Data recording with Event Data Recorder before and after an accident
Contribution from ADAC: Airplanes have a black box from which events before and shortly after a crash can be read. A device like this is also used for cars: The so-called Event Data Recorder (EDR) records a short period of time before and after the crash in the event of an accident. Many vehicles are already equipped with an EDR; from July 7, 2024, the black box will be mandatory for all newly registered vehicles.
The ADAC gives an overview of what the EDR can do and what data protection looks like.
The purpose of EDR is to gain a better understanding of an accident through recorded data. The EDR is usually installed in the airbag control unit, as all relevant information from acceleration sensors comes together here - this information is also used to trigger the EDR's data recording.
Data such as speed, engine speed, steering angle and whether the airbag was triggered are recorded. The recording is triggered in a time window of five seconds before and 300 milliseconds after the crash.
The data is stored locally in the vehicle and remains there. With the help of certain tools, they can be read out via the ODB interface or directly on the airbag control unit. In terms of data protection law, ownership of the data from the EDR lies with the driver or owner. However, in order to find out how an accident occurred in connection with civil or criminal proceedings, a court or the public prosecutor's office can commission an expert to read the data from the EDR.
However, the data from the EDR should not be used as the only source for accident reconstruction. Rather, they serve as an additional element to the evidence at the scene of the accident and the damage to the vehicles involved. They can support traditional accident reconstruction, but not replace it. The EDR only saves data about your own vehicle and not about other road users. Video recordings are also not possible with it.
Special Edition from the “Last Call” series comes to Europe: Dodge Challenger Black Ghost
The Dodge brand's "Last Call" tribute in Europe offers fans the last chance to win a HEMI V8 engine in the Dodge Charger and Challenger.
Europe-wide market launch of the Challenger Black Ghost in an exclusive black chrome look, inspired by the historic edition from 1970.
The vehicles in the special series are created in limited editions as a unique opportunity for fans of the brand to secure an exclusive model of the iconic “Last Call” edition.
Rüsselsheim, May 2023 - Dodge's "Last Call" tribute to the HEMI models Charger and Challenger, which will no longer be produced in their current version from 2024 as part of the brand's electrification strategy, is now also making its way to Europe . To celebrate these historic series in the final months of their existence, the American brand is launching modified versions of seven icons. Fans have the unique opportunity to purchase an absolutely exclusive product. Five of these very special “Last Call” editions are also offered in Europe.
“There are so many legendary muscle cars in the history of the Dodge brand that it was difficult for us to select the seven models that we wanted to pay tribute to with our “Last Call” lineup. But the Black Ghost was an easy choice,” said Tim Kuniskis, Dodge brand chief executive officer.
The Dodge Challenger Black Ghost is now also landing in Europe
Godfrey Qualls was a motorcycle cop in Detroit, Michigan - and was passionate about illegal street racing. He gave this obviously problematic double life an almost mystical dimension with his modified Dodge Challenger R/T SE Black Ghost from 1970, because he repeatedly showed up in street races, drove the competition into the ground, and then immediately disappeared again disappear.
As a tribute to this legendary muscle car, the Dodge Challenger Black Ghost was among the first six “Last Call” Edition models unveiled in August 2022 during Dodge Speed Week at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Michigan. The 2023 Dodge Challenger Black Ghost special edition is a modern revival of the historic 1970 vehicle. It wraps a Challenger SRT ® Hellcat Redeye Widebody, which has been upgraded to 602 kW (807 hp), in a jet black look with black chrome trim and black alligator skin “Vinyl graphics on the roof similar to the original.
Also inspired by the legendary original are the 20 x 11-inch Satin Carbon Warp Speed wheels, Black Ghost badge on the instrument panel, black Mopar ® hood pins and black six-piston Brembo brake calipers. The Black Ghost also features a grille with Challenger lettering, fender and spoiler badges and an SRT grille badge in midnight chrome.
