THE PROJECT LIVEWIRE™ EXPERIENCE LAUNCHES IN THE UK –
GERMAN DRIVERS WILL ALSO BE ABLE TO HAVE A PART IN DECISIONS ON THE FUTURE OF THE FIRST ELECTRICALLY DRIVEN HARLEY-DAVIDSON®
Oxford (May 29, 2015) – In mid-May, British motorcycle fans had the opportunity to ride a Project LiveWire™ bike and find out Harley-Davidson
In keeping with the Harley-Davidson product development process, which is geared towards consumer expectations, the motorcycle not only allowed to be driven at the event Rather, following the exclusive test ride, the company expressly asked customers to give their feedback on the bike. Ultimately, the machines created in Project LiveWire are not intended for sale, but rather serve the sole purpose of learning more about what customers want from an electrically powered Harley-Davidson.
To get to know LiveWire, the British motorcycle fans met at the Millbrook Venues, a technology center with a test track in Bedfordshire. Those who did not yet have a driving license to gain an impression of the performance of the electrically powered Harley-Davidson Jumpstart™ driving simulator Around 230 customers took the opportunity to take a test drive, and another 50 jumped on the Jumpstart™.
“We are thrilled that the global Project LiveWire Experience Tour has made its first European stop in our country,” says Steven Colling , Marketing Manager Harley-Davidson UK & Ireland. “The event helps to gain valuable insights into the direction in which an electrically powered Harley-Davidson should be further developed in the future. We were very impressed by the extensive feedback we received from the drivers. It is a great help to us in understanding this fascinating new market – especially as the technology of electrically powered vehicles is rapidly evolving.”
“To be honest, the LiveWire was the first electric motorcycle I rode. What surprised me most was the way the power was delivered, much more immediate and direct than anything I've ridden before - and I've ridden a lot of bikes. If that's the future, I'm in!" said Phil Whitmore, one of the riders who got to test a Project LiveWire bike on May 15th.
“It was completely different to anything I expected,” said Danny from Northamptonshire, who owns a competitor’s machine. “I had a big grin on my face the whole time. It's hard to imagine that a few batteries underneath you would generate all this power. I thought Harleys were these big, lumbering, slow things. But this bike really blew me away.”
The Project LiveWire Experience Tour continues - via France and Italy to Germany, where customers will have the opportunity to test an electric Harley-Davidson on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July 2015 at the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg . If you want to find out more, see for yourself the performance of the machine and give the Motor Company your feedback, apply for a test drive at projectlivewire.harley-davidson.com.
