The cause of the fire at the Top Mountain Crosspoint Museum has been determined
After the devastating fire in the Top Mountain Crosspoint Museum in Hochgurgl, the cause of the fire has now been clarified.
The fire investigators were able to identify the cause as a defective presentation monitor. It's unbelievable, but the monitor in the exhibition area caused the major fire due to a technical defect, as was announced on Wednesday afternoon. It was also mentioned that there was no evidence of intentional arson.
The fire brigades showed an extremely strong performance under these extremely difficult conditions; under these difficult conditions they were able to save parts of the ski lift to the east and the restaurant.
Even getting to the internationally popular museum is not easy due to the very winding driveway. Although the route is very popular with motorcyclists, it is not exactly ideal for large fire service vehicles.
The museum was largely made of wood, which made extinguishing the fire even more difficult. Nevertheless, the emergency services managed to save part of the restaurant and the ski lift, as can be seen in the photos. Unfortunately, the big drama took place in the western part, where there were over 200 treasures. Many classic cars fell victim to the flames, and now the question naturally arises as to why higher levels of fire protection were not installed given these values. Because the building was only rebuilt in 2016. The good news is that no one was injured in the fire.

The fire report received international press attention
The report about the fire at the Timmelsjoch toll station in Hochgurgl caused a lot of waves in the scene. Not only is the economic damage enormous, but emotionally many hearts of fans of the historic classics were broken.

Information from the police about the fire
According to information from the Tyrol police, which was shared with Harleysite, the exact sequence of the fire was as follows:
On January 18, 2021, around 4:40 a.m., a fire broke out in a building in Hochgurgl. The FFW from the rear Ötztal are currently on duty to fight the fire.
On January 18, 2021, shortly before 4:40 a.m., an employee noticed heavy smoke in the “Top Mountain Motorcycle Museum Crosspoint” motorcycle museum in Obergurgl due to an acoustic alarm.
He tried to fight the fire with a fire extinguisher, but had to leave the building due to the heavy smoke and immediately made an emergency call. The Gurgl volunteer fire department immediately alerted the volunteer fire departments of Sölden, Vent, Huben, Längenfeld and Imst to fight the fire.
At around 6:00 a.m. the entire museum was already fully engulfed in flames. The amount of material damage cannot currently be estimated. No one has been injured to date.
The FFW from Gurgl, Vent, Sölden, Huben, Längenfeld, Imst, the district fire brigade commander and the district fire brigade inspector of Imst, the Sölden Red Cross, a police district fire investigator and the Sölden police were on duty with a total of around 100 people.