The model is also adorned with details such as the bright Dodge lettering on the dashboard, the Alcantara steering wheel with red SRT logo, real carbon fiber accents and the Dynamica suede headliner as well as Alcantara/Laguna leather seat and door covers. With this vehicle, fans can experience the true exclusivity of Dodge: Only 300 examples will go into production, all Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody in pitch black exterior color.
The Dodge “Last Call” special series – the final race of the HEMI Dodge Charger and Challenger
The exclusive “Last Call” edition consists of seven revived iconic models from the brand’s history: Dodge Challenger Shakedown, Charger Super Bee, Challenger and Charger Scat Pack Swinger, Charger King Daytona, Challenger Black Ghost and Challenger SRT Demon 170.
All 2023 model year vehicles are inspired by the brand's iconic muscle cars, adopting their key details and are marked with a "Last Call" badge under the hood, making each model a true collector's item and displaying the name and silhouette of the vehicle, as well as “Designed in Auburn Hills” and “Assembled in Brampton” to confirm the origin of each vehicle.
The two series each include 14 exterior colors, including three of the brand's signature heritage colors - B5 blue, Plum Crazy purple and Sublime green - as well as the popular, modern Destroyer gray. The vehicles were also refined with striking graphic details on the body.
To celebrate this special edition in true Dodge style, the brand has also expanded the Jailbreak package to the 535 kW (717 hp) Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcat, giving fans virtually unlimited customization options when building their own muscle car offer, with unique personalization of every single detail.
Dodge Europe has teamed up with its international contract partners to bring the Charger and Challenger into the hands of their fans through their official dealer network with full service and warranty packages.

Holidays without financial worries: Pawnshops and cash & drive models record high demand / Market leader Pfando publishes top 5 ranking
The season of Christmas shopping and wishes is just around the corner. For many people in Germany, money is particularly tight this year and the need for a few carefree holidays is even greater. Pawnshops and service providers such as Pfando are experiencing particularly high demand these weeks when customers want to put their financial worries on hold during the Christmas season.
Demand for the cash & drive model has almost doubled in two years
More and more people are using Pfando's cash & drive service: while there were just under 4,000 customers in 2018, it is estimated that there will be around 7,500 in 2020. Over a third regularly use the opportunity to bridge financial bottlenecks using the Cash & Drive model. 36% of customers are regular customers.
Top 5 ranking: cities with over a million inhabitants Hamburg, Berlin and Munich with the highest vehicle values
Especially in the cities of Berlin, Hamburg and Munich as well as Frankfurt, people receive the highest payouts on average
Vehicle: approx. 4,500 to 4,900 EUR per vehicle. However, the absolute leader is Munich with an average payout of around EUR 5,600. Pfando's top 5 ranking shows that vehicle values are significantly lower in eastern Germany and in socially and economically weak regions. With an average of around EUR 3,300, Erfurt has the least amount of cash for a car.
Market leader Pfando enables cash withdrawals while maintaining personal mobility
Anyone can get into financial difficulties at some point, and many people often need additional financial flexibility, especially before the holidays. Compared to a conventional vehicle pawnshop, with a cash & drive model like Pfando, the customer remains mobile and can continue to drive their vehicle.
“When house banks and credit institutions no longer help with unexpected liquidity bottlenecks, we are often the last resort for our customers to get cash quickly and easily. Especially now during the Christmas season.” says Tobias Renkel, Managing Director of Pfando's cash & drive GmbH. At the same time emphasized
he: “The prerequisite is that our customers are transparently informed about all steps before the contract is concluded.” At Pfando, this is ensured by a strong branch network and specially trained employees at 25 locations in Germany.
Thanks to their uncomplicated processes, car pawnshops are increasingly being preferred
Thanks to the transparent processes, the proportion of regular customers is increasing, emphasizes the managing director of Pfando: “This is the only way we have managed to ensure that our service is used regularly by over a third of our customers and that we are now a real alternative to a loan from the house bank.”
