TOP MOUNTAIN CROSSPOINT MOTORCYCLE MUSEUM
HARLEYSITE TOUR TIP FOR 2023
The Top Mountain Crosspoint Motorcycle Museum is not only the highest motorcycle museum in Europe, it also has its own history.
On January 18, 2021, a fire caused by a defective presentation monitor destroyed a large part of the motorcycle collection at the time and other extremely rare vehicles. The report caused quite a stir online. The Gurgl fire department kept us up to date all the time, not a matter of course, you can read about the sad event in the following report.

Who would have thought it, I couldn't believe it, but Attila and Alban Scheiber actually managed to rebuild the museum and restaurant in a very short space of time.

It has become even bigger and even more beautiful. A fabulous 4500 square meters, filled with great classic vehicles, beautiful historic motorcycles of various brands, even two Wanderer models Attila was able to find somewhere.
In the interview I conducted with him, he tells us how he managed to get hold of so many models from different manufacturers in such a short time, whereby we can assume that we are talking about real originals that he procured from all over the world.
The new 4D cinema with motorcycle simulator

Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road on the 4D cinema motorcycle simulator
The new 4D cinema motorcycle simulator is something totally crazy. If you want to ride the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road on the simulator, you really have to pull yourself together for the first few minutes not to press the panic button, it's a really crazy feeling. Rides on the five motorcycles are possible every 60 minutes. So you should arrive at Crosspoint when it's not too busy.
A restaurant with over 400 seats
The restaurant with seating for over 400 people and a large outdoor terrace is also open again. A wide range of regional specialties and popular dishes are on offer here. There is also a pizza station, I am sure that no one will leave the Top Mountain Crosspoint hungry, the cuisine is very good.
Great tours can be combined with a visit to Hochgurgl.
In September, I drove straight from the Prague Harley Days to Hochgurgl in Tyrol, spent a night in the village and the next day I went to see the newly renovated motorcycle museum and interviewed Attila Scheiber to bring myself up to date.
You have to drive the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road!
Immediately afterwards, I drove the Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road, as the motorcycle museum is also the toll station for this legendary mountain pass, which is very popular with motorcyclists. You have to ride it once, it's definitely worth it. I then rode straight over the Jaufen Pass, which is already in South Tyrol in Italy and brought me closer to my next stage, the Dolomites Tour.
Stopover at Harley-Davidson in Bolzano
However, I first went to the Harley-Davidson dealer in Bolzano and originally wanted to ride from there to the Dolomites. That didn't really work out, so after I got to the dealer, I took the country road towards the Dolomites. However, after seeing the first really imposing mountain, I was completely blown away. While cruising through the beautiful roads, I was so intoxicated that I got completely lost and ended up in Trento before I really headed back in the direction of the Dolomites.
That was the completely wrong route, but I didn't see on the satnav that it kept looking for a new route because I was speeding past the actual turn-offs. But it wasn't really that bad, even the tour was great to drive.
Yet another dream route discovered
The new plan was to ride to Cortina d'Ampezzo to spend the night there. To do this, I drove from Tai di Cadore over another pass, which wasn't the plan because I'd landed in a storm with a heavy thunderstorm in the meantime and it was pitch black, but in daylight the route via Vito di Cadore is certainly a pure experience.
Stopover in Cortina d'Ampezzo
The next day I drove from Cortina d'Ampezzo along the Dolomite road towards Lake Faak, although I could also imagine spending two nights in the village to explore the area a little more. If you take a look at Google Maps, you will see that you are right in the middle of the South Tyrolean mountains. You should plan an extra night in the village, if you want to go to Lake Faak, it's a nice tour for the next day!
