New Hard Candy Custom paint jobs at Harley-Davidson
The Sportster Seventy-Two, the first production motorcycle in Hard Candy Big Red Flake, made its debut in the 2012 model year. The ruby red metallic paint with the cool seventies-style glitter effect evokes memories of the rebellious custom look of classic buggies, bikes and diners of the era.
It proved so successful that Harley-Davidson is offering a select range of such “Hard Candy Custom” paint finishes for the 2013 model year.
In addition to “Hard Candy Big Red Flake”, the new colors “Hard Candy Lucky Green Flake” and “Hard Candy Coloma Gold Flake” are now available.
The first layer of these finishes is a black base coat. A layer of resin is applied to it, in which countless colored plates are embedded, which are seven times larger than the pigments of conventional metallic paints.
This is followed by several layers of clear varnish, each sanded smooth by hand. This creates an effect of impressive intensity and depth.
Finally, the painters apply the model-specific graphics and special Hard Candy custom logos.
For the Harley-Davidson models Sportster Seventy-Two, Sportster Forty-Eight, Dyna Street Bob and Softail Deluxe, at least one of the three Hard Candy Custom paint colors will be offered as standard in the coming model year.
Even more impressive is the effect of Hard Candy Custom two-tone paint, which is reserved for the new CVO Breakout in 2013, which combines Hard Candy Gold Dust with Liquid Sun.
A dozen additional Hard Candy Custom paint finishes are
offered in the Harley-Davidson Genuine Motor Accessories Color Shop on several Sportster, Dyna, Softail and Touring models.
And of course Harley-Davidson also provides the driver's outfit that is tailored to it. The new products can be seen at the “Open House”, the open day at the nearest Harley-Davidson authorized dealer: The time has come on October 6th, 2012.