Purely electric Ford Mustang Mach-E: Lots of power, style and the feeling of freedom for a new generation of drivers
For the first time in the 55-year history of the Ford Mustang success, a battery-electric, locally emission-free variant complements the model family of the legendary “pony car”.
The Mustang Mach-E with space for five adults joins the Mustang Fastback coupe and convertible convertible as well as the special editions - planned market launch: late 2020
The all-electric Mustang Mach-E heralds a new era and is one of 14 electrified vehicles that Ford will bring to the European market by the end of 2020
The Mustang Mach-E takes the spirit of the sports car legend into the future with muscular shapes, fascinating performance and impressive handling
Mustang Mach-E GT: With 342 kW (465 hp), 830 Nm of torque and an acceleration of under five seconds to 100 km / h, this car, which is expected to come onto the market in early 2021, lives up to its name
Range of up to 600 kilometers according to the WLTP standard
Integrated charging solutions for refueling at your home socket or at one of over 125,000 charging stations in the FordPass Charging network in 21 European countries
The Ford Mustang has been electrifying fans around the world for 55 years. Now the famous “pony car” is ready for the electrified future: With the new Ford Mustang Mach-E, the company is today presenting a purely electrically powered crossover-style model variant for the first time.
It is characterized by the same longing for freedom, progress and outstanding driving performance as the legendary sports car that came onto the market in 1964. The 4.71 meter long, 1.88 meter wide and 1.60 meter high Ford Mustang Mach-E transforms these ideals to a new level and combines them with greater space to meet customers' increased demands. The market launch in Germany is planned for the end of 2020.
“At the very first auto show in Detroit, Henry Ford once announced that he was working on something that would strike like lightning - back then it was the Model T,” explains Bill Ford, chairman of the board of Ford Motor Company and great-grandson of the automobile pioneer .
“Today we introduce a vehicle that will strike like lightning again: the new, all-electric Mustang Mach-E. It’s fast, it’s fun and it once again represents a special sense of freedom for a new generation of Mustang buyers.”
Modern battery technology with easy charging options
Ford offers the Mustang Mach-E with two battery options, with rear or all-wheel drive and in different performance levels:
The standard battery has 288 lithium-ion cells and a storage capacity of 75 kilowatt hours (kWh) - that's enough for a WLTP range of up to 450 kilometers.
The optional extended range battery with 99 kWh and 376 cells enables an even greater range: the rear-wheel drive model can cover up to 600 kilometers with a full battery according to the WLTP cycle1 before it needs to be recharged.
Including all-wheel drive (dual electric motor) and the larger battery, the Mustang Mach-E is expected to provide 248 kW (338 hp) and a maximum torque of 581 Newton meters (Nm). There will also be a special performance variant - expected from the beginning of 2021: The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT combines 342 kW (465 hp) with around 830 Nm and accelerates to 100 km/h in under five seconds.
The batteries are located between the axles in the vehicle floor to save space. This lowers the center of gravity of the Ford Mustang Mach-E and has a positive effect on the driving dynamics of the electric car. A waterproof and shockproof battery box protects it from moisture and external damage.
At the same time, an active liquid cooling and heating system ensures a balanced heat balance even in extreme weather such as minus temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius below zero.
Experience shows that four out of five electric vehicle owners charge their car at home. In the future, Ford will offer you a particularly practical solution with the Ford Connected Wallbox, which will reduce the charging process to just 20 percent of the time compared to a conventional 230-volt household socket.
For the Ford Mustang Mach-E with the extended range battery and rear-wheel drive, for example, enough electrical energy flows for a further 62 kilometers2 within an hour. A corresponding charging cable is part of the vehicle's standard equipment.
“The new Mustang Mach-E is one of the most exciting vehicles Ford has ever introduced,” said Stuart Rowley, President of Ford Europe. “It is unique, but clearly a real Mustang. It comes at exactly the right time for our customers in Europe.”
Performance that gives new meaning to the term “electrifying”.
Ford offers the new Mustang Mach-E with three driving programs that can be individually adjusted. By changing the driving mode, elements such as the ambient lighting, the settings of the infotainment system and the drive noise (authentically composed sound effects) can be influenced.
