South Hesse: Police check motorcyclists and monitor speed/Motorcyclist traveling at 101 mph on the B 45
On Sunday (May 8), officers from the South Hesse Police Headquarters Traffic Inspection Unit, with the support of expert colleagues from other Hesse police headquarters and officers from Baden-Württemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Bavaria, carried out traffic checks between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. with a focus on motorized two-wheelers in South Hesse. Checkpoints were set up in Rothenberg-Kortelshütte, in Lautertal, near Lindenfels, and in the „Kornsand“ area near Trebur.

In this context, speed measurements and mobile checks were also carried out by civilian motorcycles and patrol cars. 107 car drivers and over 250 motorcyclists were scrutinized by law enforcement officers.
A total of 51 administrative offense proceedings were initiated, 45 of which were against motorcyclists and five against car drivers. Speed monitoring revealed 25 violations. The inglorious leader at midday was a 65-year-old motorcyclist on Federal Highway 45 near Bad König. He was traveling at 163 kilometers per hour on a road where the speed limit is 100 km/h.
He now faces a fine of €600, two points in Flensburg, and a two-month driving ban. The fastest driver was 46 km/h over the speed limit. A total of 20 motorcyclists failed to comply with the weekend road closures for motorcyclists on Krähberg and the state road between Beerfelden and Sensbachtal in the Odenwald district, as well as the former race track near Zotzenbach (Bergstraße district).
Four motorcycles were found to have insufficient tread depth on their rear tires, meaning that they were prohibited from continuing their journey. One motorcycle had a tread depth of just 0.3 mm. Several bikers were also prohibited from continuing their journey by the police due to inadequate helmets.
Furthermore, a total of six criminal proceedings were initiated. One biker now faces charges of license plate misuse. A 19-year-old motorcyclist from the Odenwald district faces criminal proceedings for driving under the influence of drugs and possession of narcotics. Two motorcyclists were also riding without the required driver's license and, in one case, without insurance.
Technical modifications were found on 29 motorcycles and one car. These modifications meant that the operating licenses had expired in 15 cases. In addition, 59 drivers must prove to the police that their vehicles are in proper condition in the next few days by presenting defect cards that have been issued.
Four motorcycles and a car were seized by the police due to serious tampering. Among other things, the motorcycle of a 41-year-old biker was confiscated by the police at Kornsand near Trebur because, at around 95 decibels, it was much louder than permitted (86 db). The motorcycle is now being examined by an expert.
