#1 North Cape Tour – From Kiel to Skagen in Denmark
And now we're off to the North Cape, which is located at the tip of Norway in the Finnmark area and is one of the northernmost points in Europe. On July 2nd we started near Kiel, after a family farewell ceremony we set off, slowly it started to tingle, we finally had something big planned.

The weather was a bit mixed, but for us northern Germans everything is perfect as long as it stays dry. The odometers are all set to zero and off we go, our daily route today should be approx. 430 kilometers, we want to drive to the Danish tip of Skagen to spend the night there and then take the Color Line Superspeed ferry from Hirtshals to Kristiansand in Norway the next day .
We drive via Kiel towards Flensburg, there is the border and at the Ellund crossing we go to Denmark, as long as they let you in. Border controls are taking place here again, but we were not part of the target group and were allowed to enter the country without being checked.
First headwind – It started with wind force 8!
The weather forecast had predicted some rain and storms for us and it turned out to be right. We planned about 5 hours for the tour and at some point we started with a full broadside of wind from the front. Hermann on his EVO suffered the most, fully packed and with a high windscreen, he had to work hard on the treat. The wind almost took Ernst off track on his E-Glide and his first packing mistakes were immediately punished.

We were very well equipped, the long preparation phase made us smarter every day, not everyone has to take everything with them, so it came about that Ernst had to carry the beer on his E-Glide, which then brings the steamer in a storm I also like to swing.
The old EVO suddenly felt thirsty
The storm has reached a force of 8, but you have to get there with the Harley first. Hermann was the first to realize that his tank in the current mode is not intended for long tours, the EVO has developed into a drinking goat, less than 150 kilometers there were more in it. We were already thinking about whether there was a connection with his beard. We actually wanted to cut it off, but then we just tied it in a knot.

Somehow we managed it and arrived at Løkken Strand Camping below Hirtshals before sunset. This campsite is highly recommended, a biker-friendly owner welcomed us and gave us free choice of where to park. You couldn't miss his grin when we said we wanted to go camping. The first nice spot was directly behind the dune, on the other side was the lashing North Sea, the idea wasn't a good one at all, we were almost blown over and how are you supposed to put up the tent in a storm like that?
Romantic wind force 10 in the dunes of the North Sea
So we gave up on romance and built ourselves up behind a wooden wall to protect ourselves. It was hardly possible, it was only possible as a team and now my large tent hooks were used, which we divided between us. When the wind is force 10, setting it up is a nightmare. But we managed it as a team and now the brilliant sunset on the North Sea coast was waiting for us, that was just awesome and a lot of fun, our Hermann was hanging with his full body weight in the wind, that was the show!

Opposite our tent there was a lounge, there was the ideal place to hold our dinner ceremony, now everything was served up, Ernst only had beer, but Hermann has a butcher on his island of Fehmarn, who is probably his friend, it's unbelievable what he did had all kinds of sausage with him. Our plan to have beer around the campfire had blown away, the empty cans were just spinning in the whirlpool of wind from the concrete trash can. The first night in the tent was really hard for us old men, Ernst had the best tent in this case, his tunnel was windproof, the wind blew through my tent even though everything was closed and we don't even want to talk about Hermann's hut , I still have to collect his parts again, without my hooks he wouldn't have been with us in the morning.
The morning after
But he was still there and after we freshened up in the bathroom at the campsite, we had to do a few things that suddenly were at the top of the agenda! Hermann's -50 degree winter mummy feather sleeping bag was very small when packed, but with that thing he would have frozen to death in Norway, that meant!

First note! At home on Fehmarn, he killed the salesman at the outdoor store. In Hirtshals we found a large shop that had everything that was missing on special offer, so all was right with the world again and we headed to the bakery in Løkken to have a decent breakfast. You should drive the few meters if you want If you want to start the day well, you'll get the perfect foundation here.
Now to refuel and see if everything is solid, maybe check for oil. And then we come directly to Hermann's next problem!
Second note! Killed the screwdriver in the workshop, where did the engine oil go? He went to check before the tour, that didn't help, refill and keep watching. But that's also normal, if anyone has something, it will always be Hermann, he can't do anything about it, that just calms you down for as long as it takes he is with!

After a hearty breakfast we continue to the Color Line Superspeed ferry to Hirtshals, with which we will cross to Kristiansand in 3.15 hours. The ship can do 27kn (50km/h), which is really fast for a ferry, despite the speed it is really a pleasant crossing. The Harleys are securely lashed to the ship, and there are usually enough straps on the ferry for tying them up.
When we arrive in Hirtshals, we continue to the Reinfoss, on the river there are lots of great hollowed out stones and also a swimming area, but there is more in the next part.