The rear-wheel drive Ford Mustang Mach-E already impresses with its impressive temperament and sporty handling. In conjunction with the newly developed all-wheel drive (AWD) - controlled by a permanent dual electric motor - the driving pleasure in the Ford Mustang Mach-E AWD reaches an even higher level, as it regulates the torque distribution on the front and rear axles completely independently of each other .
This leads to excellent traction, ensures extremely agile acceleration and further improves self-steering behavior. At the same time, a newly developed Brembo brake system is also available. It combines the advantages of conventional brake calipers with the compact dimensions of floating brake calipers.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT will also have the adaptive MagneRide high-performance chassis, which offers an even greater spread between sporty driving style and suspension comfort.
“Whether the focus is on the truly impressive performance or the quiet comfort experience that electric vehicles naturally offer, the new Mustang Mach-E transforms the advantages of its zero-emission drive into a unique driving experience and combines this with the characteristic feeling of freedom, “This series stands for,” said Ted Cannis, Global Director Electrified Vehicles at Ford Motor Company.
15.5-inch touchscreen and Ford SYNC 4: Seamlessly connected connectivity technologies
New in the segment and for the first time in a Ford vehicle are the digital 10.2-inch instrument panel (26 cm screen diagonal) and the 15.5-inch touchscreen (39 cm screen diagonal), which operates like a smartphone via swipe and Swipe movements are easy to use and complicated menu navigation is unnecessary.
In addition: SYNC 4, the next, fourth generation of the Ford SYNC communications and entertainment system, is celebrating its debut in the new Ford Mustang Mach-E. It has twice the computer speed of the current SYNC 3 system - correspondingly faster access to navigation, music and connectivity functions.
Its clear and modern user interface is capable of learning and can therefore quickly adapt to the driver's specific preferences. Updates can be installed wirelessly via secure data transfer - this way the Ford SYNC 4 system gets better and better over time.
Also worth mentioning: cloud-based connectivity that enables seamless media use when getting in and out. Compatible smartphones and other devices can now be integrated wirelessly via Apple CarPlay3, Android Auto3 and Ford AppLink. The voice recognition understands the driver's commands from the conversation.
“The next generation of Ford SYNC system actively adapts to you the moment you use it for the first time, quickly learning your preferences and making personalized suggestions,” says Darren Palmer, Ford global director of battery development. electric vehicles.
“If it knows that Monday is ideal for your workout, it will suggest a trip to the gym, or automatically prepare the call home if you always check in with your family on the way home from work.
All in all, this results in a cloud-based assistant with an intuitive, beautifully designed user interface that remains technologically up-to-date because it receives its updates wirelessly via data transfer.”
A completely new approach to the classic Mustang experience
The Ford Mustang Mach-E is based on a vehicle architecture that Ford has completely redeveloped for purely electric automobiles. It allows the batteries to be placed in the floor pan to save space.
In this way, it offers designers and engineers special freedom to combine the typical appearance of the sports car legend with a large interior in which five people and their luggage feel comfortable.
“The advanced battery technology was crucial for a Mustang Mach-E that is as spacious as it is practical with a wonderful silhouette, which can also offer the driving pleasure that our European customers place particular value on,” emphasizes Ulrich Kösters, Director of Electrified Vehicles Ford Europe.
Thanks to characteristic design elements such as the long and powerfully designed front hood and the typical rear section with the three-part taillights, the family affiliation of the new Ford Mustang Mach-E is clear at first glance.
At the same time, the intelligent room layout ensures that the new model offers a convincing amount of space for those sitting in the back and a remarkably large luggage compartment.
Probably the biggest surprise for Mustang fans is hidden under the front hood: a 100-liter front trunk that can easily fit a small suitcase.
Since it has a water drain valve, like the MegaBox in the new Ford Puma, it is easy to clean and is therefore particularly suitable for dirty sports clothing, muddy hiking boots or wet beach equipment.
