Mettmann – motorcyclist seriously injured in collision
On Monday morning (May 2nd, 2022), a 67-year-old disregarded the right of way of a 58-year-old motorcyclist when turning onto Mettmanner Straße. The driver of a Harley-Davidson was so seriously injured in the collision that he had to be taken to a hospital for inpatient treatment.
This is what happened:
At around 10:15 a.m., a 67-year-old woman from Velbert was driving her Toyota Verso on Mettmanner Straße in the direction of Wülfrather Straße. At the junction with Goethestrasse she intended to turn left onto Goethestrasse. While turning, she disregarded a motorcyclist coming towards her who was driving along Mettmanner Straße from the direction of Wülfrather Straße in the direction of Flandersbacher Straße.
There was a collision in the junction area. The 58-year-old was thrown to the ground on his Harley Davidson motorcycle and was so seriously injured by the force of the impact that he had to be taken to hospital for inpatient treatment after initial medical treatment by emergency services.
Both the Harley-Davidson and the Toyota Verso were so badly damaged in the collision that they were no longer roadworthy and had to be towed away. The police estimate the material damage caused to be around 10,000 euros.
Mettmanner Straße had to be closed in both directions while the accident was being investigated.
