(Neu-Isenburg) Nowhere else in Austria can you enjoy more hours of sunshine than in the south of Carinthia, where power relaxers feel just as comfortable as cyclists, hikers and water sports enthusiasts. But they all take a break at the beginning of September, because from September 4th to 9th half of Carinthia firmly in the hands of motorcycle fans. The reason is called European Bike Week and is considered a mecca for motor maniacs on two wheels. This year the Megafete at Lake Faaker See for the 21st time and once again bikers from Europe, Africa and America will flock to Carinthia to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and the cool party atmosphere.
Anyone who is not exploring the rugged mountains of the Julian or Gailtal Alps and the Karawanks on their own or on a guided tour can relax by the lake, where one party location follows the next. The focus of the action is Faak, where the Harley Village tent city covers an area of 40,000 square meters. Here you can Harley-Davidson - for example in the Expo, where the models for the coming season are traditionally exhibited, and in the Demo Ride Area at the intersection of Bahnhofstrasse and Seeufer Landesstrasse, where around 70 machines are available for free test rides. In the western area of the village, Jeep also offers its four-wheel drive vehicles for test drives.
Of course, seeing and being seen as well as shopping are also popular in the Village: around 20 authorized Harley-Davidson dealers will be on site and, together with countless independent traders, will ensure an offer that leaves nothing to be desired. More than 30 caterers will be on hand to provide food and drink. To talk about petrol at the counter, you meet in the “Red Bull” or the “Bacardi” bar in the customizer area. HOG members will also find an event area specially set up for them in the HOG Zone. In the afternoon, the “Vida Loca” bar on the Main Plaza ensures a good mood before the program starts on the main stage. 18 bands are rocking the main stage this year. The top acts include The Darkness, who will offer British glam rock at its finest on Friday, as well as the German high-flyers The New Roses and the Backyard Babies from Sweden, who will bring the atmosphere to a boil with hard, dirty rock 'n' roll on Saturday. The festival continues late into the night in two large festival tents. The “Team 412 Area” tent will be expanded in 2018 with a new large tent with a new catering and music concept.
The event highlights once again include the custom bike show on Friday, where ambitious autodidacts compete with internationally renowned professionals, and Europe's largest motorcycle parade on Saturday, where everything that has two wheels and one is represented, from Kreidler Florys to Milwaukee Irons engine has. And to top it all off, a Harley-Davidson will be raffled off among visitors on Saturday night.
