Börjes American Bikes presents revolutionary quality mappings for Harley-Davidson Revolution Max engines

With the Revolution Max Motor, which is currently in the H-D Pan America and H-D Sportster S and the H-D Nightster Harley-Davidson has developed and launched a high-performance engine with state-of-the-art components. 

Pan America and Sportster S customers appreciate the powerful propulsion of the new engine. Propulsion and handling are controlled and disciplined by various riding modes, making the bike easy to ride. 

The complexity of the components and the associated programming of the control units appealed to the tuning team at Börjes American Bikes. They wanted to see whether improvements could be made through improved mapping. And in the winter of 2022/2023, they set to work for several days at the tuning center. Removing the standard limitations was one of the corrections they made. 

COLD START BEHAVIOR 

When the engine is cold and the exhaust gas flow is relatively cold, and the catalytic converter is below its normal operating temperature, the engine electronics fall back on standard values stored in the control unit. This is necessary because the sensors installed do not yet provide reliable data during cold running. Our tuning team added relevant data in the range below 1200 rpm and improved the data for cold starts across the board. 

RESULT: 

Significant reduction in cold start speed from approx. 2,200 rpm to approx. 1,450 rpm, relative reduction in engine noise during cold running, significantly improved cold start performance, and highly reliable start performance when the engine is cold. Reduction in engine wear during cold running. 

and consistent build-up of stable oil pressure. Less constant speed jerking thanks to improved ECM readjustment. 

CORRECTION OF GAS PROGRESSION 

The series mapping has 5 different progressive throttle curves, depending on the driving mode. 

Our tuning team addressed these different throttle curves and synchronized them for each driving mode for all gears to an identical and more linear slope in the throttle curve. Furthermore, the throttle angle limitation and the resulting significant reduction in performance were removed, depending on the mode and selected gear. 

RESULT: 

A linear throttle curve responds to the rider's natural instincts by delivering linear power when the throttle is applied. Even in first gear, the Revolution Max engine has significantly more punch. This creates pure riding pleasure and a great feeling right from the start. When cold and warm, this also leads to a significant reduction in unwanted stalling when starting from a parking space or at traffic lights. 

After mapping, the overall driving performance is much more pleasant and powerful and simply feels good. The usable speed range has been extended by up to 500 rpm thanks to the readjustment. This saves gear changes and allows for lazy driving. 

CORRECTION AND IMPROVEMENT OF THE IGNITION CURVE 

The ignition curves were adjusted to the modified gas mixtures, and the optimum ignition timing was determined and set for each gear and load range. 

RESULT: 

Reduction of engine wear by reducing the knock rate and increasing power in all load ranges, as well as smooth, powerful engine running.
