EU punitive tariffs on Harley-Davidson and Jack Daniels?
That would be a major blow to the Harley-Davidson brand in Europe. On Tuesday morning, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), according to its own information, got wind of what the planning for a trade war with the USA could look like. The European Union has so far held back publicly about this, but we are not used to anything different from Brussels. It is known that the EU has long been preparing for a trade war with the USA as a high priority. If the USA were to introduce import restrictions on aluminum, steel and cars, the matter would escalate.
Harley-Davidson comes into the EU's focus because the company is headquartered in Wisconsin and the Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives, Paul Ryan, comes from this state. Donald Trump invited the leadership of Harley-Davidson to the Oval Office, which was also likely to play a role.
But what can happen if the EU imposes these punitive tariffs? A lot can happen, the level of the punitive tariffs will be noticeable. When it comes to something like this, penalties are real punishments.
Harley-Davidson has a comprehensive dealer network in Europe, the authorized dealers are ultimately in the worst position and will have to pay for everything, if they can afford it at all.
And let's be honest, the Harley customer doesn't say, "I'll buy a Suzuki now," some people have the BMW as a second motorcycle in their garage anyway, but there's simply no alternative to the Harley-Davidson, that's something different. than drinking another whiskey!
The punitive tariffs are intended to protect our economy from exclusion, but something is wrong!
With whiskey this may still be possible from time to time, because sometimes something else tastes good, but I don't like that idea either and certainly not with Harley-Davidson!
The EU is annoying anyway with its 21,000 EU regulations and guidelines.
Cucumber regulations, condoms, vacuum cleaners, what are they actually doing in Brussels? We don't want to forget the privatization of drinking water.
Why are fun items such as motorcycles reprimanded? At some point the proportionality dissolves here, these are not commercial vehicles. Of course we are all for a clean environment and emission levels are an important issue, but also a little fun in life, this madness about rules has to come to an end at some point!
If the information about the punitive tariffs increases, things will have to become political here in the future and we should show solidarity, otherwise it will be over for Harley-Davidson and our fun in a few years. I'll say #nogroko
