Rock the road for charity
Peter Maffay and Harley-Davidson help children in need
For rock legend Peter Maffay, not just nice words, they are the driving force behind his actions.
The busy “star you can touch” has been inspiring people with his music for decades and can probably be counted among the most socially committed German rock stars.
For more than ten years, he and his Peter Maffay Foundation have been creating shelters that serve as places of retreat for disadvantaged children and young people in need.
Nestled in beautiful landscapes, the specially equipped facilities offer a wide range of activities and care to help you gain new strength and confidence.
It was certainly only a matter of time before the passionate Harley rider Maffay rediscovered his Romanian homeland as the ideal place for a project.
With the help of his foundation, he bought parts of the local fortified church in Radeln, around 100 kilometers from his hometown of Brasov, and, with many helping hands, transformed it back into a place of security.
But strong ideas need strong partners: From July 22nd to 25th, Maffay went on tour, but instead of taking his guitar with him to ensure good sound, he took his Harley with him.
The Heitzig Service Agency had organized a top-class charity motorcycle trip on behalf of Harley-Davidson Hamburg Nord: a four-day discovery tour through Maffay's home country of Romania, with which the star, as an exclusive passenger, thanked each of the 26 participants for their donation and, of course, presented location also presented the new facility.
But it wasn't just Maffay and his commitment that guaranteed great joy among the trip participants: the rough Romanian landscape and the great hospitality of the country's residents also caused enthusiasm.
From Sibiu the journey led via Maffay's hometown Brasov to Bran and cycling. In addition to extremely curvy dream roads such as the Transfagaras High Road, which guaranteed breathtaking views over the highest mountains in Romania at an altitude of up to 2042 meters, a visit to the world-famous Dracula Castle in Bran also offered unforgettable moments.
In the end, all participants agreed: rarely has it been more exciting to do good.
