate for the additional costs.
What's next?
The situation remains unclear by mid -April. Will the EU hold on to the tariffs or is there a new agreement with the USA? The question of how the US government positions itself also plays a role, the whole thing could further tighten.
For bikers, this means: wait and see. There are still no price increases, but depending on the outcome of the negotiations, that could change. If you want to buy a Harley, you should keep an eye on the development.
The EU has postponed the planned retaliation tariffs to US goods by two weeks. Harley-Davidson is initially spared price increases. Background, effects ...
Currently you will probably be out in such a way that the EU will charge a penalty of 50 % on US motorcycles from April 1, 2025-in addition to the existing 6 % import customs. This makes Harley-Davidson a game ball in the transatlantic trade conflict. motorcycle online , also report .
👉 If you want to buy a new Harley Davidson, you now only have a few weeks left to secure the current prices. After that it gets really expensive. Due to the high punitive tariffs in the room, Harley-Davidson had to withdraw the price guarantee for previously unconfirmed orders today.
Harley-Davidson air bridge to Europe
Harley-Davidson currently transports motorcycles to Europe as a countermeasure and tries to quickly smuggle them through the customs camp. Anyone who gets one of them will not be affected by possible price increases.
Puncture tariffs will inevitably affect the used market!
We can assume that used market prices will also increase if the punitive tariffs take effect directly at the start of the season.
But why does it meet Harley-Davidson and not corporations like Apple or Tesla? Why does the EU get on with a motorcycle brand, while large tech giants apparently get away with it?
The truth is: motorcycles are an easy goal. Less resistance, less lobbying, less political relevance - but this decision has a massive impact for dealers, customers and the entire scene. It will be up to us to change that! It affects over 280 Harley-Davidson dealerships in Europe, employees, families and friends!
I actually see us all ancestors in Brussels!
Commercial dispute escalated! Does the EU impose 50 % punitive tariff on US motorcycles? 49
Motorcycles as an economic peasant victim in the trade conflict
The new tariffs are a direct answer to the US tariffs to European steel and aluminum imports. But while the EU wants to demonstrate strength here, it actually hits her own economy and motorcycle culture in Europe.
EU consultations: Now take a position on the motorcycle criminal offenses!
There is another chance to influence the decision : everyone can start a public consultation. If enough people speak against these absurd punishment, a little could move.
We will still have to think about further actions!
Now is the moment to raise your voice!
❌ This decision not only makes buyers, but also dealers, workshops and the entire Harley community.
❌ It damages Europe more than the USA.
❌ And it is another example of a policy that ignores reality.

Explanation of President of the Leyen with Commissioner Šefčovič on the EU countermeasures against US tariffs
Strasbourg, March 12, 2025
The trade relationships between the European Union and the United States are the largest in the world. They have brought millions of people prosperity and security. And the trade has created millions of good jobs on both sides of the Atlantic.
Since this morning, the United States has been raising a custom of 25 % on steel and aluminum imports. We deeply regret this measure. Customs are taxes. They are bad for the economy and even worse for consumers. They interrupt supply chains. They bring uncertainty for the economy. Jobs are at stake. The prices will increase. Nobody needs that - neither in the European Union nor in the United States.
The European Union must act to protect consumers and companies. The countermeasures that we take today are strong, but proportionate. Since the United States raise tariffs of $ 28 billion, we react with countermeasures of EUR 26 billion. This corresponds to the economic scope of the US tariffs.
Our countermeasures are introduced in two steps - starting on April 1 and completely implemented from April 13th. In the meantime, we always remain open to negotiations.
We are firmly convinced that in a world full of geo -economic and political uncertainties, it is not in our common interest to burden our economies with such tariffs. We are ready to conduct a meaningful dialogue. I have commissioned trade commissioner Maroš Šefčovič to resume the talks and search for better solutions with the United States.
Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič:
Thank you, Ms. President.
First let me repeat the words of regret. Today's tariffs of the United States lead us in the wrong direction - for several reasons. The trade relationships between the EU and the USA are well balanced and extremely profitable for both sides. When it comes to steel and aluminum, we share some challenges - such as the global overcapacity caused by non -market economy practices. The European Union is part of the solution, not the problem.
Last month I addressed these points during my visit to Washington. It was clear that the European Union is not the problem, which makes today's measures all the more unjustified. I have campaigned to avoid unnecessary stress through measures and countermeasures. But two hands are needed to clap.
However, the US government has chosen a harmful course of unjustified tariffs, so we have no choice but to react than to react-and that's exactly what we do now.
First, we will automatically put our currently exposed compensation measures from 2018 and 2020 into force from April. These affect US exports to the EU worth 4.5 billion euros.
