HARLEY DAVIDSON MAGAZINE “THE ENTHUSIAST” IS BACK

The classic magazine with a modern look will inspire motorcyclists and celebrate their attitude to life

MILWAUKEE (September 11, 2020) - Harley-Davidson is relaunching The Enthusiast as a print and digital magazine to showcase the motorcycling lifestyle from the Motor Company's perspective. Originally published by Harley-Davidson from 1916 to 2008, the magazine will replace HOG magazine as the Motor Company's official publication and will also be available through additional distribution channels.

“We are going back to our heritage,” explains Jochen Zeitz , President and Chief Executive Officer of Harley-Davidson, “and we believe that the title of 'The Enthusiast' is more relevant today than ever. In a year in which so many people have retreated into their own four walls, we believe we can motivate bikers to leave the sofa and rediscover the world from the saddle of a motorcycle while observing social distancing rules.”

The first issue of the new edition of The Enthusiast is released in the United States this week. The cover story follows actors Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, stars of the new Apple Original series Long Way Up, premiering Friday, September 18 on Apple TV+. The series chronicles the adventures that McGregor and Boorman experienced on their 20,900-kilometer journey on two Harley-Davidson LiveWire-E motorcycles through South America, Central America and Mexico.

The Enthusiast will be published four times a year with a print run of over 500,000 copies in the US and an additional 150,000 copies in international markets, making it the most widely distributed motorcycle magazine in the world. Since the magazine was first published in 1916, it is one of the oldest popular magazines for motorcyclists, along with “Motorrad” (1903, Germany), “Motociclismo” (1914, Italy) and “Motorcyclist” (1909, USA). .

From 1984 to 2008, the Motor Company published two separate magazines for Harley-Davidson bike owners, The Enthusiast and HOG Tales. In 2009, both were combined to form a new magazine with content inspired by both publications: the “HOG” magazine. With America's Motorcyclist transitioning to an all-digital format in 2018, The Enthusiast remains the oldest continuously printed motorcycle magazine in the United States, including the years under the HOG title.

All full and life members of the Harley Owners Group will of course continue to receive a free subscription to “The Enthusiast” magazine. A free app version is available for iOS and Android phones and tablets. Harley-Davidson is also working on other new sales channels for the USA. This includes sales via online channels and Harley-Davidson dealer bases.
