Motorcycling makes women happy Study explores the connection between happiness in life and motorcycling

• Female bikers feel happier, more confident, and more sexually attractive.

If women in the fifties and sixties wanted to feel good, rise above their problems, and truly blossom, they would treat themselves to a sip of „Frauengold“ from their trusted drugstore. „Full of life with Frauengold“ was the advertising slogan—no wonder, as the tonic had an alcohol content of 16.5 percent by volume...

Women have it better these days—they simply buy a Harley. At least, that could be the conclusion of a study conducted by market research institute Kelton Global on behalf of Harley-Davidson in the USA. Based on a sample of 1,013 women who ride motorcycles and 1,016 women who do not, the study sought to find out what women get out of this hobby.

The surprising result: female cyclists appear to have much better emotional well-being in general and self-esteem in particular than non-cyclists. Twice as many said they felt happy (37 percent of riders, 16 percent of non-riders), four times as many felt sexy (27 percent of riders, 7 percent of non-riders), and twice as many felt self-confident (35 percent of riders, 18 percent of non-riders). More than half (53 percent) of the female motorcyclists surveyed attribute their overall life satisfaction to motorcycling, and nearly three-quarters of female bikers said their lives were enriched when they decided to get on a motorcycle.

„Motorcycling is simply the ultimate way to express personal freedom,“ explains Claudia Garber, Director of Women's Outreach at Harley-Davidson. The study also revealed that motorcycling can have a positive impact on relationships. 60 percent of female riders, but only 38 percent of non-riders, were satisfied with communication with their partner. More than half of female bikers (51 percent) expressed satisfaction with their sex lives, compared to only 38 percent of non-riders. So it's not surprising that 50 percent of female bikers are extremely satisfied in their relationships.

Incidentally, women's gold has not been available since 1981, as its aristolochic acids proved to be harmful to the body. Harleys and the corresponding refresher courses are available from authorized dealers – risks and side effects can be discussed with your nearest therapist.
