Police take noisy motorcycles out of circulation
During a targeted traffic check by experts from the Mettmann district police authority, officers from the traffic service took two motorcycles out of circulation on Friday afternoon (September 11, 2020) due to excessive noise. An expert has now confirmed the officers' preliminary tests on Tuesday afternoon (September 15, 2020). The owners face a fine and costly repairs to their bikes.
That's what happened:
On Friday afternoon, the two drivers, aged 54 and 56, were stopped and checked on their motorcycles in Velbert-Langenberg. During the inspection, unauthorized modifications were initially detected on the motorcycles. A sound level measuring device installed on site also showed that the permissible noise level was clearly exceeded, so that both motorcycles were seized.
As part of an expert assessment on Tuesday (September 15, 2020), the noise level was confirmed to have been exceeded by 22 db/A and 20 db/a respectively, leading to the immediate revocation of the operating license for the Harley Davidson and the Thunderbike. As unapproved exhaust systems, headlights and - on one motorcycle - an unapproved air suspension were also installed, the two Essen-based vehicle owners can now expect extensive conversion and repair work in order to regain their operating license. A further consequence is an administrative offense report, which will result in a fine of EUR 180. The Essen-based company will also be required to pay the costs of the seizure and the expert's fees.
