Hanover-Südstadt: Two suspected motorcycle thieves arrested

On the night of Thursday, January 5th, 2023, to Friday, January 6th, 2023, initially unknown perpetrators stole two motorcycles from an underground car park in Hanover's southern part of the city. Late on Friday evening, civilian emergency services discovered two men loading the stolen motorcycles into a van. The two suspects were arrested and taken into custody.

According to current findings from the “Motor Vehicles” investigation group (EG) of the Central Criminal Investigation Department (ZKD) Hanover, the wife of the 50-year-old owner of the two Harley-Davidson motorcycles noticed on January 6th, 2023, at around 6:00 a.m. that they were obviously were stolen during the night. The owner had parked the two motorcycles, which cost around 30,000 euros, securely in an underground car park on Alte Döhrener Straße.

During the course of January 6, 2023, targeted searches were carried out in coordination with the locally responsible Hanover-Südstadt police commissioner, in which civilian patrols were also deployed. In the evening, around 10:45 p.m., two men were found loading two Harley-Davidsons into a van on the “An der Engesohde” street. The emergency services checked the 28-year-old and the 34-year-old and discovered that the two motorcycles were the machines that had been stolen the previous night. The suspects were temporarily arrested. Further demolition tools were also found in the transporter.
The ZKD is investigating the particularly serious case of theft. As part of the investigation, the suspected thieves were brought before the Hanover district court the following day. From there it was decided that immediate pre-trial detention would be ordered for both suspects. /ms, desch
