Riding a Harley during the pandemic
Here we go again, the first rays of sunshine are inviting us to go for a ride, and we'd love to hit the road with our buddies again. But is that even allowed? What can we do and what can't we do? That is the question. The fact is that the lockdown has been extended until March 28, 2021. For motorcyclists, this may mean that things are not the same everywhere in the country as they were before the lockdown and the pandemic, but it is not prohibited!
Joyrides are permitted where there are no curfew restrictions.
Depending on the state, the problem starts with groups of 5 or 10 cyclists. In Schleswig-Holstein, the restrictions are no longer as strict, but in the south, the situation can be quite different. Where curfews are in place, an important reason must also be given. The situation is currently easing everywhere, but if incidence rates are too high in a district, stricter rules will apply again in that area.
Anyone who is on their way to work, a specialist workshop, a general inspection, shopping, the doctor, etc. may continue their journey. Journeys for leisure purposes are not permitted in these areas. Anyone planning a leisure trip should be sure to find out in advance about the respective districts they wish to drive through. The police are also on the road, and in Upper Bavaria, the motorcycle control group has already been deployed on the roads.
Don't forget your FFP2 mask!
And don't set off without a mask; a cloth is not enough, you should have an FFP2 mask with you on every journey.
So, check the route carefully beforehand to see if there are any risk areas along the way. If not, you and your friends will be able to complete the tour in a small, manageable group without any hassle from the authorities.
Wear your mask at gas stations and other rest stops and maintain social distancing as usual.
Control group Motorcycle stops excessively loud Harley-Davidson
In Bad Tölz, the police stopped motorcyclists who were riding too loudly over the weekend. One of them was a Harley rider who was riding with a mechanical flap exhaust in the open position, which was not permitted in his case, especially since he reached 113 decibels after the measurement.
So there are other things that can prevent you from driving. Always be careful and stay healthy!