The interior of the new Mustang Mach-E: flowing, light shapes, easy operation
A purely electric drive also has an advantageous effect on the space inside the vehicle. Ford engineers intensively questioned customers about how this newly gained space should best be used.
The result is a vehicle that allows five adults to stay comfortably on board, but at the same time offers enough space for luggage: In addition to the compartment under the front hood, there is a further 402 liters of storage space in the trunk. If the rear seats are folded forward, the cargo space volume increases to up to 1,420 liters - more than enough for a longer trip, camping accessories or other things that need to be transported from A to B4.
At the same time, the interior presents itself with a successful mix of slim design and well-thought-out functionality. The speakers of the optional B&O3 Sound System fit seamlessly into the dashboard and float above the air vents like a soundbar.
The fold-up center armrest also appears to float between the front seats and stores wallets just as safely as smaller bags. The panoramic roof, which is available on request, also has a special secret: thanks to a special coating on the glass, it keeps out infrared and ultraviolet radiation. This ensures a cooler passenger compartment in summer and warmer in cold winter.
No conventional door handles
Also new and particularly practical is the “smartphone as key” technology5, which Ford is introducing into its model range for the first time on board the Mustang Mach-E. The car does not have conventional door handles. If the vehicle detects via Bluetooth that the driver's authorized mobile device is approaching, it unlocks the doors.
Even to start the vehicle, you don't need to pick up your smartphone or a key. If the battery of the electronic device is empty, the Ford Mustang Mach-E can be opened using a secret number on a keypad at the level of the B-pillar. And with a separate PIN code that is entered on the central touchscreen, the car is ready to drive.
Access to over 125,000 charging points
Far from home, the connected navigation system of the Ford Mustang Mach-E points out current charging options along the route, thereby taking the wind out of the sails of worries about an empty battery. The FordPass Connect onboard modem5 and the FordPass app provide access to the FordPass Charging charging network in collaboration with NewMotion.
With currently over 125,000 public charging points in 21 European countries, it is one of the largest and fastest growing of its kind. Particularly practical: “tank” billing is carried out in a user-friendly manner via a single customer account5.
In addition, the 400 fast charging stations (HPC) with their almost 2,400 charging points are also available, which the IONITY consortium - of which Ford is one of the founding members and partners - will be installed along European trunk roads by the end of 2020.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E can use a charging power of up to 150 kW at IONITY and other HPC charging points, thereby significantly reducing charging times. For the driver of a rear-wheel-drive Ford Mustang Mach-E with an extended range battery, this means that he can fill up with enough energy for up to 93 additional kilometers2 within ten minutes. The model with a standard battery (75 kWh) takes less than 40 minutes to increase the power supply from ten to 80 percent2.
“With the new Mustang Mach-E, a new era begins for Ford. 5 stars: Ford Explorer plug-in hybrid receives maximum Euro NCAP rating
Independent testing organization praises innovative components that protect both the occupants and the plug-in hybrid battery
Extremely robust safety cell thanks to the “3D Roll and Sweep” process
Ford Explorer plug-in hybrid enables a purely electric range of up to 48 kilometers
The new top SUV model from Ford, which is already available to order, is one of 14 electrified models that Ford will bring to market in Europe by the end of 2020
The new Ford Explorer Plug-In Hybrid is the first electrified Ford series in Europe to be tested according to the new, strict Euro NCAP test procedure - and has now received the maximum rating of five stars.
More precisely: the independent Euro NCAP organization rated the protection of adult vehicle occupants at 87 percent, there was a rating of 86 percent for child occupant protection, the driver assistance systems were rated at 76 percent and there was a rating of 61 percent for pedestrian protection - each Top marks.
The high level of safety for drivers, passengers and external road users is ensured by, among other things, ultra-high-strength steel components that were developed based on Ford-patented processes, as well as sensor-based technologies that can prevent or at least mitigate collisions.
