TOP MOUNTAIN CROSSPOINT MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM
HARLEYSITE TOUR TIP FOR 2023
The Top Mountain Crosspoint Motorcycle Museum is not only the highest motorcycle museum in Europe, it also has its own history.
On January 18, 2021, a fire caused by a defective presentation monitor destroyed a large part of the motorcycle collection at the time and other extremely rare vehicles. The report caused a lot of excitement online. The Gurgl fire department kept us up to date the whole time, not a matter of course, you can read about the sad event in the following report.
The interview about the new Top Mountain Crosspoint Museum
The Top Mountain Crosspoint Motorcycle Museum is open again in 2022!
Who would have thought, I couldn't believe it, but Attila and Alban Scheiber actually managed it and rebuilt the museum and restaurant in a very short time.
It's even bigger and even more beautiful. An incredible 4500 square meters, filled with great classic vehicles, beautiful historic motorcycles from various brands, Attila was even able to find two Wanderer models somewhere.
In the interview that I did with him, he tells us how he managed to find so many models from different manufacturers in such a short time, although one can assume that we are talking about real originals, which he sourced from all over the world.
The new 4D cinema with motorcycle simulator
Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road on the 4D cinema motorcycle simulator
What's totally crazy is the new 4D cinema motorcycle simulator. If you want to drive the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road on the simulator, you really have to pull yourself together for the first few minutes not to press the panic button, it's a really crazy feeling. The rides on the five motorcycles are possible every 60 minutes. So you should serve at the crosspoint when there isn't too much going on.
A restaurant with over 400 seats
The restaurant with over 400 seats and a large outdoor terrace is also open again. A wide range of regional specialties and common dishes are offered here. There is also a pizza station, I am sure that no one will leave the Top Mountain Crosspoint hungry, the cuisine is very good.
Great tours can be combined with a visit to Hochgurgl.
In September I drove straight from the Prague Harley Days to Hochgurgl in Tyrol, spent a night in town and the next day looked at the motorcycle museum, which had been given a new lease of life, and conducted an interview with Attila Scheiber to get up to speed to bring a stand.
You have to drive the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road!
Immediately afterwards, I drove the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road, because the Motorcycle Museum is also the toll station for this legendary mountain pass that is very popular with motorcyclists. You have to drive it once, it's definitely worth it. Afterwards I drove directly to the Jaufenpass, which is already in the Italian South Tyrol and brought me closer to my next stage, the Dolomites Tour.
Stopover at Harley-Davidson in Bolzano
However, I first went to the Harley-Davidson dealer in Bolzano and originally wanted to go from there to the Dolomites. That didn't really work, after I went to the dealer, I drove on the country road towards the Dolomites. However, after I had already seen the first really impressive mountain, I was exhausted and no longer of any use. While cruising through the beautiful routes, I was so intoxicated that I got completely lost and ended up in Trento before actually heading back towards the Dolomites.
That was completely the wrong route, but I didn't see on the navigation system that he kept looking for a new route because I rushed past the actual junctions. Basically it wasn't really that bad, even the tour was great to ride.
Nevertheless, another dream route was discovered
The new plan was to go to Cortina d'Ampezzo to spend a night there. To do this, I drove from Tai di Cadore over another pass . That wasn't the plan because I had now landed in a storm with a heavy thunderstorm and it was pitch black, but in daylight the route via Vito di Cadore is certainly a pure experience .
Stopover in Cortina d'Ampezzo
The next day I drove from Cortina d'Ampezzo along the Dolomite Road towards Lake Faak, although I could also imagine spending two nights in the place to discover the area a little more. If you take a look at Google Maps, you will see that you are right in the middle of the South Tyrolean mountains. Feel free to plan an extra night in the town, if you want to go to Lake Faak, that's a nice tour for the next day!
