RIP Karl Schagerl – Harley-Davidson St. Pölten
It's the first news of the new year 2014, unfortunately it's about a sad event.
In the early evening of New Year's Eve, the Harley-Davidson St. Pölten managing director - Karl Schagerl from Austria, died in a tragic accident with a New Year's Eve firecracker. The ball bomb, which is also illegal in Austria, did not detonate promptly, so the ever-popular Karl Schagerl probably wanted to make sure that the fuse was still lit.
One must actually assume that he was aware of the effect of fireworks, but not of the danger and peculiarities of the ball bomb . He probably detonated a ball bomb in a field in Deutsch-Wagram Lower Austria early in the evening of New Year's Eve.
You can buy this type of fireworks on the Internet, but you may not have realized how dangerous they really are, it's not always listed. The ball bomb has a very long fuse of over a meter, the first 5 cm burn very slowly, the second part of the fuse consists of a narrow strip (also called a stoppin), which ignites the resulting hot gases within 10ms.
This probably led to 53-year-old Karl Schagerl's tragic death in the sudden explosion. When he leaned over the self-made launcher, he was seriously injured in the face and died on site.
His partner and her 11-year-old son were present at the accident and suffered shock.
Karl Schagerl was the very successful managing director of the Harley-Davidson authorized dealer in St. Pölten. It was only in January 2013 that one of the largest Harley-Davidson locations in Europe was opened with 5000 square meters. In the photo he can be seen in September 2013 at the largest European event, the European Bike Week at Lake Faak. That's how he was known, always busy and a very prudent businessman, which makes it all the more puzzling that he took such a life out of it in which he has stood with both feet.
The Voralpen-Chapter Austria is the affiliated chapter of Harley-Davidson St. Pölten and expresses the loss of a friend on its website, as many other authorized dealers from all over the world express their condolences to the family.
Our condolences go out to his family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time.
If you would like to accompany him, according to information from HD St. Pölten, the mass will take place on January 10, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. in St. Pölten Cathedral .
The funeral will take place St. Pölten main cemetery at 1:30 p.m.
