THE NEW HARLEY-DAVIDSON LOW RIDER S
Softail chassis and powerful Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine for purists
MILWAUKEE (08/20/2019) - High handlebars and a powerful punch - these features characterize the new Harley-Davidson Low Rider S - a machine where performance is the focus.
The Low Rider S features the Harley-Davidson Softail chassis, which has been equipped with high-quality chassis components tailored to dynamic riding.
Its powerful Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine fascinates with its impressive power delivery. Their design fuses the traditional Harley-Davidson look with modern coastal custom styling.
“The look of the new Low Rider S is rooted in the Low Rider models of the 1980s, whose fan base has long since spread from its origins in Southern California all over the world.
Influences of the 2016 Low Rider S
“In addition, of course, there are influences from the 2016 Low Rider S from the Dyna series,” explains Brad Richards, Harley-Davidson Vice President of Styling & Design.
“Now we've brought that coastal style and performance focus to the Softail chassis to create a new Low Rider S. It is stronger and more manageable than ever before – and at the same time the perfect bike for individualists.”
The “Hard Edge” Coastal Look
The high handlebars are one of the most striking style features of the Coastal Custom look. The Low Rider S has one-inch, off-road-style handlebars on straight, four-inch-high risers, which ensure an active riding position.
A headlight fairing that matches the color of the machine provides wind protection at higher speeds. The deeply shaped solo seat offers the driver secure support even during hard acceleration.
Instead of chrome, the sporty Low Rider S features numerous black surfaces. The engine, primary drive cover and tank console were finished in Wrinkle Black.
The clutch cover, the air filter and the lower rocker box covers are in Gloss Black, the exhaust system with its heat shields is in Jet Black and the fork with triple clamps, the riser including the handlebars and the rear mudguard brackets are coated in Matte Black.
A classic Harley-Davidson logo is emblazoned on the 18.9 liter tank. Radiate light alloy wheels in sizes 19 inches at the front and 16 inches at the rear with their Matte Dark Bronze a fascinating contrast to the dark add-on parts. The Low Rider S is available in the monochrome Vivid Black and Barracuda Silver finishes.
The Softail chassis
The stiff Harley-Davidson Softail frame forms an ideal basis for sporty driving characteristics. The frame construction is optimized for low weight without sacrificing torsional rigidity and at the same time offers a classic rigid frame look in harmony with contemporary suspension comfort.
The Milwaukee-Eight V-Twin is rigidly screwed into this chassis. The result: powerful acceleration, playful handling and maximum stability when braking. An emulsion shock absorber at the rear positioned at a favorable angle of attack between the frame and swing arm ensures first-class response with generous suspension travel.
Concealed under the seat, a hydraulic adjustment mechanism for the spring base allows comfortable adjustment to the load and road conditions.
A torsion-resistant upside-down fork with single cartridge technology and a 43 millimeter dip tube diameter provides front wheel guidance. Their construction guarantees stable straight-line stability and sensitive response.
In order to achieve greater agility, Harley-Davidson has reduced the steering head angle from 30 degrees on the basic Low Rider model to 28 degrees for the Low Rider S.
LOW RIDER S BRAKE PERFORMANCE
While the Low Rider is equipped with a single 300 millimeter brake disc on the front wheel, two brake discs with a diameter of 300 millimeters at the front end of the Low Rider S ensure powerful deceleration and reduced hand force on the brake lever.
Thanks to the standard ABS, first-class braking performance is guaranteed even in adverse road conditions. The Low Rider S runs on Michelin Scorcher 31 tires ex works.
The Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine
The Milwaukee-Eight 114 engine (114 cui, 1868 cm³ displacement) of the Low Rider S is the largest displacement engine available ex works for the Softail chassis. It delivers a powerful torque of 155 Nm at just 3,000 rpm.
Two balancer shafts reduce vibrations to the level desired by Harley fans. Four-valve cylinder heads and dual ignition ensure maximum efficiency and powerful performance. A fan air filter in Gloss Black with an exposed filter element offers the lowest possible resistance to the air flow in the intake tract.
The 2-into-2 exhaust system in shotgun style underlines the dynamic design.
Thanks to the extensive Harley-Davidson original accessories program, customers have the opportunity to adapt the Low Rider S to their own personal ideas for an individual bike.
