Sturgis Motorcycle Rally 2026
Sturgis At a Glance
The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally is the world’s largest motorcycle gathering. Every August since 1938, this small town of 7,100 residents transforms into a biker town with well over 400,000 visitors. Main Street, the rides through the Black Hills, and Needles Highway—Sturgis is more than just a rally; it’s a pilgrimage destination.
What Makes Sturgis Special
Ten days Sturgis
The rally isn't a festival with a set schedule—it's ten days of nonstop action divided into three phases.
Opening Weekend — Main Street Opens
The first Friday in August marks the official start of the rally. Main Street fills up, vendors open for business, and the first few thousand riders arrive. Demo rides begin at the Buffalo Chip and at the manufacturers’ booths. Concerts take place at all venues, and the first evening acts perform at the Glencoe Campground.
During the week — plenty to do, fewer crowds
Weekdays offer the full Sturgis experience with one major advantage: fewer crowds than on the weekend. Rides on Needles Highway, Iron Mountain Road, and through Spearfish Canyon. Manufacturers and exhibitors are in full swing.
Closing Weekend — Final Concert and Departure
Main Street will be packed again this second weekend. The final major concert acts, bike shows, and custom bike displays. Sunday, the 16th, is officially the last day of the rally.

Flight, rental bike, Black Hills
Direct flights to Denver (DEN) or Minneapolis (MSP) are the most common entry points from Europe. The distance from Denver to Sturgis is about 600 km, and from Minneapolis, about 750 km.
If you fly directly to Rapid City (RAP, the nearest airport, about 40 miles away), you'll save travel time. Be sure to reserve a rental bike early, as availability is limited during rally week.
