Motorcycles confiscated after races
Lüdenscheid/Meinerzhagen:
Three motorcyclists were on the Nordhelle on Thursday at a top speed of almost 170 km/h. The police pursued the group on a civilian motorcycle. The ProViDa motorcycle – a kind of radar car on two wheels – filmed the journey northwards (ProViDa stands for “Proof Video Data System”). It was almost 30 kilometers from Drolshagen through Meinerzhagen to Lüdenscheid.
Without considering oncoming traffic or distances, the three motorcycles from the Hagen/Iserlohn area overtook other road users. The average speed was also well above what is permitted on the partly very narrow, confusing and winding route.
At the roundabout near the Lüdenscheid-Süd motorway entrance, the three saw the red “Stop Police”. One of the drivers accelerated again and fled.
The other two had to use other means of transport to get home: The police confiscated motorcycles and driving licenses from the 50 and 43 year old men. The investigation into the third driver is ongoing.
Due to the reckless and grossly traffic-contrary driving style over a long distance, the police are investigating a violation of Section 315d of the Criminal Code ("Prohibited motor vehicle racing by grossly traffic-contrary and reckless driving as a vehicle driver in order to achieve the highest possible speed"). This provides for prison sentences of up to two years or corresponding fines.
The police have announced further intensive checks on the typical motorcycle routes in the Märkischer Kreis. The reason lies in the number of accidents: last year, motorcyclists had an accident in the district every 38 hours. 62 people were slightly injured, 39 seriously injured and five motorcyclists were killed. Unfortunately the numbers are increasing. (cris)
