Motorcycle checks in Hamburg: prevention campaign to avoid excessive motorcycle noise

Hamburg:

b) 19.06.2021, 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Places:

a) Hamburg-Kirchwerder, Zollenspieker-Hauptdeich / Zollenspieker ferry pier

b) Hamburg-Langenhorn, Holtkoppel 100, „Coffee to Fly“

As part of the nationwide road safety campaign „Road Safety Day“, officers from Traffic Directorate 6 will be providing information about the „Silent Rider“ initiative at two popular meeting points for motorcyclists tomorrow.

The trend of going to so-called „biker meeting points“ on motorcycles when the weather is nice is on the rise again due to the relaxation of the Containment Ordinance. Well-known locations such as the Zollenspieker ferry pier or the „Coffee to Fly“ are often used as meeting points. The resulting background noise, e.g. from manipulated exhaust systems, is increasingly a huge burden for local residents and reduces their quality of life.

Although the noise polluters are only a minority, all motorcyclists are often criticized for this. The consequences are often restrictions, legal bans or route closures, as is the case in other federal states, for example. To make motorcyclists more aware of the issue, the Hamburg police will be holding on-site talks tomorrow to inform them about the causes of excessive noise and the resulting effects.

Flyers will also be distributed and posters for the initiative will be put up.
