Heavy metal instead of software
Trainees from the authorized dealer Harley-Factory Frankfurt build a historic Two Cam
Update, upgrade, new mapping - anyone who learns the profession of automotive mechatronics engineer today often believes that they have misplaced themselves as computer scientists.
It's all the more gratifying when committed training companies like the Harley Factory Frankfurt and its classic car-savvy boss Thomas Trapp don't lose sight of the teaching of original mechanics in addition to all the software skills with complex projects.
The latest training item has a lot to offer: the basis for introducing young people to the basics of two-wheel technology is a rare Harley Two Cam from 1929, which is to be given new life as part of a professional restoration project by the two trainees Steven Ahr and Benjamin Grimm . The aim is to convey a qualified approach from theory to practice as well as an above-average knowledge base in several steps. The project is divided into several stages in which the trainees have to prove themselves in every conceivable process step, from researching the vehicle history to cost estimation of the project to disassembly, assembly and final acceptance.
To ensure that everything goes smoothly, Jörg Heininger, experienced workshop manager and master of two-wheel craftsmanship at Harley-Davidson Frankfurt, supports his trainees as a project manager. It started on November 1st, and expectations and enthusiasm on the part of the participants are already at a high level. After all, not many trainees can claim that they are preserving a piece of motorcycle history for posterity during their apprenticeship. The vehicle will also be built in a contemporary racing style and later presented by the trainees at vintage car races. Because not only the destination but the journey will be exciting, motorcycle and technology fans can follow the development of the bike over the entire project period at www.harleyfactory.de. A weekly web log will document whether the old Two Cam lady is making the guys sweat. The deadline is April 30, 2012. So take a look, learn along and be there!