Robust and ultra-modern
An automotive-first manufacturing process called “3D Roll and Sweep” allowed Ford to integrate ultra-high-strength steel beams into the vehicle's A-pillars and roof, creating a highly robust safety cell.
The steel, hardened so that mounting holes must be laser-cut, is rolled into tubes. Thanks to the “3D roll and sweep” process, the pipes in question achieve a tensile strength of 1,700 megapascals - making them proportionally stronger than the main cables of the famous Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
Using a process patented by Ford, ultra-high-strength steel components are installed in the vehicle floor to provide additional protection for the occupants and the 13.6 kWh lithium-ion battery.
The improved strength and rigidity helped the Ford Explorer plug-in hybrid achieve maximum points in side impact protection.
Modern driver assistance systems such as the pre-collision assist including collision warning system with cyclist detection, the lane keeping assistant and the intelligent adaptive cruise control system (iACC) also contributed to the 5-star rating of the ultra-modern SUV.
The Euro NCAP test report also shows that the standard emergency braking system (Pre Collision Assist) performed excellently, especially at the low speeds typical of city driving, at which many whiplash injuries can occur, with collisions being avoided or mitigated in every test scenario.
In addition, the so-called Reverse Brake Assist technology is being introduced in Europe for the first time. Radar and ultrasonic sensors are used to detect objects behind the vehicle that are more than 28 cm high and 7.5 cm wide.
If necessary, if the person behind the wheel does not respond to warning signals, the brakes will automatically activate to avoid an imminent collision when the vehicle is reversing at speeds between 1.5 km/h and 12 km/h.
Reverse Brake Assist brings the vehicle to a standstill for 1.5 seconds before the system returns full control to the driver. A 360-degree camera with “Split View” technology is also standard equipment.
The new Ford Explorer Plug-in Hybrid features an exceptionally spacious and comfortable interior with advanced features. These include the 12.3-inch digital display in the instrument panel as well as the voice-controlled communication and entertainment system Ford SYNC 3 with AppLink.
System performance of the Ford Explorer plug-in hybrid: 336 kW (457 hp)
The 5.05 meter long, 2.28 meter wide and 1.78 meter high new top model of Ford's European SUV family impresses with advanced plug-in hybrid technology, seven seats, luxurious standard equipment, a modern 10- Gear automatic transmission, Ford Intelligent Drive Assist (partially automated driving assistance) and numerous driver assistance systems.
The new, sixth generation of America's best-selling SUV can now only be ordered in Germany with a plug-in hybrid drive and initially in the “ST-Line” equipment version. Sales price: from 74,000 euros. The market launch is planned for March 2020. Another equipment version will be added at a later date.
The combination of the 3.0 liter Ford EcoBoost V6 petrol engine and an electric motor culminates in a system output of 336 kW (457 hp) and a maximum torque of 825 Newton meters (Nm).
The top speed of the Ford Explorer is 230 km/h, and acceleration from standstill to 100 km/h can be completed in 6.0 seconds if necessary. This performance does not come at the expense of consumption:
Classified according to Euro 6d-TEMP EVAP ISC, the new Ford Explorer EcoBoost plug-in hybrid achieves a combined consumption of 2.9 liters/100 km* with CO2 emissions* of 66 g/km*.
The EcoBoost plug-in hybrid drive delivers a purely electric range of 48 kilometers. This means that the new Ford Explorer runs locally emission-free in inner cities, for example.
“With 14 new electrified models launching in Europe before the end of next year, and given that we expect more than half of our passenger car sales to be electrified vehicles by the end of 2022, Ford customers can be sure:
We will continue to deliver the best possible safety – for all drive variants,” says Jörg Beyer, Executive Director, Product Development, Ford of Europe.
* Fuel consumption of the Ford Explorer Plug-in Hybrid in l/100 km: 2.9 (combined); CO2 emissions (combined): 66 g/km**. CO2 efficiency class: A+.
** The values stated were determined according to the prescribed measurement procedure (§ 2 Nos. 5, 6, 6a Pkw-EnVKV in the currently applicable version).
