With the Harley through the land of the fathers
Reuther's motorcycle trips following in the footsteps of our ancestors in Europe
Coburg, October 31, 2011 – Lorna is laughing from ear to ear. She has reached the goal of her dreams. The mighty peak of the Glockglockner, the highest mountain in Austria, rises in front of her. Its white snowfields at almost 3,800 meters above sea level sparkle in the sun.
In front of it stretches the Pasterze, the longest glacier in the country at 9 kilometers. Its furrows and ice crevices are impressive. And behind Lorna lie almost 50 kilometers of high alpine roads past a unique mountain world. The 36 turns on the Harley with her husband Noel were pure pleasure. This is how Lorna wanted to travel to the homeland of her ancestors.
They come from Europe and emigrated many decades ago. With the Alps and Lakes Tour from Reuthers Motorcycle Travel, Lorna has now fulfilled a long-held dream of visiting the land of her ancestors. Like many other participants from the New World.
“All participants on the first Alps and Lakes Tour in 2011 had ancestors in Europe.” said Hermann Reuther, founder and managing director of REUTHER-ENTERTAINMENTS, an authorized Harley-Davidson tour operator.
The tour takes you from the cosmopolitan city with a heart, Munich, world-famous for its Oktoberfest, via Salzburg, the city where Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's beautiful melodies were written, into the magnificent mountain world of the Alps. Of course, the program also includes a visit to Neuschwanstein, the legendary fairytale castle of the Bavarian King Ludwig.
For several years now, Reuthers Premium has been offering motorcycle tours for Americans, Canadians, New Zealanders and Australians who have their roots in Europe. Millions of Europeans set out to seek their fortune in the New World between the 17th and 20th centuries.
They wanted a new, a better life. Today, 3 out of 4 Americans have European ancestry. “Many of them want nothing more than to see their homeland, to experience where their own grandfather and ancestors lived, and we can fulfill this wish,” says Hermann Reuther, who offers six different tours through Europe.
In addition to the motorcycle , these tours are also possible in a support vehicle or as a mini bus trip.
There were more than 3 million Irish people among the emigrants. Their descendants can extensively explore the country of their fathers on an 8-day motorcycle trip and so the Ireland trip takes them through old Viking cities, over breathtaking passes and along the Atlantic coast of course to the Heritage Center in Cork, the former Queenstown, from where the Irish are hopeful started for the New World.
In September 2012 there will also be a real premiere: “Bella Italia” takes exiled Italians and Italy fans to the land of good cuisine, through diverse landscapes past culture that is thousands of years old. Tuscany lovers can also book just the six-day Tuscany tour, starting in Florence, the city of Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci or Galileo Galilei.
“On a Harley-Davidson motorcycle following in the footsteps of our ancestors, that’s simply a dream,” says Hermann Reuther. Lorna, with the German maiden name Bauer, sums it up: “It was simply a wonderful tour,” says the Australian as she gets off the Harley after the Alps and Lakes Tour in Munich.