Second, the Commission takes determined measures for an additional package of countermeasures that will affect US exports to the EU worth 18 billion euros.
In the next two weeks we will carry out consultations with important actors to design this new package of measures. The goal is to compensate for the commercial value affected by the US tariffs and at the same time to keep the effects on European companies and consumers as low as possible.
The disorders caused by tariffs are avoidable if the US government accepts our extended offer and reaches an agreement with us.
Under the leadership of the President, I am ready to negotiate. We are ready to find a solution.

The electrical trick 60 years ago was published by the first Harley-Davidson Electra Glide
Frankfurt (04.03.2025) - Until 1964, two -wheeled machines from Milwaukee had to be recorded, which was not for everyone in view of the displaced V2 with official compression. The Motor Company Sann remedied and gave the Twin an electric starter in 1965. Nomen est omen: The Electra Glide was born.
Their 1200 was called by the fans Panhead because they reminded its tipping lever covers of converted pans. He had been on duty since 1948 and Harley-Davidson had been designing him and his work environment since then more and more complex and comfortable: in 1949, a hydraulic telegabel replaced the previously used jumping fork-consequently the bike was now called Hydra-Glide. And since 1958 a swing and two spring legs have made even more convenience to the rigid stern so far, which resulted in the name Duo-Glide.
Making the Electra Glide from this was much more complex than implanting the machine only an electric motor for the engine start. Among other things, the motorcycle received a completely new electrical system with state -of -the -art 12 volts instead of 6 volts as before.
The Electra Glide, fueled by the new, even stronger Shovelhead V2 from 1966, cemented Harley-Davidson's reputation as a manufacturer of ultimate travel machines. After such a "Cadillac on two wheels", motorcycle fans licked their fingers on both sides of the big ocean.
Nothing has changed to this day, even if modern travel machines from Milwaukee are no longer technically comparable to their ancestor of 1965. The best example is the new Street Glide Ultra. Based on the new Grand American Touring platform, it offers a reduced weight and a plus of advanced technologies, driving comfort and performance.
The powerful Milwaukee-Eight 117, which produces 80 kW (109 hp) and develops a maximum torque of 175 Nm. The bike has the new chassis, the new look and the new Street Glide infotainment system and is also equipped with numerous luggage and comfort features that ensure the ultimate travel comfort. The classic design makes it clear that it is a real Harley Davidson.
An electric starter is of course just as natural at Street Glide Ultra as with all modern motorcycles. This was by no means the case 60 years ago: The electrical starter of the 1965 Electra Glide was also one of the very first ones who brought a large -volume motorcycle engine to life, and he was a component that made school:
A few decades later, the Kickstarter gradually died of two -wheelers. If you want to learn more about machines from Milwaukee, call up on the web Harley-davidson.com or visit the nearest HD dealer.

EU criminal offenses threaten European Harley-Davidson dealers
The latest developments in the transatlantic trade conflict have a high level of the potentially devastating effects of planned EU criminal offenses on Harley-Davidson and the European dealers' associated with the associated European dealers.
Background of the US criminal tariffs on steel and aluminum
US President Donald Trump has announced that they can raise tariffs from 25 percent to steel and aluminum imports from March 4, 2025, without exceptions to allied countries. The aim of this measure is to strengthen domestic industry and to ensure national security. Trump argues that the United States is more independent of foreign imports through these tariffs and can secure jobs in Germany.
Reaction of the European Union
The European Union has sharply reacted to the US tariffs and is planning countermeasures. In 2018, the EU had already introduced punitive tariffs to certain US products in response to former US tariffs, including motorcycles with more than 500 cubic centimeters of displacement, regarding brands like Harley-Davidson. These tariffs were later suspended, but could now be activated or even increased.
Fast activation of the EU criminal offenses-but at what price?
In the latest chancellor duel between Chancellor Olaf Scholz and opposition leader Friedrich Merz, there was an intensive discussion about the subject of punitive tariffs. Merz emphasized that in relation to punitive tariffs at eye level, the American president could be negotiated, while Scholz pointed out that the list of countermeasures had already been created and could be activated within an hour. Scholz also underlined that the American punitive tariffs would harm German industry in particular.
Harley-Davidson again focuses on-a strategic mistake?
However, the EU seems to be targeting Harley-Davidson again to overlook the importance of the company location in Europe. Harley-Davidson maintains numerous branches and employs many people within the EU. By imposing punitive tariffs to Harley-Davidson products, the EU could unintentionally affect its own economic interests and harm European companies and employees.
This situation illustrates the complexity of trade conflicts and the need for careful consideration of potential consequences before measures are taken that could possibly have negative effects on your own economy.
