(Neu-Isenburg, 21.12.2016) What began in 2013 with the unusual idea of a few petrolheads has now developed into one of the most successful charity campaigns in the two-wheeler sector: the Motorrad.de fundraising campaign. In the three campaigns that have taken place since 2013, more than 258,000 euros have been raised for the DRK-Kinderklinik Siegen, one of the last independent children's clinics in Germany. However, it is not only the clinic with its 700 employees and around 56,000 patients per year that has benefited immensely from the fundraising campaign in recent years; a number of bikers have also been able to enjoy attractive prizes donated by industry and trade.
Northern German motorcycle fan Marcus Funke was one of the lucky winners in 2016. On December 10, he received a surprise call from Andreas Bergerforth, head of Thunderbike, Harley-Davidson Niederrhein, who informed him that he was now the proud owner of a unique
Harley-Davidson custom bikes. However, the 48-year-old from Mölln was only able to fully appreciate his good fortune on December 19 at the official motorcycle handover in Hamminkeln. His new bike was extensively customized by Thunderbike, Harley-Davidson Niederrhein, on the basis of a Harley-Davidson Softail Breakout and is worth over 54,000 euros. The joy of winning was written all over Marcus' face.
The winners of the other prizes have now also been drawn from the lottery drum by initiator Arnd Dickel, press spokesman for Siegen Children's Hospital. Dickel was delighted with the great success: „In addition to the approximately 24,000 donors who have taken part over the last four years, we would like to thank in particular the sponsors Thunderbike, Bertl's Harley-Davidson Bamberg, Kruse Design, Harley-Davidson Germany GmbH, a number of other companies in the motorcycle industry and, of course, the media. Without them and without their support, this success would not have been possible. Since 2013, prizes worth around 120,000 euros have been donated to our Motorrad.de fundraising campaign.“
However, the young and older patients at the DRK Children's Hospital in Siegen were most pleased, as the donations were used to realize important projects there. These include the installation of a specially air-conditioned room for children with burns, the start-up financing of outpatient palliative care by a dedicated team and the purchase of important medical equipment.
