Usedom Island – Motorcyclist seriously injured in traffic accident

Usedom Island – On May 18, 2023, at around 1:30 p.m., a traffic accident involving personal injury and property damage occurred on the B110, between the Mellenthin intersection and the Lieper Winkel exit, near the Stolper Landweg entrance, involving a total of three motorcycles.

The 57-year-old driver of a Harley-Davidson was traveling on the B110 toward Mellenthin as part of a convoy of approximately 30 motorcycles. The motorcyclists traveling in front of him had to brake for unknown reasons due to traffic conditions. As a result of braking too hard, the 57-year-old German lost control of his vehicle and crashed.

He suffered serious injuries and was taken by rescue helicopter to Greifswald University Hospital. The vehicle itself sustained minor damage and remained roadworthy. Two motorcyclists following behind, both 58 years old and German, braked due to the fallen driver and also crashed.

Only their motorcycles were slightly damaged, but remained roadworthy. The total damage amounts to approximately €12,500. The road was temporarily closed.

Even after traffic was diverted past the accident site on one side of the road, a significant traffic jam formed due to holiday traffic and traffic arriving on the island of Usedom.