The reintroduction or increase of punitive tariffs to Harley-Davidson motorcycles would have serious consequences for the European dealers. As early as 2021, the Association of Harley-Davidson dealer warned dealership of the existential effects of such tariffs. At that time, an increase in total customs load was 56 percent in the room, which would have massively affected the competitiveness of the dealers.
Why are there duties at all?
Customs traditionally serve to protect the domestic economy against foreign competition, the generation of state revenues and as an instrument of trade policy. However, they can also lead to trade conflicts if they are perceived as protectionist measures.
Why fellows on Harley-Davidson make no sense
1. Puncture tariffs meet European dealers and jobs
Harley-Davidson has over 280 dealers in Europe. These dealers are medium -sized companies with local jobs that would be directly affected by punitive tariffs. Higher import costs would make motorcycles more expensive, which leads to less sales. This endangers jobs in the European motorcycle industry, from the dealer to the mechanic.
2. Customers in Europe would be disadvantaged
Harley-Davidson has a loyal clientele in Europe that often saves for their dream bike for years. Penal dumplings would artificially make the motorcycles more expensive and make it difficult to buy. This not only leads to economic damage, but also limits the freedom of choice of consumers.
3. Puncture tariffs on Harley-Davidson do not solve the trade problem
With punitive tariffs on Harley-Davidson, the EU not achieve a sustainable solution in the trade conflict. Instead, it would make the negotiations difficult and possibly lead to another escalation. Harley-Davidson is a symbol of American motorcycles, but not a key industry that significantly influences the trading balance.
4. Harley-Davidson already produces partly outside the United States
After the last punitive tariffs, Harley-Davidson has already relocated parts of his production to countries such as Thailand to bypass import duties in Europe. Unfortunately, this was also communicated at the same time, which recently had a negative impact on the dismissal. Harley-Davidson had sued the EU criminal offenses, but the European Court of Justice dismissed the lawsuit. The court argued that the relocation of production primarily served to bypass the tariffs and was therefore not economically justified. In my view, new punitive tariffs could still be ineffective, since they would only meet US production for a limited extent and instead, in particular, European dealers, customers and suppliers would burden.
5. Effects on European suppliers
In addition to the contractual dealers, numerous European suppliers of Harley-Davidson are also affected. Companies from Germany, Italy and other EU countries provide components, accessories and special components for Harley-Davidson motorcycles. A decline in sales volume due to higher import costs would also make these suppliers and thus endanger numerous other jobs.
The well-known European suppliers include the Italian brake specialist Brembo , which delivers specially developed brake systems for Harley-Davidson. In the area of electronics there is also indications that Bosch provides electronic components such as CDI units (Capacitor Discharge Ignition) and ECUS for Harley-Davidson models. Bosch also supplies ABS components , which are now standard on Harley Davidson models. This close connection with European suppliers shows that punitive tariffs not only make dealers and end customers, but also endanger the entire value chain in Europe.
6. European Harley-Davidson Community goes into resistance
This time the European Harley-Davidson Community will be rebelled against the planned EU criminal offenses. Especially with regard to the upcoming Bundestag elections, the opportunity must be used to jointly against blind activism, primarily from the CDU and SPD-EU parliamentarians.
7. Avoid escalation spiral
The United States could introduce tariffs from BMW, Ducati or KTM as a counter -reaction. This would only tighten the trade conflict and damage the entire motorcycle industry - including European manufacturers.
Harley-Davidson punitive tariffs 2025
The wolf conclusion
Puncture tariffs on Harley-Davidson would not only be economically harmful to European dealers and customers, but also politically questionable. They do not solve structural trading problems, but above all meet European companies and jobs. European suppliers such as Brembo and Bosch, who deliver essential components for Harley-Davidson, are also particularly affected. A break -in of sales would affect their business and endanger numerous jobs.
Determined resistance of the Harley-Davidson communitywill come!
Trump only demands the same conditions in this trade conflict and points out that there is currently an imbalance in favor of the EU. Instead of reacting with other punitive tariffs that strain on its own economy, the EU should develop a considered strategy. the European Harley-Davidson Community will clearly position itself against these measures and increase the pressure on politics. The first preparations have already been made!
In view of these economic consequences, the legitimate question arises: Are our politicianscompetentto make such far -reaching decisions, or are it about blind actionism regardless of the real consequences?
If politics is unable to find clever and economically sensible solutions in the long term, then a new approach is urgently needed that protects European companies and jobs.
The EU has postponed the planned retaliation tariffs to US goods by two weeks. Harley-Davidson is initially spared price increases. Background, effects ...

Harley-Davidson is currently working in Germany with 62, in Austria with seven and in Switzerland with 15 contract dealers. You can find out more about the companies on their respective websites and the nearest dealer can be found on Harley-Davidson.com .
