This year's motto is "back to the old ones."
This year's motto is "back to the old ones."
„Just be more old school when you're out and about again“ is the motto.“
Yes, why not? It's always fun, and if you've screwed your old boiler together properly and follow a few rules, nothing will fall off. Just a quick note: you shouldn't hold the steam cleaner directly on the iron, as the seals don't like that.
Harley-Davidson Evolution 1984-99
The development at Mobile.de is interesting: entry into the Evolution era starts at €6,500 with the Dyna Glide, and the first large EVO tourers start to appear at €9,200.
They have proven themselves over many years, and if you include the TwinCam, it is still a good and proven choice for long-distance riders, especially on large touring bikes.
You often hear that the EVO was Harley-Davidson's first stable engine, and there is some truth in that, but as with many other things in life, even the older engines are very reliable if they have been properly maintained, starting with a clean thread, otherwise it's no good.

Harley-Davidson Shovelhead 1966-84
If we take a look at the Shovelhead, the situation becomes a little more difficult. It starts at €7,500, but if we're honest, the budget should be somewhere around €15,000. And why not? If you take good care of your Shovel, it will last a long time and depreciation is no longer an issue.
As is still common today, changes and improvements are constantly being made to the engine during production. Engines from 1974 onwards are preferred, unless they have already been completely rebuilt.

Harley-Davidson Panhead 1948-65
But if you're looking for something a little more challenging, take a look at the Panhead category, where prices start at €12,000 and you'll find yourself back in 1958. The selection is very limited, and the 44 Panheads listed on the portal clearly show that they are a rarity.
It will be difficult to get started with a decent Panhead for less than €20,000, and like the Shovelhead, it can cost well over €30,000. But there are still bikers who take their old machines on long trips, like the Swiss guy we met on our tour in Norway.

Harley-Davidson Knucklehead 1936-47
But if you want to go all out and are looking for an investment, you'll be happy with Knucklehead, where you can invest your money and choose one of the seven options on offer.
But they're more suited to the showroom than for the big tour.
So, anyone who invests in a clean Panhead, Shovelhead, Evolution, or even TwinCam will enjoy it for a long time to come. In any case, we'll be riding our old bikes more this year and are already looking forward to it!
