Police remove loud motorcycles from traffic

During a targeted traffic check by experts from the Mettmann district police authority, traffic service officers withdrew two motorcycles from traffic on Friday afternoon (September 11, 2020) because of excessive noise. An expert has now confirmed the officials' preliminary tests on Tuesday afternoon (September 15, 2020). The owners are threatened with a fine and expensive repairs to their machines.

This is what happened:

On Friday afternoon, the two drivers, aged 54 and 56, were stopped and checked on their motorcycles in Velbert-Langenberg. As part of the inspection, unauthorized modifications to the motorcycles were initially discovered. A sound level meter installed on site also showed that the permissible noise level was significantly exceeded, so both motorcycles were seized.

As part of an expert review on Tuesday (September 15, 2020), the volume excess of 22 db/A and 20 db/a respectively was confirmed and led to the immediate expiration of the operating license for the Harley Davidson and the Thunderbike. Since unauthorized exhaust systems, headlights and - in the case of a motorcycle - an unapproved air suspension were also installed, the two Essen vehicle owners now face extensive conversion and repair work in order to regain their operating license. Another consequence is an administrative offense report, which will result in a fine of EUR 180. The people of Essen are also ordered to pay the security and expert costs.
