Börjes American Bikes presents revolutionary quality mappings for the Harley-Davidson Revolution Max engines
With the Revolution Max Motor , which is currently installed in the HD Pan America and HD Sportster S and the HD Nightster , Harley-Davidson has developed a high-performance engine with the most modern engine construction components and brought it to the road.
Pan America and Sportster S customers appreciate the powerful propulsion of the new engine. The propulsion and handling are contained and made disciplined and drivable by various driving modes.
The complexity of the components and the associated programming of the control devices appealed to the tuning team at Börjes American Bikes. They wanted to see whether improvements could be made through improved mapping. And in the winter of 2022/2023 they set about several days of work in the tuning center. The removal of standard limitations was part of the corrections carried out.
COLD START BEHAVIOR
When the engine is cold and the exhaust gas flow is relatively cold and the catalytic converter is below the classic operating temperature, the engine electronics rely on standard values stored in the control unit. This is necessary because the corresponding installed sensors do not yet provide reliable data when running cold. Our tuning team added relevant data in the range below 1200 rpm and improved the data for cold starts across the board.
RESULT:
Significant reduction in cold start speed from approx. 2,200 rpm to approx. 1,450 rpm, relative reduction in engine noise when running cold, significantly better cold start behavior and highly reliable starting behavior when the engine is cold. Reduction of engine wear during cold running
and consistent build-up of stable oil pressure. Less jerking at constant speed thanks to improved readjustment of the ECM.
CORRECTION OF GAS PROGRESSION
The series mapping has 5 different progressive throttle curves, depending on the driving mode.
Our tuning team took care of these different gas curves and synchronized each gear for an identical and more linear gradient in the gas curve for each driving mode. Furthermore, the limitation of the throttle valve angle and thus the sometimes significant reduction in power has been removed, depending on the mode and the gear selected.
RESULT:
A linear slope of the throttle curve accommodates the driver's natural feeling through a linear power development when the throttle grip is operated. Even in first gear, the Revolution Max motor has significantly more punch. This creates pure driving pleasure and a good feeling right from the start. When running cold and warming up, this also leads to a significant reduction in unwanted stalling of the engine when starting from a parking lot or at traffic lights.
After the mapping, the overall driving behavior is much more pleasant and powerful and just feels good. The usable speed range was expanded by up to 500 rpm through the readjustment. This saves switching operations and enables lazy driving.
CORRECTION AND IMPROVEMENT OF THE IGNITION CURVE
The ignition curves were adapted to the adjusted gas mixtures and the optimal ignition point was determined and set in each gear and load range.
RESULT:
Reduction in engine wear by reducing the knock rate and more power in all load ranges as well as a quiet, powerful engine run.
